Horizons 4 hours of surface missions = 0 completed

Alright so....

Started with the ''Salvage'' missions, took 3-4 different ones. Ran around in the SRV inside the blue zones for 2 hours without finding anything but rocks. Timer ran out. No pods, no survivor, no nothing - just rocks.

Then I decided to try the ''destroy the generator'' missions, seeing as I had like 4 of em asking me to gib the same generator.
I finally get there ( which takes forever in the SRV cause you can't land too close to the guarded base otherwise they just shoot you down ) only to get there and not even find the said generator.
____load of turrets and sentries though. (Also a Goliath sentry which I've never been able to kill so far.)

This also got me a 10k bounty on me head seeing as you need to kill stuff to get the mission done..
yay.

Then I figured I'd try a ''Data retrieval'' mission.
I finally find the damn thing and could never actually activate anything. It just won't scan. (Yes, it's in a fire group)

"/%$& is this?

maybe you punched above your weight? I've cleared out zones with goliath skimmers in a cobra without much effort. Maybe play the game a bit more and upgrade your ship before attempting these (i've had it backfire once where i cleared the area and landed INSIDE the base after). Elite does make it possible for you to "out level" yourself like an RPG and then accept missions too hard for your current ship.

I only did a couple of deliver scrap to a surface installation missions (both the same destination) - was surprised at just how basic the mission was and disappointed by the washed-out white planet. Getting the glide entry seemed to be the key to these ones I did. You obviously have that off pat already.

You guys mean you're clearing these stupid bases with your ships?
I thought we were supposed to clear em with the damn srv..

Even then don't know how I could get close enough to shoot anything seeing as the defense turrets go through a 600 mj shield in like 5 seconds. (Imp courier)

Oh well. F them surface missions, just going to gather rocks I guess.

there's some pretty nasty "Anti-Ship" turrets on some buildings. But they won't fire on the SRV. And some stuff can only be destroyed by the SRV and not with ship weapons. It gets confusing pretty quickly.

Does the bounty clear off if you complete the base missions at all? I got 10k on my head from just firing on these things - shows a week. ( It's in my PP hq system too... )

Something I figured out tonight ... when you're doing the salvage missions, if you skim over the surface in our ship, look out for a flashing white dot on the ground, that can be an indicator of where the salvage is. It's how I found it for a salvage mission I just completed. Another reason why I'm peeved over the CObra 4's slow speed, the Mk3 is much better for planet skimming.

Guess I'm wanted but just on that planet..
It sure as hell does not make sense though. If I was to complete the mission (kill generator), I woulda been wanted anyway and I would've gotten shot before I could even turn it in. The mission giver was the same faction..

Zzzz.

To use the data scanner change your settings to "Firing deploys hardpoints" the scanner doesnt deploy if you deploy guns manually. After you changed that setting drive close to datalink until it activates, then use turret to aim at it and "shoot" with data scanner.

It is a known bug.

Thanks! I'll try that next time.

Many planet missions are there to have more of a difficult search flavour to them.

When you use the SRV scanner man made objects produce a very different tone to the collectable rocks. Ignore the rock signals. Look and listen to some youtube videos that go through this.

When in the blue zone on a specific mission make sure you go toward the right type of audio tone and ignore the rest. The scanner has quite a range so don't need to drive around every inch. There is usually more than one blue zone near to each other so summon your ship and fly to next one.
