CQC Question on CQC

So I tried this last night and the first thing I notice is my rank of 1 and my team mates ranks of something like 16 and 32 LOL. I'm limited to one ship and getting my butt handed to me 14 times to 2 kills I got - am I at a disadvantage here? (Saying that, my "team" lost something like 7 to 24 so I think we all sucked lol)

I was playing TDM and wasn't that impressed TBH though one thing I really liked was the maps - as in, make space stations like this with all these things around it! so much more interesting to fly around and fight in though as with all games, it takes a while to work out the maps but why not procedurally generate some of the thing here around the current space stations?

Than you could increase the scan ranges of patrol vessels and make smuggling a real challenge :D

Tbh yes you are at a bit of a disadvantage at the start, It's almost required that you are very careful picking your battles and using the blistering speed of the Condor. I found myself doing nothing but hit and run with 0 pips to shields for the first while even in Beta.
There is also the fact that many people that play it are those that have spent significant hours on it so obviously have got better at it simply because they know were powerups, tunnels and other things are as well as the best places to go.

Yeah I'd like to see new station stuff too, I think they need love in general. DB confirmed they wanted very much to put the CQC stations into the main game, no eta but I would imagine all stations would get a pass and improvements when that happens. Not 100% sure on the smuggling bit but otherwise I'd agree :)

I was thinking that you could use the extra objects scattered around stations to sneak your approach in which would be a lot more fun and challenge than just flying right in lol.

Nah I only use the stock Condor and I am fine. The thing is inexperienced players are going to blame the ships instead of their inexperience. You don't know the maps, each ships handling properties, each ships weakness and strengths, nor the lay of the land. Then it is going to be the first time you jump into the Condor and also learn the new button layouts and slightly different mechanics. On top of that new CQC players often don't understand the importance of pips to shields and how important using terrain to your advantage is going to effect their chances. Open play pvp is extremely forgiving where CQC is not.

Not knowing any of that is going to obviously going to put you at a disadvantage. However the stock ship is pretty much the best ship in the hands of good pilots.

It would be nice if they would create some training missions for CQC it would go a long way IMHO.

Yep I could take the time to learn to play, as I said above however it's so far removed from ED that's it's not for me. I was thinking after I played one round that maybe the best course of action was to stay hidden until you see another player though I think 2 of the enemy were working together because as soon as I was shooting at one, I was getting shot. I like some of the things in it, i didn't like the gimbaled weapons - that was my biggest gripe.

To be fair 'fixed' weapons in the normal game gimbal nearly as much around the 2.25/3 kl range. The minute of angle is close but size differences in the ships makes it seem much different. Throw in the fact that if they didn't gimbal it would be terrible game design. The ships are so agile and there is enough terrain with the fact that pips to shields increases shield regen that not having any gimbal would result in hardly any deaths happening in the game at all.

And yeah it isn't for every one. I don't have issues transitioning back and forth though, however I see that some might. It is much more refreshing to see combat isn't coddling players like open pvp does. The fact that is much different than the open game though is IMHO a valid reason not to enjoy it as it has a much different feel.
