Steam VR Win 10 direct to rift working

OK

got it working head tracking 3d fov the lot.

latest windows 10 and GPU drivers and .8.0 runtime

start Normal SteamVR (no beta) then start elite dangerous launcher in steam and run 32bit elite

go to graphics... now mine was set 1440p (normal monitor)

just go to the setting "3D" then select HMD (headphones) here: http://prntscr.com/9eoaqi

it should be direct to rift then

may take a little fiddling with your current res and/or I did choose... side by side... apply... then HMD (headphones)... apply

watch the little red writing underneath Ready in steam vr then it has lost sync

WARNING
crashed my ship as the contrlls were all messed up had to change it to XBONE controller (first time in horizons)

I got it working by starting the game using 'Launch in VR mode' in steam.

Go to options under graphics. Under 3D Select HMD. Started working for me. Was 64bit.

Same here! Added Horizons to Steam with the code from the frontier account page, installed, launched, saw the "Launch in VR" option, freaked out with happy, got into the game immediately through SteamVR, tweaked the refresh rate to 75hz (my monitor is limited to 60, and the menu was very jumpy until I did that) and then... enjoyed!

I did have to remap my HMD Realign key, it had defaulted back to F12, but otherwise it was SO nice not to have to faff around with switchers.

I know this is probably a tough one to answer with all the different variables, but any feedback on how performance compares between using the 0.5 SDK and using steamvr+0.8?

Happy to upgrade to windows 10 if it grabs my a few extra fps.

In my PC (Windows 10, i7 5820K @ 3.8GHz, GTX 980 Ti G1, 16 Gb RAM) it works better with 0.5 SDK.
And I get a little white flash every 5 seconds or so with steamvr-0.8.
The good things are that I hadn't to change resolution nor refresh rate in my monitor (1400x900 @ 60 Hz) I could set ED at 75 Hz and the resolution seemed fine.
But with 0.8 I can't get more GPU usage than 80% no matter what settings, the judder appears and the GPU is not working at 100%.

So in my system, it is better 0.5 SDK, and it only takes one double-click in the SDK switcher.
