Open play should have it's own Universe.

Yes, I know. A dead horse.

I just picked one of two evils.
Ressucrect an old thread or make a new one.

I don't want to spark a huge discussion, I just want to voice my opinion
so I can at least say that I tried and to not be one of those who complain
all the time, but never try to do something about it.

Furthermore I respect the opinion of people who say it should stay the same, the reasons
for solo-play are there and they are good. Be it griefing or connection speeds.
And I don't want Solo to go, I just would like it to be another Universe.

What I would like to see are two Universes one for solo and group play and one for open play.
The reasons also have been discussed numerous of times. My biggest problem is that
solo and group players can influence the universe like ghosts. Plotting shemes and using
mechanics to change the world without risking to be stopped or countered.
And it would be okay, if everyone is a ghost one universe and no one is one in the other.

Would there be a direct feedback form or the like I would have used it instead of the forums,
I really don't want to make a huge deal of it just voice my opinion.

Just in case this doesn't get nuked, I'll give you your answer - it's because unless the way instancing works is drastically changed, there are loads of people moving about in Open every day that you won't see, even if you don't count the ones there isn't a slight chance you'll be matched up with.

Exactly. "Open" isn't everyone, it's lots of different instances. Some players *cannot* meet other players. XBox'ers, for example, are only pared with others on the XBox.

you want to have Juan from Brazil placed in your instance just because he's flying through the same area of space as you despite his ping being over 9,000!!?

That's a bummer. I'd love to at least see more people in supercruise.

Thanks for not directly leashing out on me.
Just wanted to state my opinion is all.

The technical derpycoulties sure would make it hard, especially with the new XB1 players, I can see that.

Still I sometimes feel a little screwed over by the "ghosts" of our universe.

I agree OP! Open play is the big boy pond and solo/group is where the minnows go. Keep them separate. You want to play for real, you gotta earn it for real.

You knew it was a dead-horse, it ain't going to happen, this thread just needs to be locked/closed before the hostilities start.

Yeah...great.

No problem; it may be done to death in a few threads, but it's no big problem to summarise those massive things occasionally.

I don't, particularly, but since the main issue with people being able to switch between modes is being able to do things like tunnel through blockades and the like, it's the only way to do a fully-online Universe. As we all know too well, A Certain Game does things this way and as a result both takes direct flight controls away to go for more of a trad-MMO point/click interface to minimise lag and makes time slow to a crawl when there are hundreds in the same area. It's all a trade-off, really.

Besides, there are plenty of ways to make money in ED without coming across CMDR pirates even when in Open - exploration being the most obvious. So I don't really know what "earn it for real" is supposed to mean, except that some people really want to gang up on newbies in Sidewinders without them having any way to get out of the starting systems.

I think the technical issues bar any further discussion beyond 'theory crafting', since the storylines in the multiple universes would have a high probability of diverging drastically. FD would be upkeeping multiple universes in no time, and that would be hellish.

Having 'ghosts' influence the universe isn't as bad as one might think though, since they are probably evenly distributed among all sides. Having everyone able to meet one another, at a fidelity that would make the contributions of ghosts moot, would cook your computer.

It is a dead horse and all that...

But I think having a truly separate solo experience would be very good for the development of the solo game too.
Mechanics that are perfect for Solo would not need to get sacrificed or mutilated for the multiplayer experience anymore.
Demands for a solo game are very different compared to a multiplayer game and I strongly believe the solo experience would profit very much.

Having said that... it is what it is, and I do perceive the dynamic input into the solo online universe as a positive thing.

It's not only the network and graphical implications of having hundreds, even thousands of people in one place - remembering back to Hutton, can you imagine how bad it would be with a hundred people all wanting the same landing spot? Space stations would need radical redesign to cope with the demand.
