Anyone looked into the numbers on these things?

Not sure if it means anything...

Ya I have been taking screenshots when I see interesting markings as well.. Edit - Ya first time i looked - was with my phone ... didnt see the nice number combinations (thought you were talking about logos).... something to research !

Heads up CRG, looks like we have a possibility of pilots taking UA's the the systems/stations that give out the LRS missions in order to shut them down.

So this was almost certainly partly my fault for not being able to look into the station in question (felt I was 'reliably' informed that it was a station of 'no consequence' but it turns out it wasn't).

Thanks to your intervention GilliganTX, I have posted on the smuggling thread and beyond that I'll not be taking any trades to this station into account.

The CMDR in question has now also switched over to Bond Hub instead.

I was weak - I asked for trades to player-faction-donated stations only, simply because there's less likelihood of annoying large groups of players - and got swallowed into the idea that non-player, NPC stations would always be okay.

Which they clearly won't.

So apologies for that, and thanks for challenging on this - it's much appreciated. O7

My goodness this thread moves as fast as ever. Have I missed anything major in the last 24 hours?

I'm taking a break in the bubble for now to improve my federal rank a bit more. Still a long ways until I can get my Corvette but I have to start somewhere.

Hey guys, been lurking here for a couple days trying to catch up on everything as I've just recently returned from a long exploration trip. Anyways, I'm not sure one way or the other about the relation between UAs, meta-alloys, and the Antares incident, but I'm willing to bet they all have some relation. Just wondering if anyone has thought to check out the systems mentioned in the Antares cg for meta-alloys and barnacles. I'm thinking if the UA has anything to do with Antares and is of the same origin as the barnacles, it may be worth checking out some of the planets in those systems. I don't think I've seen it suggested yet, sorry if I'm wrong. Anyway, looking forward to being part of the search! I spent a fair bit of time in the closest planet of Alpha Centauri today.

check this post, a cmdr spotted a npc ship trading master chefs for scientific research : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=63119&p=3306290&viewfull=1#post3306290

So I can see people carrying scientific research, but my original question was about this post:

I looted "scientific research" from a hostage rescue mission yesterday,
sold that stuff at Ray Gateway in Diaguandari.
It is quite the expensive stuff 120k gal. avg.

The flavour text states, that it is "the type of research that can lead to breakthroughs".

Scientific research is one thing, scientific research selling for 120k with that flavour text is new, and conflicts with the image i posted before, so I'd really like to see that. The screenshots of scientific research in NPC ship cargoholds could just be the one worth a couple hundred credits.

Can confirm. It's a crashed Anaconda. As per the reddit comment, it's marked as an outpost (and is persistent through instances). So it's unique in that it's a persistent, unmarked point of interest. It's not particularily interesting beyond that. Perhaps it's a test of technology. Can also report we had A LOT of crashes when traveling/searching, usually shared with other people in the vicinity (so something that's instance-wide, with some level of distance cutoff).

Nothing points to it being related to UA.

OK, that's kinda frustrating, coz that terrain was very distinct when I was searching for the wreckage, and I'm certain I've been there and found nothing. Distinctly remember that flat area in front of the wreckage. Wondering if it's a graphical glitch on my computer.

Has anyone ever had a mission asking you to find ancient artefact's before? The mission name stood out pretty heavily on the list being named something like 'solve the mystery of the ancient artefacts'. I would have grabbed the mission but it seemed similar to the meta-alloys mission in construct in that it had no destination other than 'planet' and a 6 day timer and I don't have much time to invest in searching right now either. I wouldn't even know where to begin since I've not even heard of Ancient Artefacts at all up until today.

I've switched to a Exploration-flavoured Type-09. I think that ship is one of the most sweet looking ships in the game AND it is allowing me to help out with CGs a LOT more successfully than my Asp ever could. Plus I actually enjoy lumbering Spacecraft more than agile ones, heh.

Re: "traffic cone theory"

The morse signal feedback of the UA's needs to be looked at a bit more closely- through a filter of "first contact" protocols, and possibly even "lab rat" protocols.

With no common basis of language or mathematics, or even sensory wavelength fundamental differences we cannot even postulate, the more advanced of the two sides of the interaction has to do all of the work, to make the interaction comprehensible to the lesser side. So, the makers of the UA's had to figure US out, our communications methods, and establish some sort of "common ground" using one of our own codes. They figured out, and put to use Morse code, with which to "speak" to us.

They may be so utterly more advanced than us that Morse signals to our ships was akin to us sending chemical signals to bacteria- to illicit desired behaviors. In any even, they figured it out, and can talk to us... sorta. With no common ground on which to converse (hey, how about that *dance* in the *heavy* *smooth* dimension... and the *smells*!! am I right?!"), what is there for them to say to us- that we would have any way of even comprehending?

