Horizons Great performance on old hardware - Thanks Frontier!

I've been getting > 30 fps (35 fps to 40 fps typical) at 1600x1200 resolution on the planet surface with a GTX460 (1GB), AMD Phenom II 965, 4 GB Ram, all about 5 yrs old, using whatever default settings ED chose for me.

I believe this is below the minimum requirements but is very playable, so great job Frontier!

Much appreciated.

Running on a 6 year old iMac. HD 6970M graphics.

Running on mostly low/medium setting and limiting to 30 FPS, never drops below the limit.
Higher frame rate is just wasted heat in you GPU IMHO.
2560x1440 with 0.75 super sampling. Looks fantastic.

Excellent

I'm on a Geforce 770 2GB at 1080p here and I'm struggling to get 30fps on a planet driving around with everything set to low. The game had set everything to ultra for me so I'm not sure if it's a bug / driver problem. Running on a i7 2600k, 16GB RAM and SSD.

Same here! :D Frankly I think some of the merit goes to the GTX460, it's really a great card. Used it to play The Witcher 3 as well with decent settings even though it's way below the minimum.

I didn't get back to the surface yet in Horizons, I still had some occasional lowrez texture issues in the last beta, but I'm able to play with Ultra settings except AO, SS and terrain which is set to High.

Setting all terrain quality parameters to low and I'm getting roughly 45 fps. Like what I expected.
Setting everything to ultra and it goes down to 18. :D
But I'm happy as long as they don't nerf the graphics.

The release version runs a lot better than the Betas did (though I didn't try the last one).

Plus - anti-aliasing seems to be finally working again?!? Everything looks better - on a machine that's well below min spec! (Though I haven't visited a planet surface yet).

I'm running integrated graphics. Was running medium to high settings in 1.4.. Game won't even launch in 2.0. Just get massive spikes in CPU while loading the menu screen causing freezes etc. I was half expecting some petformance issues, but I was expecting to get past the menu screen at least.

Interesting. I was getting 50 fps on planets and over 60 fps approaching planets in beta. Release I am getting stuttering at dips into low 40's approaching and 40-45 fps on planets. Same 1440P at ultra settings and super sampling in both beta and release.

I'm running on a AMD A10-7300 notebook APU and the game runs fine FPSwise, but planetary surfaces looked truly awful - sort of 8bit or MSPaint. Help!

Edit: Now it looks amazing. I don't know what changed - Thank you, FDev!

GT 640M 2GB here, in space and everything else non-Horizons, I'm getting 30-40 FPS on medium settings. If I turn my settings down to the lowest possible and start approaching or fly over a planet's surface though, I'm getting 15-20 FPS, and when I'm driving the SRV I'm getting <10... :(

GTX560 Twin Frozr II 1GB everything set on High, 30 FPS on planet surfaces, i can totally cope with that! (much better than 9-17 the betas gave! like playing in strobe lighting)

One of the things I am continually grateful to FD for is that they provide the graphics options to run it well on cheap old hardware.
Thanks FD. :)

I'm getting 40 fps on surface with an overclocked GTX760, high settings :)
I was prepared to a slideshow, I'm happy it is playable. One day, one day I'll upgrade my GPU *shakes fist*

Im on GT9500, Dual core 2.7ghz, 3go RAM. "YOU CANNOT RUN ELITE DANGEROUS HORIZONS". Elite is about 20-45fps on my computer if i unlock the fps limit...

Hi Rongoth,

i have almost the same system specs. I7-2600k @stock, GTX 770 2GB, 8 GB Ram everything on SSDs. I run via Win7 x64 @ 1920x1080 @max settings. On planets i get around 40 fps. Sometimes a bit more or less but no drop below 30 fps.

Don´t know if you are an expericend pc user but check all your drivers. Update windows. Check your SSD. Clean your Hardware (perhaps termal problems that reduces your overall speed). Check your BIOS settings and so on.

I hope this helps a bit. Otherwise just write me via PM. There is always a solution.

I've got a GT630M 2GB in my laptop and I'm getting better performance than that (though I have dropped SS to 0.85). Shadows and AO are killers so I've switched both of those off - this is a vid I took in Beta 5, though now I've popped a few of the settings up a wee bit and still get decent performance:

Running an old dual core 3 ghz, 4gigs of ddr2 ram and a 760gtx 2gb video card. Plays smooth on Ultra at 40-60fps. Using Windows 7 x64.

Im getting 30 - 50 fps on planets with gtx760 hawok, 8gb ram, and some i5. Running everything on ultra, execpt i had to lower terrain details to high, maybe will lower it even more.

Already ordered gtx970...........because elite :D.
