Anaconda - Does it stack up to new ships for combat?

With the release of ships like the Cutter, the Corvette and the FDL, I'm wondering if the Anaconda still stacks up for combat purposes. Is it still great, or has it been handily unseated by the Corvette? If so, is the Corvette better by a huge margin, or is it only marginally better against NPCs in combat? I'm not looking to PvP -- I just want a big ship that can quickly and handily destroy pirates, powerplay hostiles, et cetera.

It does.

Anaconda was always one of Top PvE ships... and after 1.5/2.0, it is still good as ever. It can have most powerfull armor of all big ships. No fraction locked. Best jump range of all. 8 HP's can wreck any Npc really quick.

Out of the big three it's still the best combat and exploration ship. The Cutter dethroned it as the best trader and the Corvette doesn't quite match the Anacondas combat performance using my preferred loadout. Not to mention its abysmal jump-range which makes getting it anywhere a chore.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like I'll be grabbing myself an Anaconda after a week or so of Shadow Delivery missions, then.

The Anaconda is still the best bang for the buck. The Vette although an alright combat ship still fails to be an upgrade. When both ships are combat loaded the Anaconda is still better at pointing its hard points at targets even though the Vette does not drift. The biggest issue for the Vette is its longevity for sustained pve. It just does not deliver. The C4 hardpoint locations make poor class 3 slots and class 4 weapons have limited ammo.

So if you don't want to grind you wont be missing out. The best part is the Anaconda is a 'flexible specialist' unlike the other two large ships the Anaconda can be kitted out for every role. It can fight, it can trade, and it is till the best exploration ship.

For PvE I'm not even sure you need the Conda to dominate - FAS with maxed armor and HRP upgrade and 3 PAs bottom mount is already strong enough to kill everything at RESs and such.

Conda, Corvette and such are massive overkills for PvE (I'm sure it is fun to do that though).

Yeah even the 8 Vulture SSS can't take out a well outfitted/piloted Conda. Sadly dialing up some of the combat instances brings out the space hermits who think mining ships should be able to solo mine in a HazRes.

Make sure that after buying it, you still have enough funds to outfit it properly and, more importantly, that you have enough money in the bank for the insurance in the case, God forbids, that you lose it.

The Conda is still a beast, the corvette can be an upgrade in a lot of situations / loadouts but the anaconda is not only a great all rounder but has great sustained high damage.

the corvette is more of a burst damage platform, it doesn't do a lot of sustained damage but is a monster with a burst damage loadout.

The cutter is just a punching bag, it's a trade ship.

The Corvette requires a bit more nuanced loadouts to really shine. The Anaconda can do pretty well in just about any loadout and situation.

I do prefer the Corvette though as my kill times are much faster even with a basic loadout of all pulses and 2 C4 cannons. I also prefer the internals. At least FD (mostly) knows how to balance the starter and end ships with each other.

Friend has an Anaconda all equipped for battle, and to what I've seen when he's fought the newer ships, he's done pretty darn good. Especially when you see the newer ships trying to jump out before getting destroyed cx. But it also comes down to the skill of the CMDR in the ship too.

Yep, yep. I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of ~450 million credits to pretty much fully outfit my Anaconda, bulkheads notwithstanding (not sure I'll be getting anything, since I tend to run away after losing my shields). Shouldn't take more than another week or so of Shadow Delivery mission grinding, since I'm at 141 million atm.

Anaconda is still a very very strong PVE ship.

The Corvette is arguably better, but only if you are good with the Huge PAs or Huge Cannons.

If you are looking to stack pulse lasers and multi-cannons and sit around in CZ/RES sites until your eyes bleed, the Anaconda is a great choice.

There's absolutely no point in RES farming, since long-range smuggling is both FAR more profitable and far less tedious. I'm just wanting a general-purpose ship that can go far and destroy pretty much anything without breaking a sweat.

Great ship. I really love it. More than the other two. But don't ask the Tau Ceti Crimson Boys on their opinion. They just lost 3 against a FAS hehe.

Sorry to resurrect a semi-dead thread, but would I be able to find a discounted Anaconda / discounted modules for it anywhere? I've seen threads show up from time to time that mention ship and module discounts, but most of them are fairly ancient. I'm currently affiliated with Felicia Winters, if that's relevant at all.

If you're on the Fed career path you'll enjoy the vette when you get there.... but the Conda is still a tough ship to beat as a solid big all-rounder.... has probably the best weapons layout for PVE of the 3 biggies.... the Cutter is just fail ... got one ... hate it... selling it
