I think bitstorm found the fixed POI for the scavenger hunt in orbital cruise

Really? And how it shows in the scanner together with planets and stars all around you, while the planet you are orbiting is still showing as a small sphere?
Bitstorm? I'm really interested... because if it's true, than we could perhaps spot the barnacles from OC, assuming them being fixed POIs, even without approaching too much.

An experiment i don't know if anyone has tested but my train of thought is this.. Merope is special....this planet 3a in merope seems special....the mystery is open to all to solve not just buggy drivers....take the UA to planet 3a and drop it off as low as possible...observe as thargoid base reveals itself.

Probably been tried apologies if i missed it.

from what i remembered, it was marked as "unexplored" on his hud. I could be wrong though, hopefully bit can clear this up :)

Just a question but has anyone seen a data point quite like this one?:

I'm also of this opinion. Most probably that green "barnacles" are a POI to be found somewhere, in certain region of space and having picked up the Meta-Alloys mission. I'm trying to get that mission first, and after that I'll be visiting as many POI as I can in as many different worlds and space regions as possible in the amount of time given to fulfill the mission.

Ugh god yes. =(

Of course ED mechanics. You take out a mission and all of a sudden things auto-spawn. =((

I really hope that's not how large barnacles / meta-alloys work, that they are "unfindable" until you take out the mission then they're easy to find anywhere.

I was hoping there would indeed be some mystery to be solved by finding an area that has "large barnacles" and then trying to theorize on why these specific areas. ie another piece of the puzzle.

Meta-alloys have a complex lattice structure with large internal voids. They are cellular in nature, and formed organically. They are incredibly strong - much stronger than foamed aluminium for example. Many elements form the structure so technically they are alloys, but the composition is different in different parts of the cell walls for strength. They are good thermal insulators, and have a high melting point, but if they are melted they lose all their special properties and become a conventional alloy. They are easily machined, but as yet cannot be manufactured, only found in space. They are associated with recently discovered alien entities nicknamed 'Large Barnacles' by interstellar explorers. These appear to be common in certain parts of space, although no-one is certain why. This material has been heralded as the next step in materials technology. It is ultra-light and stronger and more versatile than most commercially available alloys.

Well there was no POI, no blue circle anyway.

The crashed T9 was spotted while in conventional flight not orbital cruise, just a big black thing down there sort of thing.

Interesting that it didnt show an blue POI.
Curious, did the t9 look like the one in the trailer?

Interesting that it points to that star. (Sorry couldnt listen to the audio).

Yeah actually now you mention it, exactly the same, same 45 degree to the right angle, same front right bit stuck in the ground....

But I think the CG T9 having no blue circle style POI is just because the mechanism for adding a permanent structure is likely different to POIs. Like the crashed T9 I've never seen one inside a blue POI so I presume they are more akin to things like settlements that Frontier just add and remove as need be. I dunno maybe you could say that is a bug, maybe it's even been fixed this lack of blue POI circle was from the beta.

The T9s appearance in the trailer I'm not sure I see it as actually linked to the large barnacles in any way, just it's prior to them just for cinematic effect. Could be wrong though.

its probably a bug but i was semi afk in my ship on a planet near merope after roving it for a hour or so, and out of the corner of my eye i saw an flickering contact out of radar range.
it is a sentry drone flying a couple hundred meters off the ground going in what seems like a big circle.

Stupid Idea # [-pi]

Has anyone done a manual deep system sector scan of Merope- similar to hunting down Voyager 1 in Sol?

(line up on galactic plane, rotate90 deg, pitch up 360 degrees. yaw left 5 deg, pitch up 360 eg, repeat- using galaxy as reference point)

Maybe there is something out in deep system edges that is targetable if the HUD point is pointing in jusssst the right direction....

Good idea. Maybe a special signal sources spawn at a certain distance from the star.

Right...currently stuck in dry dock and going a bit stir-crazy not being able to get back out into the void right now so giving this all too much thought...I'm certain the meta alloys mission is a hint in the right direction; which one I'm not sure of.

"They are associated with"... (barnacles) aka UA... which are "common in certain parts of space" (UA shell or Merope)...

Adopting this mission and exploring these areas is my next objective...if I can only extricate myself from this station bar...

What's your reasoning behind thinking "barnacles" means the UAs?

Merope 3 A is not special at all. There are similar moons which are not landable in (for example) Sol, 49 Arietis, and 64 Arietis.
