General / Off-Topic Happy Thanksgiving.

Ah yes, Thanksgiving. When we all Americans come together and remember all the good the Native Americans did for us before we killed them all.

More Americans are killed drunk driving on Thanksgiving than any other holiday, drive safe out there CMDRs.

Happy Poison-The-Natives Day!!

Kidding, Happy Thanksgiving :)

har har, taken as a joke :) ...BUT:

Does the UK ever celebrate Anglo Saxon pillage the Celts and conquer Britain day?

But nevermind the "history used as ammunition" game. It gets.. "old" (see what I did there?)

What am I thankful for? hmmm..

I am thankful that I payed for a lifetime pass over 1.5 years ago, and that
- this upcoming Horizons Beta
- Season 2
- Black Friday paint set
- cobra mkIV
- [to be determined]
- [to be determined]
- ...

.. is handed to me on pretty much a silver platter on update day. a cost spent 1.5 years ago feels like super extra free today, and the next time, and the next...

Yeah.. theres that warm thanksgiving feeling. :)

I never enjoyed celebrating Thanksgiving because of it's shady history but I do have a handful of Native American friends and I prefer to treat it as a sort of a... cultural celebration, I guess. I attended a Pow Wow last year with them and had a lot of fun looking at all the handcrafted goods and dances.

This year will be the first year I don't have an familial obligations, as none live near me any longer. It will be nice and quiet and I can enjoy it in peace.

But happy holidays regardless. :)

So true. The Saxons were effectively Germans, we should demand compensation from Germany. And the Vikings of course, they had most of Britain at one point, get your cheque book out Denmark! And the Romans!! What did the Romans ever do for us?

Thank you for the good wishes on Thanksgiving Day. My family and I are soon to sit down to dinner, and give thanks for all we have, and for having each other. The story of the immigrants from England is filled with sorrow and victory, a sweet and sour mix for certain. But a more wonderful story could not have been written from fiction. Bless them for their bravery, and us for continuing ours. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I'm not very fond of today's celebration either because of the history behind it, but I hope everyone eats and drinks heartily and stays safe. Don't drink and drive! Drink and fly :D

Or as we Canadians call it... Thursday.

We didn't poison them. We gave them diseases ;)

Here here. I wish all our former colonists season tidings and stuff :D

Thank you, kind person. :D Wish you the best as well.

I enjoy celebrating Thanksgiving. And I think it's important to remember that there actually were Natives and colonists who had peaceful relations. Quite a few Native tribes were welcoming and we're often willing to deal with us in good faith. And it's important to never forget what some of our ancestors did to the Natives. It was definitely terrible, no doubt. But Thanksgiving is hardly a victory celebration for us.

And the top reason most people celebrate Thanksgiving, and even days like Christmas and Halloween, is because some of our fondest memories are from those specific days. You get together with family, friends that you haven't seen in a while, you eat like a glutton, and you enjoy the day together. Even before we even learned as children the story of Thanksgiving and the tragedy of the Natives, we knew that those holidays were something special. Halloween, Christmas, Easter- they all have pagan roots but we don't celebrate them for the same reasons our ancestors did- to some, its about honoring Christ, and to some its about reconnecting with family, and to other its a bit of both.

This is actually far better than my explanation lol This is what its about to us.

Thanks! It's really just an excuse to get together with family and eat too much food. Stop on by and have some turkey.

Yes. Exactly. A huge cultural excuse to force family to spend time together. And who can turn down a good meal? :D

Don't get too hung up on the past. I never, even though I know the true meaning of Christmas.. 'Argos'... One for UK only, I think. ;)

I would like to point out that, technically, we weren't considered "Americans" when we shared what is considered the first Thanksgiving with the Native Americans. We were British. Sooo...technically Thanksgiving is a British holiday celebrated in America.
