I'd be more likely to buy paintjobs if...

It looks like a matt black paint. I really hope that is it.

Lucky then that we don't have real physics simulation in game. I don't even want to think what that paint job would do to heat management when fuel scooping :) Reflective chrome FTW!

I thought I'll never buy a paintjob, but I did it right now... it feels good supporting them again...

Guess what: Even when I reset my save, I'll look like a made man... ;-)

...if the packs included a single paintjob, but for each ship in the game - rather than half a dozen paints for a single ship. I'm put off making the purchase because I know I won't be seeing it for months at a time.

...if there was a chance to see them in-game before buying. Maybe there could be a promo event from time to time where the packs are briefly unlocked for everybody?

...if they were cheaper. It's a lot easier to drop £2 than £10, especially for a completely useless, faintly geeky, infinitely-replicable virtual item.

...if it's for charity. Have FD spoken to Comic Relief about a Red Nose Day paintjob? If not guys, you should. Sod it, here's the link: http://www.comicrelief.com/support-us/partners#section-licensing

Any more folks?

more to come as fast as I can crank them out before 2.0 beta.
Just keep in mind I'm poor and can't afford them all..

FD...make and sell a MOD KIT so players can create their own skins.

Imagine the variety then!

Of course each mod would need to be "moderated" to ensure it's PC...but hey they factor that in the price of the kit, and hey presto everyone is happy.

Clicker

Yeah and could you imagine how many flying :):):):):) there would be submited

I don't think I'll ever buy any skins, just because of how expensive they are! AUD$10 for a piece of cosmetic DLC is unheard of. Especially when we're often talking a set of skins for just one ship. Or AUD$20 for a single chrome skin! For comparison, during the current Steam Sale on now I could buy two triple-A games and have change left over for the price of a single skin, for a single ship.

If they made a single skin AUD$2.50 (£1.25), but made that skin available for every ship once purchased, I'd probably have bought four packs already at least, and they'd have at least £5 off me. As of now, they have nothing.

Also, if they allowed people to create their own I'd have made lots and bought my own designs for my ships too. So there's that.

I think we all agree the skins are expensive, but you have to look at the whole idea. They are not holding a knife under you throat, those are purely cosmetics.

ED requires server maintenance and continuous development. yet it is not subscription based (and thanks FD for this). Instead, we can buy cosmetics and goodies. We can, but we are not forced to. And those cosmetics have no effect on gameplay, we won't gain superiority over other players just because we can afford to. I might be wrong, but as I understand it, FD chose the most honest, straight forward way of getting additional funds to support the game as well as they can: by letting players pay for it whenever they can/want to. It's even very equitable when you think about it, as peeps without to much worries in the money department will buy those cosmetics, while others might want to restrain themselves. In the end, that's the best system possible: after the base price, everyone can give more if he/she wants, but the game is complete anyway. It's a fair contract, one I'm happy with at least.

While I generally agree with you the content is absolutely optional. So I don't really care what they cost or how they are packed. I buy one whenever I feel like it. It's not that you are missing out on anything if you don't have a paint job or can't really afford one for that matter. You don't see much of them anyway unless you go debug or it comes with some interior modifications.
