I've been following the UA threads for a loooong time, but never had anything to contribute. I think I'll head to Merope and crash..I mean land on one of the moons, try to find something. The more the merrier, right? (Little fun fact, fun for me at least: At GamesCom I said to Kerrash "So, about the Unknown Artefacts." and he immediately burst out laughing.)

Help? We will need all the help we can get. Referring to the first post in this thread: Merope 1 has a surface area slightly larger than France. It will take a lot of Manpower and hours to scour that rock alone and there are 16? of them (I may mix up the numbers).
Now, I do not know how efficient we'll be doing low Level flight across the planet, perhaps there are scanners and game mechanics that make this a trivial affair.
I also have a Federal Assault ship using it as an "Explorer", With some extra fueltanks it's pretty decent for 150 LY stretches without scooping and refuelling even when each jump is around 17 LY or less. And it is quite allright in a fight as well

Once I am done racing around like a lunatic in a buggy I will come and visit you all. I have never been to Merope and this looks like a good time for a visit. I am also keen to help out in the search, even if we are just mapping the planets for now.
Is it OK for people who aren't planning on being full members of the Cannon to join your website? I am a member of a couple of other groups already and it's more appropriate for me to be an affiliate as it were rather then a full member, if that is even a meaningful distinction. Provided my PC still works for the official Horizons release (not doing the Beta) I will be heading to Merope's various system bodies, mostly out of curiosity.
My theory and I'm not sure that this has been covered here, or in the Canonn, is that Merope is not filled with cloaked Thargoids and the star is simply the relay hub for the recon probes (the UAs). They all point to the star, not a planet and the Thargoids could be using the star's energy to bump the signal to their inter-dimensional location. But that doesn't preclude that they could have a forward base there. That's why I want to go.
I do think that putting a station near Merope (Obsidian Orbital) may provoke a reaction and bring them out of hiding. Here's hoping!

Just had a rather weird thought about what might happen once Horizons (Beta or Live) hits. Everyone turns up in Merope and tries to land on the moons there, but.... "Landing on this body requires permit (unknown permit type)"...
Well, it's not long now... we'll soon find out....

I still dont believe the thargoids are going to be any threat to us, given the rate of technological progress we've seen in the life time of Elite, Elite 2 and now ED.
What we should be more scared of is what comes after the thargoids and in turn... after us.
