Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

I'm chock full of materials now, with 9 basic FSD boosts available and a few AFMU refills, along with SRV fuel and re-arm stuff.

If anyone still needs some stuff and wants to go prospecting tonight, I'll fly along and help if you want :)

The worst that can happen is your arrival point is directly in between a tight binary pair, so stopping does nothing to help you, and you can't get out in time to avoid being destroyed.

I don't know how likely that actually is - I've had some binaries like that where I was dumped out of supercruise shortly after arrival, and the escape vector to get back into FSD took me very close to the second star, so I really was baking, both while the FSD was charging and for the first few seconds afterwards as I accelerated away.

I still don't carry heat-sinks mind you. :)

I just want to say I once appeared touching the second stars SURFACE. It was a very graphically glitched moment and of course I was a bit panicked. But I survived with only 1 or 2% damage here and there. It's not a danger. Really isn't

Also I just landed. I'll be getting to everyone's 120 or so pms over the next week :)

Wouldn't it be nice if "The Missing" will play into this trip somehow :)

ie: If FD have something in mind to make the most out of it, for them and us...

I would agree, except people make MISTAKES, people panic and the heat sink is the last stand you can take against real heat damage (hull and eventual death) ... and not that 1-2+% damage to modules that is most commonly encountered when overheating. I think, and it's just my personal view, that 1.3T (0.12 LY less) is worth taking along in order to avoid that possibility, as small as it might be.

With over 300 in our fleet, we might be creating some of our own missing to add to the already missing. If FD don't do anything they are missing a big opportunity.

What's the cut off date for signing up? I'm thinking about joining up and already have an Asp setup for 33.9ly and 4 shots of level 3 Jumponium.

Greetings again,

I think I've made my mind to try and take a part in the expedition. However it is likely that the beginning of January is going to be quite busy... so I am finishing putting together my starter Asp and will likely start towards the point early. As a very green explorer I could use getting some experience prior the long haul and will hopefully be able to rendezvous with the fleet somewhere along the route in one piece.

With this in mind - am I right that if I reach some place on the open server and then re-log into the private group I will be in the same location? What about the accumulated exploration data?

http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/03A4D...i022i2f.Iw0gMlWbiQ==.Aw18WQ==?bn=Goodbye Kiss - is my intended fit, still in doubts about that heatsink...? I also wonder if I'd like at least some weaponry with me?
I guess I will figure out soon as I am planning to get a cheaper scoop first and making several Robigo runs to get enough cash for a 6A. And then onwards into space. May be will try to collect/scout for some FSD boosts on the way too. :)

Fly safe!
A.

Yesterday night I rolled down a 5km mountain side (not felt straight, rolled down, trying to minimize impact with boost) on an 1.3g planet and Hull went from 80% to 60%. The other incredible thing is the SRV torque. With four pips to engines i was able to climb the mountain almost to the top, driving straight up 70 degrees slopes.

If you absolutly want to see a vid, I have it.

So any of you folks taking Anacondas? I assume you're fitting an addition 16t or 32t fuel tank?

You can move down to a 2A powerplant (from a 3A) if you want that extra 0.1ly distance!

Thanks!
It's an appealing option, but 2A is too weak - I would have to shut down something else besides AFMU to run on it. Like the cargo hatch :)
And I am still sceptical about those 4D thrusters. May have to play with these a bit.

I think I must be weird, because I actually enjoy driving around finding outcrops.

I think its very calming, just cruising around looking for POI's. Almost therapeutic..

I actually run my ASP Explorer on an A2 Powerplant with ease. AMF-unit is the only thing that actually draws any serious amount of power besides thrusters and shields. So if I need to repair something I can either shut off shields or thrusters.

Put shields, thrusters and corgo bay etc priority 5, and AMFU priority 3... Done :)

And A2 powerplant didn't cause any heat issues or anything else odd?

Be cool if all X hundred participants added each other as "Friends". ie: So during the journey you'd see a bunch of green icons heading out across the galaxy in a swarm around you

I'm pretty sure I'm already friends with a lot of the roster, but if anyone wants to add me feel free! Sometimes, when out in the deep, it's comforting to see that yes indeed there are other commanders in space along with you.
