Horizons Planets for missions none existent?

I've taken two missions now, but the location doesn't have a planet attached to it....Example:

Biowaste to Khawchauang - Freycinet Depot.

But there's no planet to land on? Am I missing something obvious or is it a bug? :)

Does it say outpost next to it? Could be an orbital station. Look for the orange globe, that might help.

Have same problem, had mission for Womack Holdings in LHS 4003 system, but it doesn't exist. System map only has 1star LHS 4003, 2 planets LHS 4003 1 and LHS 4003 1A, 1 Station Antonio de andrade. That all so can't complete mission, fine before. What is going on?

A few points depending on the planet settlement type:

Open System Map and the planets on which you can land have a blue highlight, a city skyline style highlight indicates there is a settlement on the planet. Click on the planet to view more detail on the location of the settlements on the planet and you can click on each one to view the type of settlement and the facilities available in the left hand information panel. Do these names match anything in the mission?

Important Note if you do not have the exploratory data for the system you will have to travel to that system and do a discovery scan and then do a targetted scan on any unknown planets revealed by the initial scan. Only then will the settlements be displayed in the System Map or Nav Panel.

Last Important point I am under the impression (something I discovered in Beta) that some small types of settlements such as mining expeditions will not be listed in the NAV panel or Planet Map and can only be found by flying low over the surface looking for blue zones highlighted on your ships radar which highlights possible areas of points of interest and then getting in your SRV buggy and having a look around using the audible signals of the SRV scanner. I think settlements come over as a sort of dull grinding noise. I take this as a game mechanic to promote surface exploration.

Ah, this might have been it. I did a scan but only a basic one......I cancelled the missions but will check again tomorrow.

Yep, happened to me. Buying exploration data didn't work (it didn't reveal any extra bodies) so I had to outfit an advanced scanner and scan the system myself. I didn't need to fly to each planet though to search for stations; as soon as I did the jump onto the system and did the advanced scan it showed the ground port in the list of ports on the system map. I then just flew to that undiscovered planet and jobs-a-good'un.

That's because you paid for an advanced scanner ;). Most people will have a basic or intermediate scanner, in which case after an initial scan inside the system they will need to fly to any discovered unknown planets and do a targetted scan to reveal the settlement details.

Yeah, but you need the advanced scanner in order to uncover any bodies further than 1000 l/s out. The planet (and ground port) I needed was further out than that. An intermediate would have been useless for me.

You just fly closer and do a targetted scan surely or you mean the initial scan when in the system doesnt scan that far away? Ah the limitations of the scanners are as follows:

  • The Basic Discovery Scanner will find all astronomical objects within 500 LS when triggered. It comes fitted as standard but costs 1,000 CR to replace.
  • The Intermediate Discovery Scanner will find all astronomical objects within 1,000 LS when triggered. It costs ~500,000 CR.
  • The Advanced Discovery Scanner will find all astronomical objects within the star system when triggered. It costs ~1,500,000 CR.

Yep, the initial scan. The different scanners only reveal bodies within their range capability. Only the advanced will reveal all bodies in a system during the initial scan.

Basic is up to 500 ls, and intermediate is 100 ls, I think. EDIT: just noticed your edit with the official distances, cool.

Just tested it out, so the initial scan of the system using a discovery scanner within range of the undiscovered planet will reveal the planet with the Mission marker highlighting the correct planet on the System Map, clicking on the planet will show you the planet view with the base name and location. You don't need to do a targetted scan of all the System bodies if you do not want to.

Purchasing the exploration data for the system did not reveal the planets for me, I had to go to the System and run the scanner. Is this expected? No idea!

Sure you didnt buy trade data instead of system data? If you use the ADS or buy system data the planet should be revealed.
