Well now I'm really, REALLY ticked off.

Not a troll, it's just something I take seriously in my gameplay. I'm a trader and explorer. I don't violate the laws, I don't enter combat if I can avoid it, and I don't violate the laws! I can't STAND having a blot like this on my record, even if it's just 100cr. It's like having a splinter in my shoe, it's a trivial thing that's causing me great pain.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it. Simply learn from your mistake and move on. The fines in the game are there to keep the unscrupulous at bay and in check, it's the core of a civilized society.

If you really want to roleplay a law-abiding citizen, I'd have to suggest you've picked the wrong universe to do it in. Elite Laws and law enforcement are arbitary, unjust, and often just plain stupid - it only makes sense if you assume that the Feds are in it for personal gain, and you aren't paying a fine for criminality, you are making a forced donation to the 'police benevolent fund'. As to the extent to which this is intentional on the developers' part (and perhaps a commentary on the real world) rather than simply being easier to code than a system which attempted to be fair, I suspect opinions may differ. Either way, being mugged by law enforcement at some point is more or less inevitable. Don't hold yourself responsible for the corruptedness of the system...

After spending months carefully avoiding doing ANYTHING to get a fine, I'm out driving around a moon and shoot a rock for the minerals and BAM, 100cr fine for being in a no fire zone (for which there is no indicator).

13 million credits and months of exploring, and now I have to delete and restart.

There needs to be a damn indicator when you're in a location that will incur fines, and I don't just mean a little warning in the chat window. There needs to be something on the HUD.

Well, if you want to impose that harshness upon yourself, you can.
But take a deep breath first. Walk away and come back.
Its Ok, its not that bad.
You didn't kill anyone.

I can only imagine the crisis the OP is going to have if he ever does kill someone in-game.

I get what you are saying, but you don't go performing seppuku if you get a parking ticket. You just live and learn. As you said, it's a trivial thing. And unlike a splinter actually in your shoe causing pain, you have manifested this all in your own head.

Don't Panic.

Which therapist knows about this? Hopefully all of them. But I hope they tell you how much its not worth deleting. and starting over. Life cant be deleted and started over. Just keep on truckin blue! And swimming. Life is a bunch of chocolates, you never know what fine you will get. Failure is not an option, but it does happen. Ive ran out... Godspeed

Sorry, but if you can just reset your game and pretend you're a purist because you have no fines, how pure are you, really? What you are actually doing is pretending you have no fines and clearing the ledger at a much higher price.

So, let me get this straight- just to be clear on this:

You have a strict policy about not breaking any laws or rules.

You incurred a fine.

You then took drastic measures to remove yourself from any accountability or responsibility for that misstep.

In effect, you ran and disappeared to get out of showing up redfaced and paying a darn misfire ticket.

That's.. more criminal and irreprehensible (some may say childish) in a meta sense than anything else. Clearing a save and months of gameplay will NOT negate that flaw in character.

.. just sayin. ;)

oh, and upon next restart- the moment you see "speeding" in the right side of the dash, we will expect another clear save.

Because speeding in a docking zone is a crime, even if they do not fine you, nor press charges. YOU know you did it, and THEY knew you did it.

Think about the real life equivalent. You parked your car in a no parking zone, because it wasn't marked as such. Upon returning you see the scrap of paper telling you that you've been fined. Having made it your principle in life to never ever receive a fine, you shoot yourself on the spot.

That doesn't quiet sound right, does it? Why would you never ever want to brake a human made rule? How do you know such rules are sensible? What if whoever imposes the rule does not communicate it? There is always a chance of breaking a rule because you didn't know there was one in the first place. Not exactly something to end your virtual or real life for.

Op, I'm concerned about your well being.

Note the suicide hotline for where you live just in case you unintentionally get fined for something you are not aware of in real life.

I can agree that a more visible warning would be nice, but still...

Good luck on your game restart. I think people here are just having a bit of fun at your expense. Many people play the game with their own set of rules, it's one of the games strengths that people can do that.
I hope you have better luck this time.

Hm, feeling more ticked off.

I had decided to just pay the fine and carry on. Set my course to the unknown and started flying. Got through about 3/4 of my fuel and slipped into solar orbit to refuel... and nothing. No fuel scooping.

SO, I checked my systems and found I no longer have a fuel scoop. Apparently, it was removed to make room for the landing suite. So now my rather expensive T6 explorer with a cargo of painite and platinum is more or less marooned in the middle of nowhere.
