Community Event / Creation Getting the ball rolling again with Buckyball Run 9

Well if BBR9 is gonna be a "live" race, then this will be the first BBR that I gotta sit out :(

(cuz I live on the other side of the planet and in general I'm 12 hours ahead of East Coast USA, 8 hours ahead of London GMT)

Well, he was talking about both a live race and a traditional event, both under the BBR9 banner. So you'd still be able to do the traditional one.

As for the patch thing... from what I've seen, the only bug that's likely to have much of an effect on us for BBR9 is the one where the route planner loses your route after the first jump? I haven't seen that one personally, so I don't know how bad it is...

Ranazke has it right. The "Live" event will kick off the race but the rest of it will go for a whole week whenever pilots want to run it as per previous races.

Don't worry, F2, I wouldn't deny you your historic status as the sole BBR completionist. ;) I am gonna have to widen the name column for all those freakin' dots...

The start time would be 2100 or 2200 GMT, though... So maybe if you got up really, really early? ;)

It's bad when it happens to you. Wednesday night I had a 14 jump trip and had to replot 7 times. Shorter trips 3-5 jumps also dropped. It was super annoying.

Oddly enough, I had no problems at all on Thursday night doing the same length trips, but a friend I was chatting with was having the drop issues on the shorter jaunts.

It will definitely cause headaches, especially if some people experience it and others do not...

I'm getting lots more interdictions by NPCs since 1.5 came out. I don't know if it's an overall buff in aggressiveness or if the systems I operate in just happened to get shadier. If it's a general thing that could be pretty annoying for a race. Winning an interdiction seems harder, too; sometimes the escape vector will suddenly start flickering all over the screen and then you lose almost immediately.

Ah ok, that could work :) I dunno how I missed that.

Or, you could do like what Mathemeticians do.... 1x10^28 kinda stuff for the dots :D Or you could do like how MS Excel does it... "Wraparound cells" :p

Nah that wouldn't work. I'm not a morning person. Maybe if I don't go to bed though..... like stay up till 5am....

ps: Hey I just had a crazy idea... for a future BBR, how about including planetary colonies as landing stops in a BBR race? We could launch from a station, hit a few other checkpoint stations, and among those, have a couple that are actually planet/moon-side. I know we can land anywhere on the surface but you just have to say you gotta land on the landing pad at those colonies that do have landing pads.

Of course that would preclude those who don't have Horizons... but it would bring a new level of competition to BBRs :)

I'm not suggesting buggy races cuz I think I saw someone else starting to organise those...

Buckyball Racing Club presents... Escape Velocity. Starts tomorrow, runs through until Wednesday. Full thread will be up later today (once I've fully confirmed route and completed the banner). :D

EDIT 3pm: Race thread is up now.

The Elite Racers are in a deeper bind... apparently they've got an SRV race kicking off on Monday and there's a nasty SRV throttle bug which could make life hard for them.
anyone know why those guys don't use the forum? I don't do reddit.. so who knows what they are up too. I hope they have a good race.. I may go and join them.

Yeah I was going to join them on the canyon race during Beta, but I couldn't as I don't and won't use reddit either. Don't know why they don't use here though.

I'm another grumpy one. The races look fun. Other events, like Kate Russell's Sidewinder sports day, looked fun. I'm not interested in signing up on yet another website especially when this community has a forum already.

*grumble*

I lurked for a bit. I get the impression they've kind of hit the cap on how many people can be part of their races -- they're regularly hitting the 32-player private group limit.

Private groups have limits? Mobius has got more than that by about 11,000... Or do they have 32 distinct groups?

Anyway, it looks like the route planner kerfluffle has settled down and the lights are back on at Obsidian Orbital, so might as well make it official...

Not clickable yet but then there's no official thread at the moment. I'll have that up tomorrow... assuming the thargoid invasion doesn't happen or Denton Patreus doesn't by Universal Cartographics and turn it into a paid subscription service...

EDIT: Awww crap! Just saw Drakhyr's got another race going. Think we can do two races at once?

The limit is on individual instances, rather than private groups as a whole. The instance limit means you can only actually see up to 31 other players at a time. This is a bigger problem for the Elite Racers because their races run entirely within one instance.

I think it's probably OK as they are only partly overlapping, not completely :)

Having missed out on the last two BRC events, I'm raring to participate in both Buckyball-9 and "My True Love..."

Plus as Drakhyr said they only overlap by a little.

Anyway since The Shotgun Shine didn't bother heading to Sadge, we've not had our favourite bar available at the finish line since Buckyball Run 7!

BBR 9? Nine's my favorite number! Right after 42, 36 and 17!

I also just took the dust covers off my Cobra MkIII "?SYNTAX ERROR", so this is very timely.

I might also bring along my newly-named Python "Stacia" for fun - it will be useless at racing but fun to fly.

Now, where's my copilot got to?

Do you think there might be a second live race? I'm not going to make it due to a prior engagement and I'm pretty disappointed
