UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Something in Merope is both obvious and logical, so it ain't gonna happen. When was the last time the ua mystery was obvious or logical?
However science forces us to rule it out via experimentation

Absolutely, though Merope is of relevance to the UAs as they are all pointing towards it, so that's a clue that there is significant information on them/their behaviour to be found at Merope. But I agree, it's likely only to be another crumb in the trail... that's what makes it fun!

People are finding various materials on the surface- so do we take the UA to the surface to conduct the testing, or do we (sorry that's a "we" as part of the Canonn- I'm still stuck about 400 ly away trying to gain funds & equipment) gather materials on the surface & take them up to the UAs? I suspect we need to take materials up to try them with the free-floaters & then also add them to ship cargo to ascertain which will reduce/prevent the ship corrosion/damage effect. That should narrow down the range of options to try before taking likely candidates to affected stations.

I can see the creators of this trailer sweating while we pick apart this 1 second piece of video bit by bit. Let's just hope there was no artistic freedom involved in creating this

That's a point - is there one of those click-bait 'breaking down the X trailer bit by bit' videos, like you get with movies?

I really love those :/

And there is this bit:
CaptureStructure.PNG

It looks so much like the plate on both sides of the UA head. I would love to see that in better resolution. :)

That's probably a good idea !

I managed to get some material for refuel on 1A in about 45 minutes. Other than that, the part I looked at was unremarkable - but I didn't look at a huge amount :)

I was at Kausalya when I logged in and got them there

Rocks are, quite literally, *hard* science :)

That's the thing: even if nothing is found, at least we've all had a directed joint effort in one place to have a go at and all become acquainted with our wheels - not to mention strategies for scouring planets etc.

When I think about the number of planets that were available for landing just while I was on my way from Kausalya to Merope, though - it's a bewilderingly huge task! Should keep us busy!

Seems like Canonn needs to set up a database of the planets that have been searched & the materials/items found - needs a multiple pass approach to ensure full coverage of each planet. Be a shame to bypass finds because the scanner indication wasn't spotted

So is the best way to help out at Merope to jump on the Canonn TS and ask there? I am planning on heading out there for a scouting trip soon, but not sure what I should be focusing on.

Assuming you've joined the site (http://Canonn.science - and, yes if you have MalwareBytes it moans - but don't worry, it's the domain name it doesn't like) the details are there.

I saw quite a few CMDRs last night just in game, and the TS was very busy.

In the trailer seconds before the 'alien sequence' starts, there are two SRVs driving past what looks like a T9 crash site. The sky is Nebula red.

Not all T9s carry UAs, but all UAs are carried by T9s.

If these scenes are somehow connected, which means that the T9 fell near the "Temple", and it ("Temple") can somehow attract attention to itself (Perhaps with special signals. That's where we need the "Eye" program.)
Maybe we can even determine the desired planet from orbit (most likely with the help of UA).

Thats a full tank (well 85%) of gas used up on Merope 1C - Nothing of interest, although at one time I had 5 POI all visible on my radar

Data downloaded, landing gear is locked and engines spooling up, I fly in 5....unfortunately no SRV training course so I'm going to get a crash course in that once I get into outfitting.

Seen this thing?

"Large Barnacles"

Simpleeye spotted it in this thread : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=212809

The structure seen in the trailer video could be described as roughly barnacle shaped?

COMMON in certain parts of the galaxy. Valued at 91,445 credits.

Which parts of the galaxy, and why! :)

Check previous page.;)

It's been on the radar since beta and where and why are certainly important questions.

Well it was an enjoyable planetary romp last night with a good number of commanders on Merope 5A. Not much was found, but pictures were taken and it was great to see the swarm of SRV lights from above as Merope herself lit the very tops of the mountains near where we were, and the rest of the terrain bathed in dark red, and the sky a brighter red from the Nebula. It felt like a very alien place indeed.

Tonight I will start searching properly.

Great stuff :)

Recordings of UA on surface of Merope 5a for the sound boffins to work out

1) By SRV and Ship
2) By SRV only
3) By ship only
4) By ship until decay

UA did not orientate on the surface

Ah well, I'll settle for that and possibly a little bit of +rep if you feel like it's deserved.

I had to use Vimeo in the end. You can see a video of the Cutter scan here: https://vimeo.com/149092069

I'm a little busy at work, so I will analyze these recordings soon(TM).
News will follow...

You can''t jettison material, they just disappear if you discard them. What I did notice, is that when loaded with a lot of materials, the speed of damage on your ship by the UA was decreased, compared to a ship with no material.

bistorm is thinking and asking the same things I am. :)
Simpleye posted to my thread from yesterday about the "temple" (Is that what we're going with as a general name for the structure?)
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=211778&p=3266010&viewfull=1#post3266010

That linked to the thread bitstorm mentioned.

Meta-alloys cannot be manfactured. They're formed organically. They have a foam/lattice structure.
recently discovered alien entities nicknamed 'Large Barnacles' by interstellar explorers
This could refer to UAs. It could refer to those spiky structures in the video clip near the temple.
Either way, Meta-alloys are the new hot item in our search.

Common in parts of the galaxy... could be anywhere without any further clues or indicators. Right now the only locations of interest we have are the Merope shell and UAs pointing at Merope.
Exciting though! Fresh start, Fresh perspective. :)

That's REALLY INTERESTING: more tests needed! All CMDRs please report on the subject! Could try to jettisons materials one by one to isolate the possible cause?

BTW the problem is that, even if we find a material is reducing UA damage, we cannot sell them to any station, at least for now.

This is what I wanted to hear. Which materials and how long was the damage cycle?

Standard is 30 sec.
