Lol you're in trouble now..

Yeah! He's gonna get fired over that... owh wait :)

All kidding aside: Mr. Braben, I must say: It requires a special kind of person to come in here and basically 'fess up to the crowd that it's going to be a week later and then to proceed with answers and some insights. Awesome Sir, really awesome!

Following up on my previous post, the team are still working very hard indeed. We are not ready to go live with the beta today as we have already indicated was likely. We are very sorry about this, but it is not yet ready for a proper beta test because of some blocking issues. I will keep everyone posted over the next few days, and will check in on this thread from time to time for the next hour today, and will post more details here on those issues for those that are interested. We are confident in the Monday 30th date as we already have the key components to fix the issues we are seeing.

Once again, we are very sorry, and we thank you all for your support.

RIGHT ON CMDR!

David

( crying loudly and trying to understand but is struggling to do that )
It's the thaaaaaargoiiiids David .... They're maaaad at youuuu because you aren't revealing news about them ( I must be losing my mind because of the 6 days delay :( )
At least do some horizons streaming to feed our thirst for it pleaaaase :(
( continued crying loudly )

The transition from supercruise to orbital cruise is seamless - you just see the altimeter and flight ladder appear. When you drop from orbital cruise to normal flight there is a short transition, as with dropping from supercruise.

Hi David, thanks for the updates.

Quick question from me: Can you please let us know the reason for that short transition? I foresee it will be the reason of potential complaining no end, given the community perception that all would be seamless. Is that transition due to networking code disconnecting orbital cruise contacts and creating the new ones at surface/normal flight level? (much like supercruise to normal flight does today?), other reasons?

Thanks for beeing that open about how things are going!
It's very much apreciated (Have some rep, CMDR Braben ;) )
Following the development of this unique game is very interesting and one of the reasons I finally got my Lifetime Expansion Pass!
Right on!

Thank you for keeping us posted.

Can't speak for anyone else but I know I'll be most please to test the result of your hard work no matter how long it will take your team to complete it.
Now, if only I could ship some good wine and cheese from France to help your team to relax a little bit and avoid the burn out. :D

Well, I'm not going to sugar-coat: that really sucks, and pretty much ruins the plans I had for this holiday weekend. I think a lot of us were looking forward to spending this long weekend testing the new content.

I think it would be helpful from a customer standpoint to better understand what kind of specific issues are holding up the release. Critical functional or stability issues are entirely valid reasons to repeatedly slip a date like this, but if it's just texture streaming or other cosmetic stuff, that's the kind of thing the beta is for.

Thank you for letting us know and I look forward to when ever the beta actually comes out. I will admit though that I'm a bit miffed that this so quickly slid from a slight delay to what is basically a full week delay. Personally in the future I'd rather not be told a date untill the servers are going up IMO.

Forgive me for being silly, but the very PURPOSE of a beta is to find bugs, and the fact that it is a beta denotes that there will be bugs. How can you have a polished beta? That just doesn't make sense. These days the whole beta seems more like early access, with all this 'it's not finished yet' OF COURSE IT ISN'T FINISHED, because it's a BETA.

Oh yes, as everyone says "take as long as you want." It's not as if we paid money for this beta access, is it.

I know everyone likes to have a happy-happy community spirit here; but I just want to put down that a few of us do actually realise there is a business deal going on here: we give FD money; they give us a product. I can accept a few days delays; but not the whole thanking them for that, and this essentially encouraging them to take as long as they want. No.

I paid for Beta access and I'm fine with this. If it only needed a one week beta I'd be fine with that too. Yes.

Thanks for the update.
Though I understand the reasons, the delay makes me sad. I will leave on a week long business trip on the 30th and will have no chance to test the new features during this trip.
I wish all the other beta testers a lot of fun during this time, while I will study the change logs and your reports from abroad.

Better to get it right first time I reckon! (Other game devs take note!) All the best to you and the hard working team! We'll be waiting for you to finish!

Very interesting, thanks; I expected the transition to be between supercruise and orbital cruise. If it's between orbital cruise and normal flight, it means pilots supercruising around a system, plus those buzzing around planets in orbital cruise will all be in one instance, while those down in normal flight and on the surface will be in another.

On the plus side, it means you can zoom right up to a planet and orbit it really close and fast without any transitions, that's very nice!

It has already been taken, prior to 1.5.

1.5 Beta and 2.0 Beta will be playing in the same worlds - though we want to encourage 2.0 people to restart (don't worry - it won't affect your main game save), as we have a new on-the-surface start position.

(Oops - I think I just made an announcement...! :) )

I'm up for that! Very exciting :)

Imperial Entitlement, commanders!

Frontier heard that my PC and HOTAS are broken. So they delayed the Beta release until my rig comes back from being fixed - just so I'm not feeling left out.

It only seems right, I am the Empire after all. Can't have me left out! Imperial Entitlement at its finest ;)

If you read on the thread, you will find the answer to your question. Alternatively, click Elite icon on David's post to go to his next post - he's specified what issues delayed the release in this thread :)

i was happy if you tel us that you give us (horizon beta tester) an extra 1.5 acces ....but ... i think i paid for beta for nothing ...but i understand your problems david ... but ... you maybe should give us something to compensate ?
