Exactly my point. I've seen a few posts already that mention the "barnacles in the Horizons trailer". When in fact we have:
Two separate things as far as we know, so we should probably stop getting them mixed up or people are going to make the wrong assumptions. Like finding the structures and then waste time throwing meta-alloys at them to see if something happens. We have all recently seen how much some people hate to be sent down the wrong line of investigation.
- Something called "Large Barnacles" in the meta-alloys description.
- Large mysterious structures with green-glowing patterns in the trailer.
It's science dammit, let's do it properly!![]()
Ah now... does that mean that we have to dump previous POI search results and start over? Back to Merope/Maia everyone!
Results of thesis test codename artefact at b1
Yesterday It was proposed by a cannon member that there may be good reason to conclude that the black hole (hereafter referred to as the possible artefact) in Maia may in fact not be a natural phenomena.
The reasons given for this hypothesis are: Black holes form when a star of over 20 stellar masses collapse catastophicaly resulting in the formation of a spherical event horizon.
The anomaly in Maia can not be a natural black hole as its mass is quoted as being just 2.6 stellar masses! this is far too small, by a factor of ten for the possible artefact to be a natural event horizon.
To this effect 2 brave Commanders: Commander Kicks (first UA transport) and Commander Mellam) flew 2 artifacts out to Maia to observe thier behaviour at the horizon.
many exiting malfunctions and adventures later they succeeded in bringing an UA to the black hole and actually inserting it bellow the restriction boundary of the hole.
unfortunately nothing as yet unknown was observed in the behaviour of the artefact durring the experiment.
However we can conclude that this strange and improbable "black hole" may well be an artificial construct and hence worthy of more debate and study in the long term.
To this end I urge all commanders with a curiosity for this system and Merope next door and the connection to the UA phenomena to help with the Dahan community goal so we can get a well provisioned moon side base in the system to aid Professor Palin in his studies.
Thankyou all for your support and atention commanders and a special thanks to commanders Kicks and Mellam for aiding in this experimental session.
No. It only means that mere POIs (the content, not the blue circle) will be visible from the ship. Not only from SRV.
At the beginning of the beta, no POIs were visible until you entered the SRV. This was to avoid that people shot all the skimmers before landing. It was changed because it felt very strange that buildings popped up just because you entered the SRV.
Only very small POIs should now be invisible from the ship.
I have started toying with the notion of alignment, particularly alignment between Merope, Maia B, Maia B1 and Maia B1BA. So far nothing of note, but might be something worth investigating further.... I don't know enough about intersteller mechanics to guess at how Maia and Merope might move in relation to each other - do they? If not there is still the orbit of Maia B1.
Is there a point where Merope will be eclipsed (or should that be lensed) by Maia B, as seen from B1? Not sure WHY that should have any relevence, but I do think there might be something to a lensing effect with regards to Merope and "some other point"...

Is a POI can appear without the blue circle ?
Yesterday I landed at a random location and I detected and found a POI nearby. Does it happen to someone else or I missed the blue circle ?
3) ...where next?

Yes I know but after taking off I checked at 2km and no blue circle... Maybe smallest POI are hidden from ship sensor ?You have to be 2km above the surface to see a blue POI in your ship scanner. If you're flying close to the ground you won't be able to see them.
(I'm the person who got the 'find meta-alloys' mission)
Someone upthread (can't remember who) suggested that given meta-alloys are supposedly only found in certain areas of the galaxy, a good approach to find them would be to spend a few hours each on planets in a bunch of different places and see if anything turns up. Given that, does anyone have any ideas for target search areas.
My current list is as follows:
1) Merope (done)
2) UA shell (done)
3) ...where next?
OK CMDRS.
I'm doing this just because far are the days when people did not get discomforted so easy, days where 100 and more hours of searching were needed to spot an UA Convoy for the first time.
So here you are: the Barnacles POI are in game 100% sure. I don't now where, obviously, but I know they are in game, and in many different configurations.
So please stop complaining and keep on searching
They will show up eventually, like any other thing in game so far.
And if we fail, hints will come in the form of cryptic Galnet posts.![]()
Maybe its Lupus.
It's never lupus.
