How motion sick are you!? Horizion Beta

I guess I have developed a hell of a set of VR legs. The 1.5 and 2.0 cockpit bugs never fazed me. I noticed it like everyone else but I can still play for hours in the rift with not a sign of motion sickness. So it got me wondering, am I just a freak of nature or just how motion sick are the rest playing in VR? Also curious to the age of ED's VR players to see if that has any role to play in this. Myself I am 36.

I guess there must be a whole bunch of people out there who get dizzy very easily. I have a mate who can't play any games with refresh of 60hz. He is ok with 120hz but 60 makes him ill. Took me some years to figure out what the trigger was for him.

I have never ever had an issue with VR sickness even back in the days of IO-Systems PC3d (no head tracking).

There has not been any Oculus game or demo that can induce motion sickness in me.

I like VR too much to let anything silly get in the way.

even the tuscany demo ?lol that is the ONLY thing that got me..left me green for 2 days.

I was so desperate to try horizons that I just pushed through it and I'm fine now, apparently they have made an improvement with the latest beta, and the buggy doesn't bother me at all which is surprising.

I don't get any motion sickness, even with that camera bug that we had until recently, but I still did not like playing it, it destroyed immersion and basically felt like I wasn't using a VR device, but more of a monitor strapped to my head, I felt disconnected with the ship and environment.

No issues with SRV and crazy driving, although now that we have land to fly around, I do get a kind of odd yet nice feeling when flying upside down or doing various maneuvers near the surface, but this is very much welcome. Its kinda the sensation you get when on a rollercoaster.

Never even noticed the recent camera bug. Seriously, don't think it affected me at all.

I've very happing spending hours in the Rift flying around. In Horizons I've already spent hours skimming over the surface and flying down canyons - woo hoo !

Then I get into the SRV...

Five minutes, and I'm ready to puke.

I parked near the top of a crater mountain last night, and set off in the SRV to reach the very top. Got so sick on the undulating terrain that I had to head back immediately. It was touch and go whether or not I was going to barf.

Ugh. I'm hoping I can acclimatise - if not, this aspect of the game is a non-starter for me. I'm going to add a bug report to see if the won't add a pilot-able skimmer. At least that way I wouldn't have to go uuuuupp-dooooown-uuup-down over the landscape...

I consider myself relatively resistant to motion sickness in the Rift, especially now after having gained 9 months of experience.
ED has always been the one of the least problematic games for me regarding this.

1.5 ships beta was a completely different animal. This was one of the worst VR experiences I ever had. Although the forced head movement introduced in that beta was subtle it made me feel queasy right after launching. After 1h of playing I had to stop due to dizziness and nausea. I felt bad for the rest of the day.

I haven't pre-ordered Horizons yet. I read that the issue still isn't completely removed in Horizons beta. If that doesn't get fixed I won't buy Horizons, no way!

Tuscany demo has nothing that would make me sick.

^^^ this is a handy sickness tester for VR users. If you can handle this you're safe to fly in space.

Mirror's edge with vorpx would be another good test since it's not native VR it's more likely to affect sensitive people.

I'm immune to all of these experiences.

I'm not really prone to it (been on a ship in a force 9 gale with everyone vomiting around me, but I'm happily eating a nice greasy bacon butty)

I find the 1.5 cockpit bug a bit discombobulating though. Kind of like the feeling you have when you've had too much beer and close your eyes and the world feels like it's moving but it's not.

The SRV is tiring at first but I spent a good hour and a half last night exploring a moon, including finding a ridge that would make an incredible hill climbing race event.

no motion sickness for me. I never get it in Elite dangerous except when using the debug/classified camera and make large lateral movements or roll the camera. Then it can become mildly nauseating. Never while playing though

Very!! I tested 1.5b for about 10 minutes and then spent 3 hours feeling rubbish.. I battled with 2.0 trying my best not to yaw when in flight this let me at least get down to the juddering planet surfaces and mess in the SRV, which I dont find to bad, the turret was the worst thing about it for me, that is nausea producing. I really hope that the cockpit returns to what it was like in previous versions, knowing the release cycles of FD are a lot slower now, if it goes live with this issue I wont be able to play anymore.

Since the new update for Horizons things are better. I never used to get motion sickness in ED but now with planetary landings and the SRV I'm feeling motion sickness within an hour. It is less than the first release of Horizons but still feel it. Maybe it's just a case of playing every now and again and getting my eyes/brain used to it....not sure if it's that or a case of waiting for the Vive or Oculus-CV and the more updated drivers/software before it stops this feeling.

  • Fix values for inertial camera spring on VR HMDs

Just spotted this on the new patch that came out yesterday.. I can confirm Its back as it should be, as it was is in 1.4 .. Hurray! [Dismiss Sick Bucket]

*EDIT - Sorry horizone - didn't see your post was too pleased about not feeling sick in my ship.. But yes the SRV takes a little bit of getting used to, its forcing me to be very careful how I drive it, the turrets are the worst for nausea though..

No problem :) In my opinion you shouldn't have to get used to it, it should be fixed once and for all. Developers should never add extra movement to the player head in VR, only the actual HMD movement should be used.

Driving is giving me some nausea, but I'm not positive I wouldn't be carsick anyway.
I had bound the vehicle controls to WSAD, thinking I'd use the joystick for the turret. However, it's incredibly jerky. I'm going to remap to joystick yaw and throttle and see how that affects my nausea.

Can you believe I still haven't got to try SRV!

I wasn't able to get it installed because of errors on launch night. Finally installed at 1:30am but since then I've been too busy to try. I couldn't find the SRV bay module in a number of star ports. Will try later tonight.

Just a tip for people..

I have found myself feeling less sick by putting the SRV into Drive Assist mode and not drive about at stupid speeds. Drive assist keeps you at a constant speed and I believe the default hold to accelerate model contributes to making you feel ill because you are constantly adjusting your speed.

Checked out 2.0 Horizons beta for the first time (Beta 3). Compared to 1.5 ships beta the forced head movement on yaw and pitch is gone. But it still seems to exist on roll, though very subtle.
Whatever it is, I still feel a bit unwell while flying in the beta, a feeling I never had in 1.4 and before.

Driving on planets on the other hand doesn't give me any motion sickness at all, unless I really force it by very violent manoevers (but then it probably should, adds to realism actually).
