Configuring Elite Controller

I keep hitting the wrong paddles by mistake so took them off and now use it as a very robust and very expensive standard controller.
Might have a try with just 2 paddles on for the throttle and brakes next time if I can be bothered.

This is what I am afraid of. I don't own one, yet. I would like to hold one first to see where my fingers naturally land on the backside of the controller.

I'm just waiting for when xbox will have the right software to support a HOTAS without using a 3rd party system, lol.

I mostly have 2 paddles fitted, occasionally 3. I was finding it uncomfortable to hold with all 4 fitted (I grip the left hand side quite firmly it seems). I'm sure some other people will be fine with all 4 fitted.

I enjoy using the controller I really just want the extra buttons to map other controls too. What about linking a keyboard or something?

You don't get extra buttons with the elite controller. keep that in mind. All you can do is remap the current controls. But you can't map say Y+Up or things like that. or a whole new button to yaw. You just move teh current setup around.

I don't have an Elite controller, but I do have a hard enough time with controlling my throttle while firing so I would probably use the paddles for throttle control.

There are buttons on the back of the controller right? What are those for? XB website says there are 14 inputs on the controller now that can be mapped.

They're for remapping.

So like I said above, I have a problem with holding down a trigger with my index finger WHILE using that same finger to adjust my speed. On an Elite controller you can remap the controller so that throttle is underneath on a paddle, meaning I could use my index finger for shooting while using my middle finger for throttle.

It's the same concept in FPS's where you can remap your jump allowing you to shoot/Jump/strafe all at the same time.

They're not NEW buttons, or macro's.. they're just extra remap-able buttons.

This is completely wrong. Sorry. The controller has paddles on the back that you can map controls to. I've even taken my time to upload a picture of the backside of the controller showing this to you.

I think throttle control on the paddles would be extremely helpful. I, too, have a hard time shooting and changing throttle during combat.

This is NOT completely wrong. In fact, he's completely right.

The paddles act as remappable buttons NOT new buttons. And Certainly NOT as macros. You can only map to them what you can can currently map to a default controller without gaining any extra buttons to push.

So like.. think of the paddles as an additional "Y" or "RB" not an additional control for your landing gear or whatever.

Make sense?

I guess terminology here is what's messing things up. They ARE new buttons(inputs) on the controller. They ARE extra buttons(inputs). That's what I'm getting at. The other post says they are not extra buttons when, in fact, they are.

Hopefully this clears a few things up.

^ Thank you. I have the controller, not going off forums....

I bought this thinking you can map "NEW" functions into it. Ideally I wanted the paddles to be throttle and yaw, but you can't do that. I have mine mapped so that the LB+RB buttons are now the bottom paddles (throttle) and the left and Right thumbsticks click (when you press down) have been moved to the LB+RB buttons. The top paddles for me are left and right on the d pad (to easily switch between shields and weapons in combat). This set up is GREAT in combat esp in Pvp but it's a nightmare to get used to when navigating the menus.

Even if Frontier decides to do some elite controller support I doubt it will be what I initially wanted. M$ has said they specifically didn't want "extra" buttons or macros on the elite controller. That being said the controller is amazing for the $$

Oh and this is true for all games. Not just elite. I've had the same thing in Halo, NBA 2K, MGS, etc

Exactly. Like I said it was a terminology thing. Because they are new buttons lol. Just not new Macros.

Also, like previous stated, hopefully they will make new macros available to the new buttons.

I think where we're waiting for understanding from you on is the mapability.

Like.. You need to understand that you can assign the paddle as being "RB" You can NOT assign the paddle as "throttle up"

They're not "new buttons" they're existing buttons moved to a different place. Whatever you assign RB to do, the paddle will do it too.

Lol I know this. Like I said I think you need to understand there is a terminology thing going on here. Because they are new buttons, as in, added buttons to the controller. Buttons that were not on the old controller but new, physical, buttons on the elite controller.

You can't map a command directly to these new, physical, buttons. Instead you can only assign a current button such as "B" to "P1", etc.

Hopefully these explanations help you guys understand where the terminology issue lies.

Ive mapped the LB + RB to the lower paddles, and the 'boost' button to the upper left paddle.

The upper right paddle is mapped with the SINGLE button you have to HOLD down while also pressing RB (throttle up) to activate/deactivate Flight Assist on and off.

This way, I can press BOTH right paddles simultaneously to activate Flight Assist toggle. This allows me to keep thumb on right stick & trigger finger on primary fire control while in combat.

That's a great idea with the flight assist.
