UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Nice. I think it's a fair chance that the Antares ship was built using Meta-Alloys for some parts. Could be a connection.

Looking at the general direction of the flight - you could even make an argument that the Antares System might have been its destination

Been doing some reading up on barnacles and found something that stood out to me.

Apparently barnacles have the ability to make noise: 0:09 sec in

Interesting, but I think they are more interesting than that......
https://youtu.be/znlU8nR5hI8

I'm pretty sure that the first Barnacle is going to be found when someone drops a UA in a random system and the barnacle's **ahem** shoots out from the planet surface to procreate with the UA

;)

Those are old 1.3 UAs. No UAs has been found in the Pleiades after the release of 1.4.

Interesting.
Now i ask myself why is that so?
Did the UAs travel from merope onwards,
or did they flee destruction?

Is a planet missing in the pleiades, or has anything environment wise changed
since then?

On the other side,
does anyone know a good spot with no gravity and
a lot of metallic dust to feed a barnacle?
I guess asteroid belts where tested (tested an asteroid cluster).

Just watched a little documentary on barnacles,
maybe we find some similarities we can test with the UA:

- barnacles are crustaceans with mobile larval states
- as adults they attach themselves head-on to a suitable location
(taking into account the tide, presence of other barnacles, bacteria films and the terrain itself)
- predated by: turtles, crustaceans, starfish
- hermaphrodite reproduction, alternatively using a semen cloud
- suspension feeder, relying on the tide

We find UAs in space in S.S.S.,
in a big "ocean" and a "spread zone" around the pleiades.
Where can they feed?
What is the tide in space?

Cheers

I find the choice of name "Barnacle" interesting. I remember Thargoid ships had a similar shape to barnacles. <pulls tinfoil hat down over ears>

...or, it could just be wordplay. When I've got a bit of time tomorrow I'll go BARNAcle hunting around BARNArd's Star.

Hi there

I have a theory that I will be working on in the future (Hard to play when you have to celebrate New year and see the whole family).

First of all, I am French so excuse my akward english.

Here is the plot.

Maybe Merope is a totally different thing than the Barnacles. I think that recent station issues could very well be the cunjunction of two factor:

The sell of UA's on the bubble AND the proximity of the barnacles.

I entered the coordinates of every system affected by technical issues:

xyz
Major issuesWarkushanui-43-866
Warkushanui 2-43-866
49 Arietis-74-97-171
Pic Tok-81-23-161
Rhea5822-31
64 Arietis-57-91-178
Arawere-44-10225

Here we have the first batch of issues (chronogically) that are major (24h issues). Please, Notice that Warkushanui had 2 station hitten.

Than:

IssuesVarati-17977-87
Ngobe-8-125-164
Sol000
Diaguandri-41-63-103
Nganji-2436-132
Peregrina-25-81-184
Iapodes-97-12-171

2nd batch of issues

And finally the last batch:

Harma-99-10121
Wolf 1301-15-35-79
Maia-82-150-343

I used the coordinates on a 3d plotting system to see what it looked like and calculated the medium of each points, which give: -50.23 -54 -102.7 ==> Really close to "Hip 13806"

Maybe this is the nest of the barnacle? Maybe they send signals across space to UA's in stations which then respond with EM waves that cause issues to stations?

Feel free to ponderate each coordinates at will, maybe ponderating it with the time between each station issues could be great! Unfortunatly, I dont have any user-friendly mathematical tool to do so...

I hope I convinced you to do as I will: Explore somewhere around HIP 13806 and hoping that my theory does make sense!

I think I may have just watched the same video as well, haha. Makes me think of space as the ocean and planets as substrate to mount to like you have mentioned.

Could the source of food be mining fragments? I've only "discovered" a small handful of the materials on the surface, but could any of these be potential snacks for our UA friends? I don't have a list handy to cross check anything (not that it would lead me anywhere, nor could it even have any sort of coherence, lol). The whole feeding aspect is what has me completely dumb-founded.

I'm still 100% on the train that the UA's are un-rooted barnacles, and our large barnacles we seek are established UA's that have grown from their original form, what we see now. My reasoning is the striking resemblance between IRL barnacles, and the UA in their respective forms.

As for the tide in space, this has tickled my fancy. Could the tide be witch-space?

And of course, when I have the most motivation to scour the surface of planets, I'm 300 miles away from home, haha.

*edit*
Just thought about the station malfunctions, and the UA's feeding like mentioned before. I guess it could make sense that the UA's feed off of energy (possibly also an item we can use in synthesis for fsd boost augmentation?)

Isn't that in or close to the Pleiades aswell?
I hope i don't mix HIP and HD designations here,
too much blue O-Types and Black holes lately:p

Thinking over this whole tide in space,
i think i come to a conclusion some CMDRs already had:
Gravity wells,
the gravity of a planet affected by an orbitting moon.

Hmm...
But why does the UA then drop to the surface when interacting with gravity?
Is the blue distortion field around the UA the "feeding zone"?
It is blue, like a lot of stars in the Pleiades...
Gotta think over it.

Also reading on the mission of Palin again:

Did you notice?
Maia b1ba

...
M a i a
a b 1 b (backwards) "I" is "one" in roman numbers
Is there another reason to the choice of that particular body,
other than the remote and dark environment?

