UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Hello CMDRs,
I did not go through all 443 previous pages so I apologize in case my question was already answered. It is well known that UA has devastating effect on ship and its systems. Question: does this effect spread also beyond ship hull? Could it affect other ships in vicinity? I am participing in current CG in Dahan - hauling evacuation shelters to Nelson Works in Dahan. I waited aprox. 500m above port for docking permission when suddenly I started to lose my cargo. I checked my systems to find that everyone detoriate quickly, especially cargo hatch, heat sink launcher and chaff launcher. I boosted away from starport and after a while systems stabilized. Could it be thas some "joker" brought UA to starport?

It only affects the ship whose cargo hold it is in. No effect on nearby things. I've delivered some around civilised space, given them away to CMDRs who haven't found them yet. No such problem so far. Also, the UA's damage ship systems pretty slowly, and one at a time.

I'm just inherently sceptic. And, more importantly, deeply aware of the level of talent that lurks around these forums'.

Plus, and I could be wrong, but there are some minor details there that look like they're lift-and-shifts from the trailer, just mirrored.

But I'm happy to be shown that I'm wrong - and for some context. System, planet and location and so on if it is actually meant to be in-game.

Cool pic though. Looks like a beetle or something that faceplanted into the planet!

Bottom right corner is most definitely a copy paste from the Horizons trailer. The colours in the lighting are oddly blurred and looks like a mirrored paste from the trailer as you described.

I'm going to denounce this.

The trailer shows a system with twin stars, a bright whiteish one and an orange one so it might actually narrow down the search.
IF we can believe the trailer at all...

Hi All,

Haven't been following the thread for a few days and am about 100 pages behind so the following might not be relevant.
I've just picked up one of those find a meta-alloys mission at Nelson Works in Dahan.
Are these common now? Did anyone ever find a meta-alloy? Does anyone know where to look for one?

The missions are pretty rare, seen about 6 people report one, most are not ua hunters.
Nobody has yet discovered any meta alloy on any thread that I have seen, and that includes the material analysis threads over on Explorer forum

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll search on Smithy's Claim, Nelson's Works planet first and report back if I find one.

What are these missions? I've not been in Elite for the best part of two months due to technical problems and have not felt the will to keep up with events?

Has the shell expanded? I found UAs out as Struve's Lost Nebula last night.

REALLY? If it is true, that could be important!
I mean, Struve's Lost Sector is very close to the Shell (~160/180 Ly from Merope), so it really depends on the system you found the UA.
Can you remember where you find it? Because if you found it outside the regular shell, Struve's Nebula could be the place to go.

Hind Sector DH-L B8-1

I popped it on a planet just to see if I could. Interestingly it still pointed at Merope.

Cool pic indeed, but I think you are right about the mirroring. Since I don't have access to ED for a couple of weeks, I have to do sciency stuff outside the game, so this is my attempt at going all CSI Miami on that mysterious image. ENHANCE!!!

To begin with, I found the frame of the Horizons trailer where it looked the image could have been lifted from:

Horizons_screengrab.jpg

The bit on right of frame that the SRV is flooding with light looked pretty similar to part of the bottom of the "insectoid" structure in the mysterious image, but mirrored as you cunningly observed. So I cropped the suspect part of the frame from the trailer, flipped it, put it over the insectoid structure... a bit of rotating, a bit of scaling... and this is what I got (click to enlarge):

alien_structure_montage.jpg

I've also circled a part of the insectoid structure that looks blurry/out of focus, and which doesn't seem to make sense in the context of the image, as I can't see any floating dust that could be causing blurriness. Also, I don't think it can be a depth of field artefact as there's no DOF built in the game (unless it's in Horizons, which I haven't yet tried). And even if it was DOF, nothing else in the same focal plane seems out of focus, which makes it pretty incongruous.

That's all I've got for now...

YEEEEAH!!!

Edit: Perhaps I should have read the rest of the thread as some people (including LZ) pointed out pretty much the same things I did, just using words instead of Photoshop-fu. I just can't keep up with all the posts! Still, it was fun to do.

Well, this is totally unrelated, but I just found a data point 5000ly out in the Crescent Nebula, it's the kind that looks like a crashed Nav beacon. I'll upload a video if no one believes me.

Am i the only one who thinks this building is a necron structure from warhammer 40k? The creator played a bit with the symbol but the style is pretty close to it.

I feel like I have to mention this, because it's been nagging at me, but I don't think it's hugely important;

A few days ago I reported finding my very first UA, taking it directly to the star Merope. Like literally, crashing into Merope. Very, very shortly after the UA expired there was a gigantic solar flare.

I'm loathe to suggest the death of the UA caused it. It seemed very coincidentally timed but then maybe Solar Flares are just that big. I'm not often crashed into a sun, haha.

And why would it be a necron structure from warhammer 40k?
If you're talking about the symbols on the second picture (with the whole structure) - it is a fake.

Solar flares are random and it is unlikely they are connected with something that happened thousands of kilometers above the surface of the star.

But still, it is better to report everything to not miss anything important.
