Are ED followers more comfortable in their own skin?

Greetings,

While catching up on Forum posts for not only ED, but SC and EVE-O it occurred to me that the latter two games have threads dedicated to ED.

Whereas I couldn't find such discussions here, granted both games have been mentioned but not in the detail they appear on SC and EVE-O Forums.

Reading through the threads there is about an even(ish) balance of comments for and against ED, though the negative comments are very negative!

So why do we not have such threads? Is it because we are already in Alpha and we can see what is being delivered? Is it because we are confident the game will be what we want it to be, or is it something else....

actually we do have those threads, we just haven't dug them out in a while. We'll get the SC one out in a couple of weeks when the dog fighting module comes out :-D

I can only talk for myself. I must say, that the other two games just don't interest me.

My interest in E: D originates from the C64 Elite.

I believe it is delayed again  Something about RSI not being able to get two offices to talk to each other or some such, it is meant to be revealed at PAX, which is mid April, with a view on giving it to Alpha backers by the end of April...

ah, but aren't they doing a live stream or something to show the progress? I believe there is even a stream today right?

Ah the wonderful search feature failed to find that when i checked

Oh well, kinda makes my thread a moot point now :(

It is buried down in the basement of the off-topic sections of the forum.
I think there's a thread in the same forum for EVE as well.

Same here, if David Braben wasn't the one doing this, I wouldn't of pledged.

I'm confident that he knows the perfect formula for space games.

Something like that. Their "Next Great Starship" show won't have any episodes for this and two more weeks while the teams work on their ships. Instead they will be using the time to show of the Dogfighting Module and possibly other stuff.

Personally I'm following both this and Star Citizen and have been for quite a while (though I didn't get involved in either kickstarter). Just happy to see more "space sim" games finally get made.

yeah, I'm expecting the DFM to be impressive. Look forward to seeing that, but I expect the periods of wait between tangible SC updates are going to be huge.

Some people may buy all 3 if they are fans of the genre.

Then theres the ones that will loyal defend their choice while attacking anybodys whose is different.

I wouldnt rule out buying all 3, but elite is the one I'm after, I know very little about the other 2, I havent been interested enough to check them out which is strange as elite has made me a fan of this type of thing.

I suppose if there was no elite coming I would probably have taken more of an interest in the other 2, but I guess knowing there is an elite coming means I dont have that need.

but if I here good things I'd happily pick up the others, then I can mix it up a bit. I would love all 3 to be great, Then I would have 3 great games to play instead of just 1.

I think the main reason the ED fanbase don't talk about the other space games much is probably more to do with the fact that Elite started it all in the first place.
elite is the original space game, every space game that came after Elite has taken ideas from the original Elite.

so why talk about some other space game that is based on Elite when you can talk about elite.

The Star Citizen thread is fairly large and there is also a Limit Theory one that gets a fair amount of traffic usually after the monthly updates. I think the ED Alpha has taken up most peoples time on here and it also gives folk something "solid" to talk about. I would expect a large increase in the use of the SC thread when the dogfighting module hits.

I've played EVE on and off since Day 2. I've also pre-ordered on SC but Elite: Dangerous is the one I'm waiting for the most.

EVE-Online is, well, very repetitive now-a-days regardless of which aspect(s) you get involved in. I think that has always been the nature of that particular beast though. It's not until you get into the meta-gaming side of EVE and start trying to impress and influence other players that it gets anything like interesting. The none meta-game side is just boring now for me and the meta-game is just too intense and time/will consuming for me to find it enjoyable.

I got into Star Citizen because it looked like it was going to be a very similar game to ED initially but with more back story and involvement in such. The more information they release about the design and features though, the more disillusioned I'm getting with it. I think I'm starting to regret getting involved in that game a bit. Especially on the very few times I join their forums. There are far too many voices all shouting at each other and the SC design is starting to fragment under the weight of the huge amount of cash it's found itself with. CIG have found themselves in the unenviable situation of being in hock to it's player base than to a publisher with the pressures on them becoming just the same but instead of one entity to please they now have 300,000 odd. I still have high hopes for it but I think it's starting to look like it's going to disappoint more than impress.

I played EVE because Earth and Beyond got canned by EA to make server space for The Sims Online and there was nothing better at the time. Now Elite is back I've just lost interest in the others. It's not that I've stopped following their progress, it's just that Elite is back.

Wouldn't really surprise me. In the original plan for the release of the various modules the time gap was a couple months between each module. The dogfighting module has been delayed by a couple months, could see the same will happen to the other modules. It does sound like they plan to add things to each module in-between the releases of the various modules though

I find the Star Citizen sub-reddit is a good place to pick up SC news quickly without getting bogged down in the noise. Also they talk about Elite Dangerous without degenerating into childish fan-boy-ism.
