What is the system spec of demo machines

Does anyone know what the specification of the machines that are running the current footage we are seeing of gameplay?

I have a fairly up-to-date system, i would like to know whether i will need to upgrade to run D:E

Minimum and recommended specs are yet to be seen...

any good guesses?

Worry about system specs WHEN the game is available. There is no infomation as to hardware requirements yet.

The game release is at least 15 months away and prbably closer to 18 months. If you think you will need to upgrade, start saving now. certainly buying new hardware for something coming out so far into the future is silly. You can either get the same thing then at 1/4 the price or get something with a lot more performance.

Take a quick peak at star citizen site. Think that has some recommended'ish specs, albeit tentative. Cannot imagine E D will be a million miles from these.

Think there was another thread about this with other peoples thoughts as well.

And there's the small matter of the best part of £300,000 required in nine days - assuming no one else pulls their pledge: yesterday I'm positive the total dropped by £4,000 or £5,000.

No one pulled their pledge as such (to the best of my knowledge) it's one or two clowns who pledge a high tier then pull it later, then pledge it again, then pull it, repeat ad infinitum.

However the general trend is going up and come the last few days / hours there should (hope hope :D) be a massive upsurge in pledges .... for now we need backers.

For an in depth look though check here : www.elite-stats.co.uk - Andrew has done an excellent job of scraping the KS screen.

It doesn't matter if the current code needs a 6-core I7 to get 30fps. I'm a programmer and I have a saying - "the first rule of optimisation is DON'T".

Don't do it... until you need to. Correct behaviour, clear and maintainable code, these are more important. Premature optimisation can make things difficult later on.

DB did say he was trying to get the title on the widest range of PC's possible. I can't possibly imagine they would go for SC's level of graphics. Heck, look at the demo graphics. Its VERY clear where they are going with the look of the game.

For all of you expecting photorealistic graphics and stuff on the level with SC... boy have I got news for you.

You're basing this opinion on seeing the tech demos? I'd expect the graphics to be far more polished by the time we get to the beta stage and in final versions.

As for getting on the widest range of PCs possible; You can do that by including scalable graphics options, like pretty much all PC games do these days. Having it run on a low end PC shouldn't mean it can't look good on a top of the range gaming system.

I'm not saying it won't look good. I'm saying the art direction is FAR from hyper-realistic. Just look at the ship designs. Very Frontieresque. I think some people are mistaking this game's graphical design around Star Citizens, which I don't think will be the case. I also can't imagine Elite: Dangerous requiring more then 1 gig of video ram. Just the design of the game can tell you ALOT about where its going, and how its going to get there. You say a tech demo isn't final, but I HIGHLY doubt that the Anaconda or Viper will change overly much graphically in a single year's time.

Granted these are just my opinions, but I can't imagine Elite Dangerous rivaling Star Citizen for graphics.

...and I'm not sure I'd want it too. :)

It's soon now

Well, the game isn't 15 months away any more. Anyone have any idea now of what the minimum spec's will be for it? My PC is cheap :( so I need a heads up if it's no where near base spec.

I think they are currently doing some testing to establish the specs for the Alpha in December but I would take those with a large pinch of salt when they are released because there will be a lot of optimisation to be done after alpha. FD have said they want to make the game as scalable as possible but haven't released any system specs yet.

What are your specs? Refractive index would be useful to know. I know someone who does good rates on frames, if you have a problem with frame rates.

I'll, er, leave quietly now....
