News Horizons Beta progress

Interesting to see how the Wave Scanner works, as it was detecting his landed Vulture. The one thing I thought was odd was that it was shown as a wide/large contact while some distance away, but became narrower as he got closer. I'd have expected it to be the other way around.

ok i have a question that im just assuming isnt going to be a probelm and i do not know if anyone has asked this yet so please bare with me.
I use a flight stick to fly and im wondering if when i land and deploy srv will i be able to then switch to my xbox 360 controlled to drive around in the SRV?

The SRV controls are separate to flight controls, so you should be able to map them in this way, yes. You'll have to make sure you have both your HOTAS and X360 controller plugged in every time you start the game or it might mess up your bindings.

Has there been any suggestion of a surface starting point in Horizons? i.e. when someone starts the game for the very first time, that they might start on a planet instead of in a station (as currently).

I think that'd be quite cool. Start in a Scarab in some enclosed area, then drive up to and board your Sidewinder. Take off, and fly up out of that world and up to your first space station.

It's a bit late for most of us (unless we wipe our saves) but it'd be a very cool intro to the game.

Great video :) We have patience. We can wait till beta is ready. I wonder when they will show a transition from SC to orbital cruise and then land. drive do a mission. And then drive the SRV back to the ship and take of and dock at a starport. Is this possible to do or will it need beta testing?

I feel its gonna be on friday again :(

Also, while the footage is awesome, i must say i don't like, that despite the fact, that there is no atmosphere, you can hear sounds of the spaceport/settlement/structure. That really broke the immersion for me. And i hope it's something that can be removed.

Sound travels through solide material as well, and a simple amplifier could be used to allow you to hear

Or be able to deploy your scarab when on the orbital space station landing pad and drive around the interior of the station.

Hi David,

THX for all the hard work of you and the team.

One short question, I`m one of those plaqued with constant black screens in hyperjump, I`ve read your comments why you had to switch to 64 bit. Does this mean, I`ll probably have to wait for Horizons to being able to play again?

Look at the news letter, it says on there that Horizons is ONLY for 64 bit systems till full release

Thanks for the good work! I'm really looking forward to this! No worries about the delay.

I'm terribly sorry to say this, Mr. Braben, but you drive like a maniac! :D

OK, now I see why the extra screen was removed in the 1.5 Beta - it has become a floating hologram in the same vain as all the other cockpit displays. I guess that makes a lot of sense and will provide much more UI flexibility moving forward.

I do like the way the team have 'worked around' the issue of entering/exiting the ship in the SRV. I've been a bit fearful of there being a canned SC style animation of you moving over to and climbing into the buggy (maybe accompanied by you pulling a thumbs up or flipping your helmet as you do so - nope, that won't get old after the 7 thousandth time of seeing it ;) ), but the quick fade seen in this video appears to be a sensible placeholder until we have player avatars and 'walking around' enabled within the game. I do like the way the SRV folds out as it exits the ship. The more I see of the SRV the more I'm put in mind of a small scientific submersible or even the pods from 2001. This is vehicle designed first and foremost with its function in mind, and the fact that it then looks cool as a result is just a bonus!
