Cobra Watch

Hey nice shot of my shiny new cobra there :D..... probably moments before it was in pieces all over deep space but thanks for that, awesome :)

How common is that jittering seen in the video? If that happens a lot with bad connections, it's going to be a real immersion killer.

Allegiance (programmed in 1999) has a fair bit of that when people are playing with bad ping. Presumably it can happen in Elite also if the "server" computer isn't handling the load very well.

Its fairly common at the moment to be honest, but understandable considering they are still tweaking the network code quite a bit.

It could also serve as a "cheat" to make people harder to hit by having them lag. I've seen that exploited in other games where it can be almost impossible to target your opponent as he's constantly "teleporting" around.

This has absolutely been used as an exploit in a lot of games, and it was / is used as an exploit in Allegiance. Lag doesn't bother missile use from the person lagging, but can make it practically impossible to kill them with guns / lasers. IMO the game needs to be balanced so that high lag always hurts the person lagging rather than the low ping people. That eliminates any chance to cheat by intentionally triggering and untriggering torrents and other bandwidth hogs.

If signals are coming with a big delay in a multiplayer instance, then your ship is answering the helm sluggishly rather than teleporting around for other people.

I was fortunate enough to get some afternoon play time and I spotted Commander Fangrim dominating the asteroid field with his new Cobra armed to the teeth.

I'm trying to play the safe game, weighing up decisions and consequences and not risk my pilots life but at what point does the quick reward become a little too tempting? The game has an all new depth now, what stories will you bring back? What decisions will you make?

Welcome back to Zelada Commander Sam, now land before the station vanishes.

I tried to get a fancy "Sunset over Cobra Bay" shot, but like all my wildlife photography the subject wouldn't stand still!
