Horizons Planetary flight question

I'm just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything.

So I'm approaching a planet and enter orbital cruise. From what I understand there is supposed to be some sort of "glide" mode that lets you quickly get from OC to the planets surface, but if there is sucha thing I can't figure out how to engage it.

As it is right now I'm flying in OC and then when I get to close it drops me to regular engines where it doesn't feel like I can even go anywhere>

So I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Helps

Are you approaching at too steep an angle or too fast? either one of those and it will just drop you out without the glide.

Just to check, the planet that you are approaching does it have a blue line around it, if it doesn't you can't land on it.

Its definitely a planet I can land on. There is a little drop indicator and whenever I get to that altitude it drops my out of OC. This seems to happen even going minimal speeds with only a -5 degree angle. Am I correct in my previous post that there is some sort of glide mode for the transition from OC to the planets surface?

Yeah, if you are coming in at a reasonable speed and angle, at 25 KM altitude it turns into a glide. It's signalled by blue "Glide" text. And the audio sounds like the engines have cut out and you are free flying. You should be able to get about 15 seconds of glide.

So after watching some videos it is behaving as if my planetary approach module isn't installed so I'm guessing I may be running into a bug but I'm not really sure. I just ran back to outfitting to ensure it's installed and it is.

For whatever reason it's not letting me go below 110km.

I threw this together to demonstrate how to enter the different transitions. I could have explained it better but that would result in a longer video. A couple numbers to keep in mind. In order to make the transition between orbital cruise and glide make sure your angle of descent is between -15 and -60. Any higher or lower than those numbers means you'll skip the glide and drop directly to normal space.

Yeah, tried it that way and it' still behaving like I don't have the approach module.

Here's a screenshot of my dropout distance being all the way up at 436km where it then boots me into normal flight regardless of approach speed or angle.

So, is this a bug that I should report or am I just being dumb about something?

It's not a bug, you're running Elite Dangerous 1.5.

You need to be running Horizons 2.0.

Ah thanks, I guess I missed that horizons would be a completely separate install rather that just the update I received through steam. Though that was never made very clear.

Shouldn't be a problem, go into you elite folder in steam and run the launcher EDlaunch is start blue and horizons will be available to play

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous
