Still not happy! sad face

Hi.

First of the game looks great. I've been following this game From start and was really into it when it released.
however after playing and getting annoyed after a few hours i just gave up. The traveling between stars was just way to boring. and locating enemy's with contract to hard (for a beginner).
Now, i gave it up until yesterday and wanted to get back into it. Even setup my Voiceattack and all. Seeing that Horizon will be released today maybe not the best of times but hey.
For me there wasn't changed that much Traveling is still boring. Landing it something you need to get used to. But what broke it for me now. is that i have the same problems that i had from the start.
After playing for 30 min my sound starts Cracking and game starts Responding less and less even with the setting on recommended and then Turned down to Medium and lower. i had the same problems.

this is a technical problem and will maybe fix or not. But it broke it for me for now.
also i wish they would really do something about that traveling. even other space sims have Faster and better traveling then this. ITS BORING. but hey a lot of threats like this.
There should be much more be going on around space stations. that would be cool. Like police patrolling and scanning ships. Pirates attacking Traders coming. the stations i' ve been so far. There where some ships. if i was lucky. and in between i could see 5 ships @ max but.. still Nothing. Maybe its me and do i expect to much. I was just hopping this game was more. I' m a huge Privateer and Freelancer fan. so my hopes where Those games in This shell. to bad.

There is a lot going on, you have to play the game to learn how to find stuff to do, stations have a lot of traffic but not all stations are crowded with ships, there is police scanning ships almost all the time and sometimes pirates will attack you while you approach the station, however attacking someone near a station is risky so a station is mostly a safe place.
Try to find something you like and make money, upgrade your ship or buy a new one, try to rank up with factions so you get better rewards

Howdy,

I think you are mistaken Horizons was released nearly a week ago, we are already 2 patches beyond that, https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=209366 (15th December!)

Yes travel time etc is due to the fact they've mixed a game with a simulator. They could put everything within 30 seconds of everything else but that'd be terrible for explorers and the long range truckers as well as those wanting realism (Theres quite a few of them :p).

Not sure on sound cracking, haven't heard of it being mentioned a lot as a common bug or anything like that? Is it possible you can record a quick video or something to show people what's up, theres also the report bug function that will allow the Devs to address the problem. Since it may be a specific problem between your hardware/software and the game it may be an odd case that only you and a handful of other people experience it, they can't fix what they' don't know about.

I fully agree that space stations need more done to them, more activity etc. On player activity if you're in open go to a community goal system and see if it's still quiet, I'd honestly bet 50T of gold that chaotic would be a word of choice ;) I do agree it's still got a long way to go but I'd still say there's a hell of a lot of content for the game. Most people on this poll indicate their hours are 200-1000 which is insane value for money considering some story focussed games last 15-20 hours then never get played again: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=216291&highlight=hours

In any case if you have access to horizons the best advice I can give is to leave it a few months and come back, a ton will have changed and you may find yourself re-invigorated to try things you haven't before. In any case I personally find if I don't play for over a week or two I start imagining what I should do next in-game and it pulls me back, guess thats why i'm over 1100 hours in :p

Fugly, you seem new here, so I won't treat you as just another one of the complainers who regularly show up feeling that their precious voice must be heard because they're unhappy.

Because... that's kinda what you've done here.

Your first, and seemingly most important complaint is regarding a technical issue that is purely on your end. This is not something anyone other than you, Google, and Frontier Support can help you with. If you bought the game, and for whatever reason it just will NOT work with your hardware, maybe you can hit up FDev and ask for a refund. I hope that you can find a resolution and learn to appreciate the game more when it's not broken for you. Otherwise, please refrain from bringing your personal problems into these forums. There is a support forum where they might be able to help you.

Then you go into the complaints about "boring" space travel, and mechanics you had hoped would be in the game but aren't (but actually are). Everything you mention as having hoped to see is in this game: pirates, traders, police and scanning. It's not as fleshed out as it could be, but with some imagination and interaction on your end, it's a fun game and the mechanics usually work as intended. Many of us have found hundreds, if not thousands of hours of entertainment from the things you say aren't present in this game.

As for the "boring" space travel... I don't know what to do for you. The game is a space flight simulator, and part of that is having to operate your ship to maneuver it around the galaxy. There's a lot to see, but if all you are doing is clicking on systems and frame-shifting between them without a single thought for the immensity and pure, unbridled SCALE this game has, that's also on you.