This is the kind of Science I like :D
+REP for you CMDR, and, vive la France! (Italian here...)

Oh boy ... Why do I get the feeling that pallin will discover something very spooky and creepy in his research base :(
somehow I got the feeling that when palling starts his studies on the UA there the barnacles will rise underneath the surface and show up and that's where the other part of the UA story starts
and I still do believe that we need to wait until pallin CG ends and fd gives us more clues because the more we imagine and fantasize the more complicated the mystery will get . Just trying to cheer you up by the way :)

i dont know if i found something or if i'm seeing things...

today i found 5 uas in 5 different systems. all are part of theSphere, so you find an ua pretty easy. anyway the thing is that there's a difference between where the ua is actually pointing itself (merope of course) and what the hud shows you. that difference made me think so i tried to figure it out. in my previous post about this today i thought the hud was pointing towards somewhere in front of the pleiades however that idea was wrong.... now take a look at this:

1. ua found in hr 1639 (A). initally i thought its pointing somewhere in front of the pleiades.

2. ua in HIP 19298 (B). again pointing in front of. not. these 2 were pointing at each other.

i then randomly picked a hip system that was ~150ly from merope.

3. ua in hip HIP 15787 (F). hud pointing somewhere really strange. i followed the line and ended up in...

4. ua in hip 11690 (A). pointing somewhere strange again. plotted a line towards that direction and missed. i was in HIP 17043, theres a landable with 3g but its too close to merope. checked the map again and found

5. ua in 35 Lambda Tauri (A). it pointed to hip 11690.

yes maybe i'm a bit too enthuastic about this but its a pattern. plus i want to point out that i was just focusing on theSpehre and not star names or classes. it just turned out this way. i tried to find uas in neighboring systems but didnt succeed.

Yes, an agenda completely empty of any discovery.
Putting SCIENCE under a flag is always a bad thing. And does not lead anywhere.
This is not the Canonn thread. The Canonn was born in these pages just to bring together all the people whose first love is science. I'm not an "official" Canonn-er myself, proudly being an independent researcher, so that's the right thread to be. Where things happen, and discoveries are made.

Yes, that's real science: "who cares?" if something different happens, in an hardly coded game? Wow.

No rank required. Mission found by Mostly Harmless players already.

He's right... 2 months ago you guys found a lot of great answers that were already answered for a long time on a russian forum but never made public on the official ED forum. There are people with different agendas that don't necessarily like to post here due to the biased wild goose chase theories.

On a side note :

I've been reading some of the recent stuff you guys have posted and it's all beautiful and great on paper but nobody seems to get out there anymore and test them out. Most of the confirmed answers you guys found were really simple and didn't need 400 pages of speculation. You guys should really start dressing a map of what has been found (make a billboard) and from there think about what could be the next logical step. It's really not difficult. You guys are going in circle without a clear roadmap just pitching ideas left and right like a bunch of headless chicken trying to reach out for what ever is left to eat.

Make yourself a roadmap and from there draw your next objective.

Found a Meta-Alloys mission in Ovid, Shriver Dock, few minutes ago.

Good work. That was where I believe I got mine from too. So now we have (probably) two of that mission from Shriver Dock, which suggests that it's a good place.

Has anyone got the meta-alloys mission from a space station?

You should try reading again then because I see lots of posts from people out there following their theories; testing UA behaviour on planets and in space, searching for barnacles in Merope, Maia, the UA shell, various nebulae, near where the meta-alloy missions are found and more. Personally I'm away from my gaming PC visiting family but there are many people out there doing the things I would be doing if I were home. Somehow you must have missed them.

true but also very subjective there are people spending weeks on thing's that lead to nowhere. I would just keep it simple and follow the clues that make the most sense in regards to what you can actually confirm and find in-game. The most logical option is to find UA's. I don't think the UA behavior is related to the planet surface in merope if it was the case someone would have found it by now considering the amount of players in this game.

Exploration is obviously a big key part of Horizon, I would start there from a logical standpoint. Start exploring and send expeditions like you did the first time you found UA's. The devs built you guys a station in the Pleiades for an obvious reason.

Make yourself a roadmap and from there draw your next objective it's really not hard. The answers are in-game the devs have said it many times. It's also quite obvious from the very first day the UA's are like a treasure hunt, the answer is obviously not in Merope but somewhere else. I would just try to dress a road like you guys did in first 2 original thread.

That is a whole lot of words to say absolutely nothing at all. Sort of sounds like another "Hey I know what is going on / i have secret knowledge post". Or put another way, you may think things here are a bit all over the place, but can you point at a single thing these 'Russians' have done or discovered? I did not see any post from the devs congratulating them? I did not see them mentioned on gal net. Now I may be being a bit harsh there, but that is how it comes across.

So I think I will file this under. "Sure. Whatever."

Just a quick question, I generally lurk and play ED on and off but I have been following this thread as much as possible, I see people saying that FD said "it's right under everyone's nose" (or along those lines). The planet on the main menu screen, does it appear in game? It's there in plain sight every one see's it's each time they log in.

I've never seen a planet close to that in ED though so I doubt it does exist but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.
