Very strange occurence...

I was taking part in the Community Goal, whacking pirates in a High Intensity Res in Bylgit in a Cobra. Made over 1.5mil in bounties. I stop to repair some modules using the AFMU. All done. Everything back up and ruinning and as I'm floating checking some information on the side panels, suddenly the power goes out on everything. My powerplant was working fine a second earlier, and as the life support timer is counting down I frantically check the module statuses trying to work out what's gone wrong. I can't turn any on, and then see that my power reading is 0% even though the powerplant is fine 100% fine. I wasn't attacked; didn't crash into anything. The ship just shutdown and bricked.

The ship blew up, losing me hours of effort in bounty vouchers. Any ideas what may have happened here? :S

send support a ticket and see if they can assist you in figuring out what happened. If it was a bug they can help you.

Maybe you hit self destruct on that side panel you were checking...

It was the one on the left, I believe, and just happened as I was preparing to set off again. The option to self-destruct is in the right-panel in the list of options, isn't it? Quite sure I didn't touch that. And would the flight computer say something about self-destruct being activated? I might have done it once long ago when I ran out of fuel somewhere, so can't recall, or if it gives you a chance to cancel. Anyway, pretty sure that wasn't it.

Thargoids?

Okay, another theory. Silent running. There are multiple ways to kill yourself with it. You could push your hotkey and didn't notice, also there have been reports of people getting stuff activated on it's own when using X52/55 Joysticks.

This, if you use the X52/55, there are known issues with them doing things without you actually touching anything, power draw issue.

I have silent running bound to my keyboard backspace key. I was nowhere near it. Had my hands on the throttle and stick just as it happend. Currently using a Thrustmaster T.Flight.Hotas X temporarily.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just did so. See what they say.

Definitely file a ticket, something very wrong with that, unless you simply got run over, which is quite possible, and a ticket will get FD to give a look and discover if that was the cause OR if there's an unknown bug that did it.

Weird, did you check Functions panel while this was happening ? Maybe Silent Running was on? It bypasses modules' switches

Odd...

In such extreme/weird Situations, two Options have helped in the past :

- Reboot/Repair (gives the Ship a fresh start)
- Quit to Menu (has solved some otherwise unstoppable overheating bugs)

I don't remember doing so. :( In the two or three minutes I had as the air ran out, I was frantic, like Khan in Star Trek II, when the Enterprise uses the prefix code to lower Reliant's shields, and he yells, "The override, where's the override!". I checked everything, all the indicators. As I recall when Silent Running is on, you see the indication on the right side dash display above fuel and heat signature, and it wasn't there.

Ah... I didn't know there was a reboot function in the ship? I would have tried it if I'd known where to find that. I tried quiting during the final moments, but the game said, "Cannot save, your ship is in danger, you must wait 15 seconds..." or something like that. So I went back afraid it might blow me up when I restarted the game, so I tried using the last few seconds to work something out... to no avail. :S

Ran out of fuel?

...it sounds like an out-of-fuel event. Did you remember to top off before running off to hunt bounties?

I had kept my fuel low for combat but was watching it. There was maybe 10% bar left on the guage on a 16t tank?

You maybe onto something though because I had heard a fuel warning earlier. But if the bar wasn't showing empty...

I was easily within supercruise of the local station and would have topped up if I'd thought I was too low, so then there was possibly a discrepency between the fuel readout and the actual amount?

Something similar happened to me in a Resistance Pocket , underestimated how little fuel I had until everything cut out and I spent the remaining time left on emergency oxygen watching the npc's continue the fight around me.

Heard the low fuel warning and ran out not much after that - I put the insurance cost down to experience and always make sure I have plenty fuel now before combat :)

How fun!

Wish you'd recorded your final moments of existence and uploaded it.

When it hit the last few seconds, did you have that resigned moment. The point at which you know it's all over?

 As I'm suspected of pilot error, I have decided to consult a lawyer from the Pilot's Federation. He has advised me to say no more until the result of the official inquest from Frontier Support. :p

As I saw the final seconds tick away, my reaction went something like General Chang's in the Battle of Khitomer in Star Trek VI.
