Thargoids, Unknown Artefacts, and Merope; A Planetary Landing Expedition

As an anecdote, I recently tried to take off with my Anaconda from Achenar 3 (which is an almost 7G planet). And i had to boost away just to take off, as soon as I stopped boosting, the ship dropped like a rock and crashed without remedy.
But I believe all of Merope's moons are low gravity so no problem there.

Also, a question about the project, wi'll we be asigned to squads to different moons, or we'll all search one at a time?

It might not make much of a difference, tbh, squads will obviously be more fun; although Derthek's the man on this.

I think it's going to take a lot of people a lot of time to scour all these places. Once you get down there you realise just how big a planet really is!

Think: it's entirely feasible that there are places big enough to prevent one CMDR scouring the whole surface in his/her lifetime, just like the galaxy itself... And there are quite a few targets in Merope.

Mind-blowing, really. So we're gonna need all the official and unofficial Canonneers involved!

I'm not in Merope atm, but I am investigating planets in the UA shell in beta. Because of spoilers I am posting here, but will still use the tags:

I've found a few UAs, so far whilst in orbital flight (SSS, still some distance from the surface).

I hadn't noticed whether the following happened on previous occasions, but the one I'm looking at now is not stationary. Trying to match it's speed, I found that it is moving towards the planet somewhere betweem 16 and 17m/s (at 17 I was gaining on it and at 16 I was losing it). This could be a bug, it could mean it is travelling towards the planet or that it got too close to the gravity well and can't escape now. I'm sure there are other possibilities I can't think of right now. (Actually, it could be in a weird orbit that I can't match... the ship is wobbling about a bit round here).

The thing is still pointing to Merope, and the time between pings is around the 45 second mark (is that normal Asp description morse?)

Edit:

The planet here is Aries Dark Region YF-N B7-2 3 and is a high metal content with surface gravity of 0.44G

Edit 2:

Definitely appear to be moving relative to planet surface too, so I think it is some kind of orbit.

Very interesting. I wonder if we will find them on the surface as well, after the release.

I thought this about beta, not just live. It's specifically what I was (and still am, really) looking for. The fact that I found SSS in orbit was just happenstance so I had to investigate.

With the Meta-Alloys, FD have practically confirmed the existence of life on airless worlds (at least as a story element). I have no idea if the UA is connected to this, but it's interesting.

Edit: Metal worlds i the shell is my target tonight as well.

Just found one next to the star in that system. It aint going anywhere.
And one 0.91ls from the Planet

But that's not within the planetary flight distance or something. The one I was looking at earlier was just under 5Mm from the surface. I've just headed back there since seeing your post. I'm looking at another now, at 3.45Mm from the surface. I'm having a little trouble controlling speed at this level, but it seems to be somewhere around 30m/s to keep up with it.

Edit: This one didn't appear to be moving relative to the surface though, and it just disappeared off contacts. It was not out of my sensor range yet, it was only about 3km away from me.

Interestingly, I've just noticed a difference between Merope in 1.4 and 2.0. In 1.4, Merope 3A showed as "no atmosphere", whereas in 2.0 it shows as 0.0 atmospheres and therefore unlandable...

Perhaps this will change back in live ;)

I was cruising around the surface of Merope 1A (after stalking npc ship Dread Jasper to its orbital region), and came across several downed Nav Beacons in a row..

Turns out "they" aren't the only ones probing the Merope system, and also that "we" aren't the only ones messing with the probes. [/tinfoil]

Interesting.
I'm there as well: how did you find them? As POI while flying, Or just casually while riding the SRV?

Casually cruising- I was heading for this 2km+ tall hill in the distance (turns out it was hundreds of miles distant, never quite reached it)

The Nav Beacons where "whistle" pings on my wave scanner. Had data targets, didn't seem to scan (possibly operator error there)

Could the UA be sentient Technology?
Space debris that humans abandoned that developed into life
Perhaps starting as one of Han Zen's metallic life forms, and as it latched onto space debris and fused with it...

Metal based life forms would have a huge andvantage when it comes to replicating technology from space junk.
If they learn fast, we may soon see living ships and living space stations.

Lets hope they are slow learners :)

Totally! I strongly believe the UA is a mix between AI and Thargoid technology so I completely agree with you! (Yeah I know, I've repeated it many times, but I've got a strange form of Alzheimer's so...)
