Are there any CLUES as to where to look for generation ships etc?

Would you like some clues added to help explorers find unique objects/places?

During the stream and other events they have said that there are items out there in the galaxy seeded for us to find. (Crashed ships and whatnot) Without proper scanning tools this is literally going to be impossible to find.

  1. We can scan an entire system for number of objects.
  2. We can scan a planet/moon from a long range (wait for a spinner to go around until its done) The information it returned wouldn't be useful for finding wrecks.
  3. We can fly 2km off the planet and look for objects with our eyes

This is a needle in a haystack. There really is no planetary scan that can help us pinpoint hotspots for man made vs naturally occurring objects on the planet.

So without those tools what is left to help aid us? Trial and error? Many of us will go hours and days and weeks (some months?) searching over and over and over again for anything out of the ordinary .... the question is how will we know we are close? Will there be clues?

Being far away from the bubble there should be little to no signal sources at all. In fact if there are they should be extremely unique and should hold clues. High concentrations of ships in a far away system could also be a clue.

Other than that - where should we start our trek heading toward??

The best thing about not having clues is I have the same chance as anyone to find things. I hate puzzles so I hate clues.

And give it time.... you never know how or where possible clues might come to you. I'd hold back for a few days at least and maybe come up with some kind of plan, seeing as it's a big galaxy to explore and search.

Yeah but there is not a worse feeling in the world when you are looking for something and others find it and you don't. You spent hours/days/weeks looking and some other person did get it. Then your journey is over and it was a waste of time.

That is why I think there will need to be many many objects out there so people can still keep looking but there needs to be unique clues that are not similar at all and only deciphered by the person who gets the clue.

I want to kit out to go exploring immediately but ... where do you go? Seriously just leave and aimlessly wander or should we pick a point and go to it?

Lack of hard clues (beyond 'listen to it') seemed to be enough for the community to figure out the unknown artefacts...

Just as the old trailer gave some hint to those, so will (does) (?) the new trailer give clues for finding just exactly how The Missing generation ships, Alliance, and Thargoids are connected.

Besides, we know that the generation ships are/were sub-light-speed, and set out no more than a thousand years ago. So that quite limits their possible range to inside the populated 'bubble' of space.
Which, in turn, means that everyone's got a chance to find something, not just super-long-distance mapping explorers.

I'd start with Merope... :p

Great point... anyone done the calculations and from where they left? Anyone know the lore behind it?

One thing for sure - we need to add some sort of planetary scanner OR something that changes the blue dots to a different color dot for something that is not naturally occurring...

You have a map, granted it's blank. Your job Commander is to fill in the gaps. NO MORE CLUES, no hints tips or cheats. Find it or don't find it/them. I want clues blah blah blah, we play not because it is easy but because it is hard!!! Man up (or woman).

Err voted no btw.

I suspect there are dozens of generation ships, hopefully enough to give us all a good chance of finding them.

How can we fill in the blanks if we can't even keep track of the systems we've already been to? That feature is missing from the game. If this is going to be a process of elimination...

I don't know get creative. Use a book, create your own book/map/log. Do you need everything handed to you on a plate?

Time consuming. This is a game not a job. I work during the day already and the last thing I want to do is more work when I get home. Nor load a 3rd party program. That was something in the DDF that I considered important.. the commander's log etc..

Besides why pen and paper when we are in the 31st century?

I agree, this is an essential feature which in my opinion should be added. Forget the daft bobble heads, look at improving the core of the game

I am against adding new scanner.
Why? Because it would seriously trivialize looking for clues to 'exploring' now - jump into system, honk, rinse and repeat.
People would start moaning about grinding clues in no time despite adding the scanner...
