the subject has come up in the past and the general opinion was they would make the galaxy too small.
i've not seen anything from FD saying they won't be in the game (it might be buried in the DDF archive if there is), but then again i've seen nothing saying they will.
in a nutshell the conclusion was that if wormholes can be created or used in the game why are we bothering with hyperspace drives? as such most people expressed the opinion that wormholes are not 'Elite' enough to be included.

I'd be ok with random ones with limited timespans. Explorer types then have a dilemna of being prepped enough to travel it.
yea i'd go with that, would want them to be very risky to use though say 50/50 chance of death
agreed, a ST Voyager type scenario(or alternates), standard credits might not be taken by any traders on the route home requiring you to barter goods only for repairs. player kitted out for combat might have to turn to piracy to get home(if they were more pve oriented and not a pirate anyway) etcGo through a wormhole. Takes you to other side of galaxy. And then it literally collapses right behind you. leaving you stuck.
Thatd be interesting.
Just wondering if there was any discussion of having wormholes in the game (as an alternative to (in conjunction with) hyperspace travel?
- Sorry, Stargate & farscape fan!
OK, forgot to mention I'm also an Andromeda fan...
- It's been too long since I've watched (maybe I need to break-out the DVDs).
Was thinking wormhole stuff could be more like (can't recall the term) slipstream? - Something that takes skill to navigate (successfully) otherwise you get dropped-out at a random location (on a navigation error)...
Can't recall if slipstream was used for travel within the galaxy (or to another one). Wow, how expansive could the elite world get?
Your thoughts?
not by the wormhole itself i hope? imo it should be easy to traverse but the risk is not getting back the same way.

maybe an artificial mechanic to limit wormhole distance to just beyond the present(in game at any given time) frontier, so if it's 70 'star' jumps to the frontier it would maybe drop you at 100 jumps.
the exploration 'credits for unknown hyperspace routes' and bonus for first travellers would be for 20-30 systems. maybe a bonus for wormhole data too, would be not insubstantial .............. if you make it back.
I'm expecting no wormholes at release, then probably one or two stable ones to turn up later, in expansions, as a McGuffin to get us to the LMC and other Milky Way satellites.
Maybe as a function of Sagitarius A*..?
I'd be happy to see wormholes in the game.
Reminds me of the whole Ds9 concept, there could be anything on the other side, trade opportunities, enemy factions, etc etc.