If you wanted a fast-paced action game, you should have done your research and realized that this is not always that game. You get out of it what you put into it. Without imagination, and the will to roleplay a bit and sink a few dozen hours into it, you're going to be zipping around large expanses of NOTHING (hey, it is space) in your starter ship, whining about how you didn't expect to have to put work into the experience. Then, you'll be like the multitudes of other negative children who are flooding these forums lately: all complaint, no substance, and unwilling to be reasonable.

Don't be that guy, please. Read up a bit on what you can do to earn some credits, upgrade your ship, find some wingmates, and blast bad guys into atoms. Don't expect that we're going to appreciate your complaints when it's obvious that you've done nothing to help yourself.

Edit: there's also some community-oriented stuff going on in the background of this game that you need to connect yourself with. Community goals, the Galnet, PowerPlay, etc. The game really requires some work and research to involve yourself. It doesn't molly-coddle at all. Please try again, with the mindset that you'd like to make the experience worthwhile.

First Thanks for Replaying.

Now For D rendar. Yes your right I've been complaining, and yes i am new. Not because i just got the game but because i didn't log a lot of hours into it. My biggest problem isn't my hardware. as every hardware/software problem i see i believe that can and or will be fix in time. But sometimes the fixes will be to late.

again i really love the way game looks and combat plays. but it feels to me for a GAME it feels like dead space. Yes i like the realisme. learning to controle your ship and all. but even touching on the realisme you can implement more action into it.
I agree and know there are police and traders going on and some stations you see this more then others. but still its a fraction. Try to see this from a perspective of someone that just gets in to this game. and didn't fly around hours to see all stations.
i have youtube and looked up a lot. most of it i found out like that.

I am not a guy that comes on forums a lot and especially not to complain. i really wanna enjoy this game. but just am missing some fun factors and i don' t believe i am alone in this.
I am not that guy i read up on :):):):).
gonna give you a example of today's play.
Start @ station, Take a Kill contract and plot my route within my contract. "starters" contract. i fly over there and he should be in space somewhere in this sector. I fly around for 2 hours and nothing. only seen 2 ships. both ain't him. This is what i mean. I take a STARTERS contract. because i can's take higher. cant find :):):):). Things for start shouldn't be like this.

@ alex Ya im wrong. didn't really pay to much attention on release date for Horizon and i don't have it yet. Was thinking about it but i put it off for now because of my mixed feelings. was more that i thought it released @ the same time as patch 2.0.0.2.
i dont have any recording software installed so cant really make i vid about this. But it starts with sound cracking right after i leave hyperspace and then the game slowly start becoming unresponsive. even pressing ESC takes about 20 sec to pop up. restarting the game fix things until i jump again.

@mark i've got the latest graphic drivers installed. even uninstalled and tried a older one.

Again i don' t wanna complain altho i do this a bit. I really wanna Enjoy this game and i will give it a couple more try's but because all these things it really hard for me to get in to this. Even Gonna build my own head tracker tomorrow mainly for this. for those interested here is how http://www.free-track.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=3144
I am not a guy to come just on to complain. But more to say my concerns in hope that guys like you can put me right.

again thanks for your reactions

As far as your performance issues, blame your PC. I have a fairly budget PC and I run this game at max settings with a constant 144 FPS... so upgrade your PC. As far as something to do, here is an idea. When you start from a new save, you start in System LHS 3447 or something of that sort. 2 jumps away there is a system called Kremainn, it has 3 High Resource Extraction Sites (HRES) a normal and low RES, perfect for a newcomer to get into some bounty hunting, heck I'll even take you under my wing and show you how to get some good bounties. Hop into a LRES be patient, time your attacks and make a million an hour, 2 when you get a better ship and get decent at it and hop to HRES, 3 mill when you get an even better ship and get even better at it. 4-8 million an hour if you choose a powerplay faction that offers bonus to bounties and reach rank 2 then 5 (5 the highest bounties).

Hi again,
I'm currently watching the live-stream so had a bit of time to do a bit of searching. There was a crackling bug near stations back in 1.1 but that was supposedly fixed.

Some suggestions from reading threads:
Go into audio settings and mute different options (music/effects etc), to see if crackling is specific to one of those.
Check your audio quality isn't set to an odd value like 99.2Khz.
Try playing without Vsync (or with if it's currently off)
Change framerate limit to see if that changes it
If you are using hyperthreading on your cpu try checking/unchecking that
If using a dedicated sound-card like razer or soundblaster try running without those

Basically it sounds like it's specific to your hardware and software, if you can test various bits and narrow it down to what is causing it then it may just be a simple case of changing one setting to ensure the pc is running optimally...

