Playing The Slots!

I'm not a Beta tester, but it's clear from what I've read so far that the number and type of internal slots will be crucial for Horizons.

Guesses:

Frontier wants players to make stark choices about loadouts, if you plan on planetary landings. The ships, of whatever size, will be ever more driven towards single-purpose roles.

Combat players will have an even more stark advantage, in that they will have room for SCB's, instead of being able to land on planets, against explorers, etc.

New goodies, such as new bases and outposts will tend to be on the surface, not in orbit. You will need slots for more than just planetary landing and an SRV. Many of the much desired distant frontier bases will be on the surface of worlds.

Armor, and uprated thrusters, will consume jump range, among other things. So, the mass of objects in the internal slots will be crucial. There are many tales of "Bonk!- Landings Hurt!".

Of the smaller ships, it would seem that only the Cobra and Asp might have a chance. And the Cobra 4 does not seem to be making many friends. T-6's, while having copious slots, will not be able to defend themselves effectively. Larger ships will have capacity, but at an exponential cost increase.

Imperial ships might fear this less, as the "IWin" button does not consume a slot... :(

Bigger ships with more Internals and thus flexibility seem to have a clear advantage.
Beta Forum already has a couple of suggestions though, how to make existing limited space to be used more effectively for that exact reason.

(i.e. Multi-Slot equipping, i.e. 2x Class 1 items fit into a single Class 2 internals, or Flex-Cargo racks that automatically yield remaining room as Cargo space if a small item is placed into a bigger Internal, such as carrying a Scanner in a Class 3 Internal )

This makes targeting internal slots a future problem....if implemented.

Huh? You only need a class 2 internal to load a SRV buggy. The internal most people never really used anyway, for a docking computer or extra fuel tank/hull package.
