Planets grapihics quality leaves a lot to be desired

Well, if we can find minerals and stuff which we can craft with, and at the same time do some missions. I think driving around and exploring will be great fun. But driving just for the driving could be boring in a while, but lets test it first and then make up theories and conclusions, btw its a beta so thing will be tweaked and changed as we go.

Actually, you are wrong on both regards.

One, no one expects this to be a game changer. The people who already like the game the way it is are happy because they think it's a game 'enhancer' so to speak. People who are already bored or unhappy with the game in some other way are not really thrilled because they honestly want Star Citizen but don't want to admit it on here.

Two, the rants obviously did not have to wait for the shine to wear off, hence your post. Lot's of people are already complaining and the game isn't even out yet in beta form. I've seen one guy complaining about the possibility of gankers on planets!

ill admit I want star citizen..the graphics, the way the ships look and operate, the arcorp module ect...you can see the gorgous world that they are in the process of making...its how I imagine a space game to be,all the game elements rolled into one...and now the 2.0 is out on ptu.....looks very promising to me.
but only time will tell if it pulls off...I think it will though

I want both games to be great in the long run,but SC clearly has the looks and better ideas imo....and battlescape looks fantastic aswell....SC should buy it from the ks and implement it in there game

Do you speak for everyone?

I have read posters saying that they think it will be a game changer.

Are you saying I am bored or unhappy with the game in some way? Do you claim to know that?

Do I want Star Citizen but am afraid to admit that here? Do you know that?

It seems you are the one who claims to know all these things claiming to be 'right'.

I agree. I have been loving the game since original beta, but I only play once or twice a week, so I find it difficult to get bored of it. At least the planets will be a very different environment which I am looking forward to exploring.
The gameplay will come in time. The background sim will be expanded and hopefully proper NPC's giving out quests etc.

For me the game is great as is. It is only going to get better.

The groundwork for the game has already been laid. It is the game now that it will be in the future, just with more bells and whistles. It seems very unlikely that new material will be added to this game that will suddenly turn that model on its head and suddenly it will be a different game with different objectives.

ED is a game where you shoot things and earn credits to buy ships. That is the model. If there were a different model planned we would have seen more evidence of it by now. To think they will suddenly arrive 3 years from now with a new model saying "actually, here it is, this is the game we want you to play" seems very unlikely to me. "All that other stuff was just leading to this moment and actually we were going to safety pin the depth and purpose of the game later"

Nah, not going to happen. This is it, everything else added is just fluff.

Star Citizen will be an interactive movie set in space. Don't expect it to be anything like ED. It is designed to look good first and play good second. It will never have a whole galaxy, trillions of 1:1 scale planets and free roam on their surfaces. It will be cutscene landings and walking on a limited area handcrafted for your viewing pleasure. Now, not looking as good is the trade off FD had to accept for ED being what it is.

Battlescape will be an arena shooter and dogfighting game set in a single solar system. Don't tell me it can create other systems and the single system is only a design choice. Procedural generation doesn't mean you can't brute force how each planet will look like and make sure everything looks pretty. If you don't like what you see, you tweak the parameters a little until something you like appears. This pretty much dictates how many systems you can have. Battlescape will never have galaxy wide multiplayer because they are going dedicated server route. p2p instancing is the trade off FD had to make to whole galaxy playable on a 1:1 scale, no other way around it.

So tell me, which game do you really want to play at the end of the day. If it's SC or I:, why are you still wasting your time here?

As an explorer im lauthing loud about your opinion.

I think comparisons between ED and IB with respect to graphic fidelity of planets will only be fair when we see airless rocky planets on IB. If it even has them.

For all we know, ED's Earth like Worlds might blow what we've seen in IB so far out of the water. But they might not. IB is focused on a very small potential Base for assets, whereas ED will need to cover an entire galaxy's worth of potential assets. There is a chance that diversity may mean a reduced fidelity.

So long as ED looks good, that's all that matters.

Not every game has to be exactly the same.

Are you serious? Are you telling us that ED is not a game that has been created to look good first and play good second? I think you are deluded. Almost all the development time that has been put into this game has been to make it a simulation of the galaxy. The amount of actual gameplay tools and and content dwarfs by comparrison.

I'm talking with as much certainty as the OP and many of the supporters of the idea of it. If everyone has the right to criticise FD's work on the game and judge it insufficient, unsatisfactory and lackluster as if they are paid to be professional critiques, I think I have every right to voice my opinion of people's judgement without giving names on anyone.

That is your opinion of what you think will happen. The only thing we can do is wait and see and hope. And I personally don't play for credits to get a bigger ship, if I did that, I would be bored senseless. I play becasue I love the feel of piloting my own starship. As said earlier I have been playing since original Beta, the biggest ship I have is an Imperial Clipper, but I use my courier the most and still take out my eagle and sidewinder at times. It's only about credits and ships if thats what you want it to be.

I want a space game that has the flight of ED...but the little immersive bits that SC offers in terms of walking around the ships and citys ect,hangers..
skyrim in space with flying around if you will...

I back ED and SC...we don't know what the future holds....but for me when I look at SC and play it for myself,it grabs me more in a wow factor, its just a shame I cant set off in SC for a adventure yet

A simulation of the galaxy does not have to look good. It has to create stars, objects that surround them and their movements correctly on a 1:1 scale. It doesn't in any way means it will have the best looks. It at least has to look somewhat ok to be playable. Looks are in no way the first thing on the list.

Nope, you just spend all your time arguing with anyone on the forum who has any criticisms about the game pretty much.

If you are happy with the game and where it is going, fine. Good for you. Go and play the game.

Puzzles me why you spend so much time on the forum defending it instead of playing.

Everyone who is on this forum likes the game. They would not be on here posting if they didn't, they would be too busy doing something else. Not everyone is happy about the design schedule or design plan for the game.

There are those including myself who believe that priorities are skewed and would rather see other aspects of the game addressed. That is down to personal opinion. Nobody is wrong. It is a forum. People are free to air their views.

And this is because there is so much for explorers to do right? Pressing a button and selling data?

lol there is nothing to explore....no alien derelict space craft to find outside of the bubble...nothing interesting.
just more of the same looking systems with the samey looking backdrop, the only thing that changes is the name of the system and the scattering of the planets....who cares if its to scale.....

Sometimes I think FD should have just advertised this game for the open university types who just want a bland slow space exploration sim.

Its like the guys who flew out to hutton....you point your ship at the station and sit there in SC doing nothing until you arrive?....yawn
my rose tinted specs came off a long time ago....