Hey Alex. Thanks that your looking into this.
Ive made a vid Mp4 file of it and put it on my One drive.
The problem is related to Frame shift drive. as soon as i enter it My frame drops insane and everything becomes more laggy and laggy.. but if i leave it. All go's well. No probs @ all. also in this vid the cracking is not recorded.. the sound is fine. while when i hear it on my headset its all CRACKED UP.. i have no speakers or anything so Headset is all i have and head set is fine. Tested it with all kinds of Sounds and music

Gameplay: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?res...835&authkey=!AJoR3bY8HitJV9o&ithint=video,mp4
My settings https://onedrive.live.com/redir?res...837&authkey=!ACoFiarJPSLKba4&ithint=video,mp4

Also When i am not in frame shift i have a FPS over 200 with these settings and when not recording that is.
but as soon as i enter frame shift. well lets say 10 is much

Hello Fugly, as has already been pointed out this is not the place to be saying things like this, head to the support forums instead, the developers in all likelihood do not monitor threads like this, they are busy. This game is excellent but relies heavily on you using your imagination and involving yourself in the fantasy. If you are looking for a wing buddy to teach you some basics my CMDR name is Liol Calvert, just friend me and I'll help gladly. Good luck resolving your issue.

After playing for 30 min my sound starts Cracking and game starts Responding less and less even with the setting on recommended and then Turned down to Medium and lower.

I had the same problem you describe. Everything would go great for half an hour or so. Then, sounds would start clipping the beginning portion, and sound raspy/cackly... I had some performance degradation, but never correlated that with the sound though. I believe my problem was the sound drivers for my Asus motherboard, because through a bizarre chain of events, I ended up losing the drivers completely, and using HDMI out drivers briefly, and that fixed the sound problems completely. I had the standard mobo sound card on an Asus P9X79 ( I think ) mobo, and they never really worked once I installed a third party USB 3.0 card in my PC. Heres my timeline

1. Build PC
2. Install default drivers
3. Everything works great.
4. Mobo doesn't have a header for front mounted USB3.0 connection
5. Buy USB3.0 cards one after another, installing, testing and returning till I find one that works ( ankher )
6. USB card drivers install and cause problems with sound input/output ( sound quits when USB driver installed, overwrite sound drivers causes USB flakey )
7. After weeks of frustration, figure out a fix ( don't remember what it was ) that allows USB and sound to co-exist
8. Start seeing sound degradation over time in every application/game. Solution: Windows standard solution - Reboot often.
...
9. Video card #2 fans stop working, send back video card for warranty repair ( Thank you EVGA )
10. Startup of system after removal of vid card #2 reveal no sound or USB3.0
11. Unable to get sound in any configuration from mobo sound components. Install USB3.0 accessory card in every available slot, then finally remove it completely.
12. Configure sound to use monitor HDMI speakers for sound. Sound works but is despicable ( tinny, no depth, no bass )
13. Replacement GPU arrives. Install and retest mobo sound... no sound. Remove drivers, reboot, install drivers... nothing.
13. Install USB Sound Card, perfect sound now, including Mic, speakers, sub... everything is perfect. No degradation over time.

In the end, the only solution was a new USB sound card. I think I bought the creative omni 5.1. and it's pretty good. The signal-noise ratio is very good, i'm impressed. The Mic response and sound is better too.

I'm sorry you're sad about the "boring" traveling. The reality is that it should actually be MUCH longer but the devs recognized the gameplay would suffer. Personally I like the balance of traveling. There is a lot of activity outside space ports, and unless you're boosting through the mail slot, you're being scanned every time you arrive at a big station. Police ( and pirates ) even scan and interdict you en route sometimes. I like this game because I enjoy the emptiness of space. Frontier had done a great job of making the galaxy small enough for me to explore, yet preserved the proportions.

Also When i am not in frame shift i have a FPS over 200 with these settings and when not recording that is.
but as soon as i enter frame shift. well lets say 10 is much

Aha, found the culprit. It's very very likely that your AMD video card is to blame, due to a problem with the AMD software/drivers or something.
Quite a long thread here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=170946

The sum of it seems that Frontier are waiting for AMD to fix their stuff because there isn't much they can do. Would seem that the slowdown during FSD is being taken out on your sound.

Hey, help a chap out if you can. As you can see by the post history and "ranking" he is relatively new to the forums and there are a lot of sub-forums.

Hey alex.

Thanks but he is right. its becoming more technical so i should move it.
I thought it would be my driver. But i uninstalled, Removed all installed crap and installed v14.7 driver. still no succes. so don't think its my vid driver Latest and older driver don't seem to work. However i am using w10 and a lot is going on with that. anyway moving this problem to other Section. Thanks for the Help
