Is combat rank broken?

I have been "Dangerous" for about 2 months now, been smashing ships left right and centre and usually I only engage ships of equal or better rank. Now I got to 60% pretty quickly, but for the last month at least, no matter what I kill or in what frequency, my combat rank never seems to go up. In 2 months, it has gone up to 68%. While I appreciate that that is an increase from 2 months ago, when the majority of my time is spent (around 3-4 hours a night because I have no life) killing things, is this really the rate at which the rank should go up?

I also know that the ranking slows down considerably as you get higher, with more bounty value required and also that there is a multiplication factor added depending on the rank of the victim. So in short, is this the same for everybody and so I just need to man up and keeping pwning things?

did you swap ships?

i think the ship size weights allot in gaining combat rank. so you get more by killing a conda in a eagle than in a FAS.

I was not aware of that! That could explain it, I was using a Vulture and then I swapped to a Python before a Conda and then back to a FDL. Nice one thanks, I may go and rebuy the Vulture to see if this is the case.

I would recommend combat at a compromised nav beacon. That's how I ranked up to elite status. Most ships there are high ranked.

I was under the impression that it's simply the rank of the target ship that matters. Just reached Elite and this is how I managed to go up 2% per night for the last 50% after sitting for months around the first 50%.

I have the latest list and I was planning on having a go at that later on or maybe this weekend. Thanks for the heads up.

That's what I thought, but I am happy to try a smaller ship and see if that makes a difference. I will try it and report back in a day or three.

Its been said that that is not a factor and you only need to worry about the combat rating, but I can't swear that's accurate.

Some people have had problems with corrupt save files which has stopped advancement, but if it is still moving slowly upwards.... you could ask the support guys to take a look at your save data. I recently became Deadly (yeah, right! :) ) and I was unaware of things slowing down during my time as Dangerous, but boy does advancement slow down once you are Deadly! :)

Seems to be working fine for me...

Hit Elite in combat on the 8th of this month...

Head over to ER 8 and have fun in the compromised Nav Beacon there...

That should help you see if your rating is stuck.

That is a pretty bold claim considering we had the Devs themselves explain in detail how combat ranking works (it does not factor in ship size)

At Dangerous, you advance in points, and each ship is worth a set number of points regarding the combat rank of their pilot

Harmless is 0 points for you
Mostly Harmless 0
Novice 0
competent 0.25
Expert 0.5
Master 0.75
Dangerous 1.0
Deadly 1.25
Elite 1.5

It's 2000 points from Deadly to Elite, and probably less for Dangerous to Deadly, so you should see 1% improvements every 20 dangerous ships you shoot down.

where do you even find these things?

Combat at a Compromised Nav or Has Res. I just went up 3% in one hour. (Dangerous) It's roughly 20 ships per 1% for me at Dangerous.

Wow that's good going! 60 ships shot down in one hour .............1 per minute did you breathe at all during that time :)

just search this forum for compromised nav. There are several posts listing many of them.

I have had no issues of late and I'm also Dangerous (93% now) ... all I've been doing for the past 40% or so is either haz resource extractions and high intensity conflict zones - been pretty quick too

Anaconda. Only target single ships. Sidewinder, Eagle, Imperial Eagle, etc etc up to maybe ASP/Cobra. Anything Elite takes priority.

So they are actually static and stay compromised forever?

So far they are static.

303 kills this week so far and up 12%.

.
I've not experienced that myself but yes I believe killing bigger fish than yourself does maximise your score count.

I moved up to 'Dangerous' with 3030 kills
Next was 'Deadly' at 7120
Then 'Elite' at 11362

So you need about 4000+ kills to reach the last two levels, other factors are taken into consideration as well.
