So which start will you choose?

Default: Start in a safe Federal core system with a Sidewinder ship, single pulse laser and 100 CR

Imperial Bounty Hunter: Have the option to start in an Imperial Colony with an Imperial Eagle Mk II Fighter with upgraded weapons and shields and 1,000 CR

Federal Trader: Have the option to start in a Federal border system with a basic Cobra Mk III loaded with cargo worth 1,000 CR and 1,000 CR in cash

Pirate: Have the option to start in an anarchic Frontier system with a stolen but upgraded Cobra Mk III and only 100 CR

Independent Trader: Have the option to start in the Lave system with a basic Cobra Mk III and only 100 CR

Explorer: Have the option to start on the edge of explored space with a long range version of the Cobra Mk III and 3,000 CR

Kickstarter Special: Have the option to start in the founder's world with any starter ship and 4,000 CR

As I understand it, if you get a higher tier, you get the options below. So if you choose Explorer, you get ALL the start options below.

Just curious what you folks will choose.

I will go with the Federation Trader. I've always served them in FFE/FE2, and I don't see myself switching sides anytime soon. :)

Hey OneoftheLost, where have you been hiding? :)
As for you question I am going to go for the Explorer option as I want to explore the new Elite game. Later, I might go for the basic Sidewinder start as building up a basic ship with little money was for me one of the fun parts of the original games.

@ Geraldine :p I've been around. I try not to get too hyped up by games. I was waiting on Starcraft 2 for 4 years. It never lived up to the hype. :(

On the other hand, this is ELITE, so the hype will just be there regardless.

I'm on the Oolite forums with the same name, and on SSC as IronHound.

I do think I'll try the default start at some point. Just to say I went from the bottom to Elite. ( and I WILL be achieving Elite.)

I'll take Cobra Explorer - either the "official" start, or the founders' world. Remains to be seen. And I'll probably switch to Asp Explorer soon afterwards... ;)

I'll be taking the Pirate option, so I can hunt you all down. ;)

If Kickstarter succeeds I'll stand you virtual drink at Lave station. Ashley, I don't expect you to answer this but does DB has his friends primed in case we fall short?

Back on-topic, it's explorer for me. I went through all 8 universes in Elite and was disappointed they were the same (what was I expecting for 22k?) so the idea of wilder outer reaches is a really exciting prospect in E4

Default sidewinder. A head start takes most of the fun away doesn't it?

I don't know about MOST of the fun! It will probably take say 5--10 hours of gaming to progress from sidewinder to MkIII (say); this is no time compared to the hundreds of hours I might be playing :D.

I'll definitely plump for a MKIII of some kind, but I don't know where I'll start. What are the odds of starting at my spacestation :p?

I honestly couldn't tell you. I'm pretty confident we're gonna make it though. :)

What's the 'founder's world'?

I don't know the details, but I believe it is a world that only people with the backers decal can visit.

Good to hear!

I might start some sort of Mad Max-style intergalactic highway gang. Like the Reavers in Firefly :D

I'm just going to be a sneaky sod and sneak up behind a panther clipper, disable its engines, knock out it's shields, cut a nice sized hole in its cargo bay and help myself to a few choice goodies. :D

I don't think that starting in a different ship will make too much of a difference in the long run.

Here's my thinking.

Every single save I have in FE2, and FFE, started out with me maximizing my credits so that I could get into my favorite ship. From there, I spent a rediculous amount of hours enjoying the game. For me, its not about progressing to the BEST ship, its about progressing to my FAVORITE ship. Sure, Frontier said that they will be releasing what? 15 ships? (Can't remember what the FAQ said.) I can tell you right now, that I won't fly most of those. The Cobra Mk. III has been, and always will be, my favorite. So if I can start with it, it doesn't take away from the enjoyment, on the contrary, I think it removes some of the 'grind' and gets me in my ship of choice faster.

I like hearing about peoples play styles. I'm essentially a 'goody two shoes' so I can't see myself ever pirating. You will find me in Federation space trading, escorting convoys, and hunting pirates.

Can't wait to cross lasers with some of you. :D

I'll be playing the Independent Trader option even though I will have the ability to start with more credits and cargo, I really like the idea of starting with minimal resources but I would like a decent ship and starting off in the original Lave system just sounds "right" to me.. so while I'll have a better ship, I don't think that it's going to be me such a boost that it will ruin the early game for me.
