Horizons: 64 bit only; DX11 only

Thanks! I missed it.
And I think moving the game to 64bit is just a natural progression.

I'm glad. :)
Have some rep!

Thanks for this. I assume pre-orders for Horizons or lifetime pass purchases will be refunded for those on 32 bit windows. I am on 32 bit myself (my PC is 9 years old at this stage but it runs the game on ultra absolutely fine with a GTX 970 GPU) but I was planning to replace PC shortly anyway to run the Oculus rift when consumer version comes out. Have never managed to get such a long life out of a pc before, after 9 years it owes me absolutely nothing. Core 2 duo CPU with 4 gb ram, windows vista, and of course a recent GPU which will just transfer into my new build.

I don't have the lifetime pass and have not yet ordered Horizons anyway.

Refund was confirmed in stream by DBOBE - apparently 99 per cent of players have 64 bit.

That still gives us over 8000 PC users on WIN32. Admittedly not all will be going for season 2, but from what DB has said the season 1 release has its days numbered as a 32BIT version.

Aye, David Braben himself has said this (somewhere on the forum).

That there are very few people affected and it's unfortunate that anyone in this position can and will be given a refund for Horizons if wanted.

The march of technology etc...

Why is it unfortunate? I think it's proper and generous that they are issuing refunds.

Aye, I think the argument is that you require DX11 for Horizons anyway, and those with DX11 on Win32 are very very few, if any at all.

So in the end the recent change to a Win32 only requirement doesn't really affect much at all given the previous requirements excluded virtually all those users anyway.

That's true, but he also stated that Season 1 will still continue to support 32-bits after Horizons release. We don't know when 32-bits will be ditched altogether, but that's not December.

This is actually very good news. Its insignificant to us now but later down the road we will appreciate what they'll be able to squeeze into things later.

EDIT > > > deleted my original questioning post

DUH - I am DX11 already so my post was really stupid.

The post was to disseminate information, not to argue the toss for or against 64BIT.

I just don't want to see anyone raging next week because Horizons Beta won't install for lack of said information.

its not ideal, but if the alternative is to hold the game back and forgo certain key features then imo there is only 1 solution.....

To be honest this is only going to get worse for those still on 32 bit platforms. More and more games are going to be 64 bit only, and rightfully so imo. Anyone on windows 7 or 8 can transfer to 64bit windows 10 for free, anyone on XP or vista, really sorry guys but it is unfair to expect Frontier to support an OS so old that the guys who made the os themselves have stopped supporting it.

@ OP

good idea posting here incase someone missed it in the other thread.

DB stated "Season one will remain supported on 32 bit as well as 64 bit, until sometime next year at least."

Which means sometime during 2016 all releases of E D will be 64BIT only.

I'll admit I was stunned to see it in 32bit when I purchased the game.
