Taking stock...!

Hello all!

Like so many of you, I have been in on this adventure since the Kickstarter campaign began back in 2012. I have danced my way around these forums almost every day, absorbing all the information and enjoying all the banter.

More recently I have been pouring over many of the videos that have been posted on YouTube by the Alpha players, putting the game through its paces and I have been loving it.

I have listened to every Lave Radio podcast and thoroughly enjoyed them. And I'm sure I'm not alone in being someone that although does not post very frequently, I really do feel part of a fantastic community here. One that has grown and matured over the last year and a half.

As I step back and take a deep breath at this point, I just wanted to say that what I think Frontier Developments have created so far, in terms of the game, is nothing short of awesome. It's really coming together and I am super excited that I may actually be playing this game at some point this year (hopefully!) I know that many of us want more updates and information coming out of FD, but it's clear to me that the thing that matters most, the game, is emerging wonderfully before our eyes. Like a phoenix from the flames!

It is totally clear to me also, that Frontier Developments care hugely about this game. You can sense it in all correspondence. The passion and drive they have to create something special is (to me) clearly evident.

Although I am not involved in the Alpha testing, I have hugely enjoyed hopping onto YouTube, putting my best headphones on and delving into the Elite world. And I want to 'doff my cap' to the people who have worked on the sound design for this game, because listening on headphones is AMAZING. I'm blown away by the sound design and I guess it's not even close to being finished yet.

Anyway, that's all from me. I'm happy. I'm excited! And I think Frontier Developments should be proud of what they have produced so far, and also, we should be proud of the community we are part of too.

Great post!

It's like being 6 years old and waiting for Christmas having sneaked a peek at what you are getting in your parents wardrobe (and it's even better than what you asked for!) several months before you are allowed to open it.

Long may the community be as awesome as it has been so far. It makes the wait much more bearable.

Poole is indeed lovely - and you are most welcome here whenever you can make it!
:)

I don't know, sometimes I'd feel safer doing the Lave Orerve run than buying fish and chips in Poole after dark! :)

Used to have an excellent market stall there filled with Amiga and PC games, long gone now.

Excellent words Commander Giskard!

Great game, great development and great community!

Thank you and kudos Elite; past, present and future!

Taking stock a few days before thousands of Beta backers fail to receive their expected product is a brave act, but doing so by reminding the Beta backers of the enjoyment they are missing out on by lauding the Alphans is a stoke of genius, for it is only after enduring such pain that true believers can stand tall and be proud.

I salute you Commander for leading the way.

When I read the title, I wondered if this was a discussion on taking canisters i.e. stock in order to sell but am glad that I did stop to read as I have been doing something similar to you in that I have spent too much time reading and in my case posting on this forum in anticipation of the beta arrival. Even though the wait is difficult, we, the community appreciate the effort that FD and the alpha backers and the novelists have put into this.

Even though I do not like it when paper is needlessly used, I do hope that someone prints off the OP and shares it around the office at FD.

Good luck and I look forward to blasting you out of the darkness.
Until then, right on commanders!

Great! I remember very well you. A return towards the kickstarter invades me at the moment. Excellent post !

Yes it is not just about money. One person who really cares is worth 10 who see it more as just a job.

ED has done more than what even many of the most dedicated fans thought they could do in terms of outstanding quality of graphics. As far as gameplay and setting I think most of us always knew that would be great as it's ED.

Still I am often so impressed and the in game lighting and realistic starscapes are breath taking...