Its important to realize that the morse signal of the system name is the system name as WE named it... And the ship dimension points are based in a way that WE plot 3d graph coordinates. It could/should come off that this is an exhaustive effort of Them to "dumb themselves down enough" to have some common ground to converse- sure the context is a bit weird of what to chose to talk about, but They are an alien mind. Maybe They are unaware of Humanity, per se- and think only our ships are the alien life. [ this could be an alien life so far integrated technologically (like the Bentusi of Homeworld), that they literally ARE their ships, and have been so for millions of years, so...]

When we target an unknown contact, part of the sensor scan is used to generate the hologram on our target display- maybe that is how They think we converse... so- it makes sense to say "hi!" with a ship representation presented back to us.

And their frame of reference may be so different from ours that a supernova is not that big of a deal- hence the lack of a "Danger!" warning anywhere in the discussion. Maybe its a "ooh! watch THIS!" cone.

another little aspect that shoehorns in nicely tot he mere traffic cone theory is that MB has been quoted to saying "I read that discussion with amusement".... quite possibly amusing because of all the wrong turns we are making, and such a big fuss we are making over... traffic cones.

They've been around since for a long long time (less common these days), and aren't anything special, just salvage missions.

What Jmanis said. I've seen these pop up for me a number of times, although I've never done one. I believe we have mission chaining now though. Not sure if we had that before. It's probably worth completing to see if new missions in the chain pop.

Not sure if it means anything...

Interesting.. don't know if it's relevant, but it's interesting.

My first instinct was they might be dates, based on the right-most sequence. But none of the others fit as dates.. It is a little unusual though - most decals like that are copy and pasted, not unique as here.

They could be coordinates, but there doesn't seem to be a typical mix of positive and negative components. Not enough numbers - and the coordinates are too large - for another ship-schematic type encoding. A book cipher, but which book? And it'd only be four letters..

Searching for the space barnacles at the moment because... it's something to do.

They're only found in space, and presumably anything nicknamed barnacle is going to be clinging to something. On that basis, I've been searching asteroid clusters and rocky rings.. but that won't yield much if they are limited to certain systems/regions. Unless certain places means the UA sphere.

The mission to acquire them says they are on a planet.

And, um, in the uh, data files... under PlanetPOI there is a folder called POIScene_uknBarnicle. Just sayin.

re the search for meta-alloys:

The description of meta-alloys says they are 1.) formed organically, 2.) found only in certain parts of space, and 3.) they have a complex lattice structure, and are very strong with large internal voids.

To me, this screams buckyballs, aka Buckminsterfullerene molecules. It matches the description perfectly. Buckyballs have been detected in nebulae, and have been implicated in the origin of life.

The question I have is... which nebula?

on a planet without an atmosphere is still technically in space :). My guess is that the planet is the thing it's clinging to.

I like this idea, from a gameplay standpoint. Nebulae are good landmarks for providing direction. If it was any old region of space it'd be to difficult to track down.

I've done Dumbbell, Spirograph, Veil Nebula West, Sadr region, and Cone Nebula. I've done Witchhead and other nebulae around Barnard's Loop, but those could always use another go over, it's a big area.

Pleiades would be an obvious one if it wasn't for the fact that everyone is searching that one already.
I suspect California has been searched as well.

I'm thinking... Bubble Nebula, Lagoon Nebula, Jellyfish, NGC 7822, Crab Nebula, and NGC 6357 are likely suspects.

Are there any nebulae that have their system permit locks removed? I'm almost positive I remember some systems being permitlocked in witch head and... veil?.. Maybe if they are unlocked now, that could be an indicator of "hey, go there".

(also, perhaps worth investigating not just the nebula itself, but the 135ly envelope around it - maybe the thargoids are doing nebular surveys and we just found one of 'em...)

Okay, in 27 Arietis again.

I've noticed, that in this particular system, that SSS with UAs only appear within range of a planet(I've only approached the landable ones..
I find an SSS near Arietis 1, but gravity is two strong. I kill the UA while trying to scoop it. UA makes a strange cry.

I move to Arietis 2.
SSS is about 24 Mm away from the planet. the UA is moving towards the planet, at just over 10 metres a second.
There isn't gravity strong enough to affect either of us.
Obviously, this needs to be tested more extensively, but I think the UAs are approaching planets.

Imma scoop this lovely little thing and see whats on the surface. Will let you know if I find anything.

I went to Nelson Works, Dahan today to try and pick up the Meta Alloy quest, came in short of the station 168km the glide on this planet is strange anyways i was over a POI and trying to locate the center by going up and down, the strange part is at about 20km to 22km up i kept becoming mass locked with nothing around me, tried shooting in random directions to see if i would hit anything nothing. Went below 20km and mass lock was gone back up and it was back very strange. Has anyone seen this before?
I just don't like the idea of masses of alien bases suddenly uncloaking... The POI was just 2 warehouses 1 storage tank and 4 creates of tea being guarded by 5 or 6 skimmers. The mass lock did seem to be above this POI but at 20KM.
