Getting a Federal Assault Ship?

Honestly i only need 2 more ranks its no big deal, plus id end up ranking up just for the Corvette so i might as well get started now if the FAS is really as good as people say, plus if its better then a vulture but cheaper then a FDL that is less trade grinding for me.
Well, it seems like you could buy it and upgrade as you go, since it's pretty cheap to buy initially.
I have learnt in this game to simply just max out and go A rated for combat, i tried a D rated connie and it sucked that is why i went back to the vulture and my connie is nothing more then a tradeconda now.
But i only ask as it seems why use the sledge hammer made of gold and costs a fortune to upgrade when i can use a cheaper ship to do the same work...problem is the vulture is ok, but it does sometimes make u feel i need a bit more punch.
The FDL has that Huge but honestly i think its just a gimick, so then ill try the FAS, the python is to slow for combat imo, the Conda while big and beefy is also just to slow, and to dam expensive to upgrade.
But if the FAS is a good D rated ship i might give it a try, i just hate flying to Li-yong systems to upgrade cause it so far from my home system. But those 15% discounts are great.

Ah right, I didn't realise you had that kind of trade power at your disposal. Aye, just grind a few hours in the 'Conda and you'll get your cash for a well-appointed FAS. Though I'd personally go for the FdL because its better shield will cost you less on your repair bills in the long run.
Well i worked out i could run D rated PP and thrusters to get the cost down to around 37mil in total with pulse lasers so it should be cheaper in the long run then a fdl, plus i get bored of trading pretty quick.
Need a fun little fighter.
And if Li-youg sells the FAS i could get 10-15% discount.

109 Piscium system in Li Yong-Rui space has the FAS, and between Lembava and Diaguandri you should be able to find all the modules you want with the 15% discount as well.
Oh, and as others have said, it's definitely worth it. Just a joy to fly.

It's not necessarily better than the Vulture, as in it's not a nailed-on upgrade in all departments. But it is faster, has stupidly tough hull (particularly in 1.5 with HRP), has no power issues, allows for complete freedom of weapon choice, has much better dps and has a slightly clearer frontal view.
It's not as agile but my Vulture only had D thrusters, whereas my FAS has A, so the difference isn't huge. It also has weak shields but they regenerate faster. With the hull strength, it's just not a big deal losing shields.
Throw in biweave shields in 1.5 and it is a beast.
well thank you all for the help certainly try it out, just need to do the pain full missions to get the dam thing. I wish 1.5 was out so i could see my % to rank up.
Personally I upgraded to A as soon as possible. Its a bit of a barge when manouvering at D grade unless you are good with FAOFF, which I am not
I have 3 Assault Ships. My fave boat by far and ive flown them all.

Will do i went for the nearest fed system and im regretting it all ready..all these pick up illegal this and that. My poor vulture has no jump range or fuel for this run around business.
17 draconis is 480 LY from me atm, is it purely charity work?

Well finally got the FAS, and well im a bit impressed for a fed ships its not that bad, i was kinda expecting a sort of dropship, but its way better worth the really annoying rank grind but i feel i have seen the best the feds have got atm.

I like my FAS totally B rated, except the PD. And military composite. Ramming speed.
Only C rated thrusters and PP, but i really am starting to love this ship, i am able to throw it about and it handles change of direction so well, also anyone notice it handles better in SC?
