SteamVR + 0.8 runtime - Windows 10 only or 7?

Hi guys,

Firstly, thanks for all the trail-blazers out there who post all the guides! Quick question for those running 0.8 runtime with SteamVR - looks like most are on Windows 10 but anyone know if it'll work on 7? Or is it simply time to bite the bullet and upgrade my OS?

Cheers,

Kietrax

Win 10 with 0.8 works the best I think. No need to play it through Steam it just needs to be installed. My setup is simply open voice attack, turn on headphones, launch Horizons from the ED 64 bit launcher and in about 60 seconds I'm playing. Add reshade, change the HUD to green and the game looks great. Added bonus is the nice windowed mirror that comes up on your monitor for anyone to watch. Now if I can just figure out how to have the game sound on my USB wireless headset and simultaneously play through the front 3.5 mm jack of my computer on a wired set of headphones that would be cool for those watching.

You can and I do using Voicemeeter which is free to download http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Voicemeeter/

Kietrax,

I attempted to run this setup on Windows 7 64. The results were a judder fest.

My current system:
I7
64 Gig memory
GTX780Ti
4K Monitor
Elite Dangerous running from SSD

I have to admit, after reading the earlier thread in this forum I was a bit intrigued. I have other games that require the 0.8 SDK environment. The setup you are asking about with 0.8 SDK and SteamVR seemed like a very good alternative from switching the run times back and forth. The problem for me was that it made the game unplayable due to Judder, good news is - It is easy to switch back to the 0.6.0.2 SDK. I think you are running the 980 if memory servers - couple of folks using the 1984 Cobra Avatar - I would be interested in seeing how your system preforms if you are so inclined.

Hope this helps.

**Edit for readability - sorry was rushed on the original post. **

I agree if you have an I7 and a 980 go for the upgrade, if not wait.

Is it pretty easy? I started looking in to Virtual Cable but seems like more about taking 2 sources and putting them as one. I am referring to taking the sounds from the game that are already feeding in to my USB wireless headset and having that also come to the 3.5mm jack on front so somebody watching can plug in wired headphones for sound while watching mirror image. Everything I read deals with taking 2 sources in to one not one source and splitting to 2 places.

Yes :)
I have my usb headphones and my 5.1 3.5mm jack working together with a diy bass shaker.

Install Voicemeeter, when opened up if you select Hardware out A1 (top right drop down) say your usb headphones) then select A2 for your other device. Very easy, hope you sort it.

You are the man, works perfectly I downloaded Voicemeter Banana and set it up in minutes. Been looking for this solution for quite some time now. Set it to launch automatically on startup and took a screenshot of the setup for my gaming folder. Thanks CMDR This forum is extremely helpful thanks to everyone on here for sharing knowledge and willingness to help. I have been off Elite for a while and having purchased Horizons a week ago this has been the best setup I have had to date and really enjoying playing again.

It is donate ware so sent them a 10 spot.

Edit: You really have me thinking now the juices are flowing. I have push to talk on my gaming headset so if I put a wired 3.5mm push to talk headset or even an adapter on the front jack can I talk to the person watching at will?

Maybe something like this with the talk mute switch

I guess it would work, if you look at the first drop down menu on the left hand side, where it says Hardware Input, you can do the same as you did with Hardware out.
Hopefully you'll have a cheap 3.5mm mic you could plug in and try before you go ahead and spend money.

My thoughts exactly try it with the cheap 9 dollar best buy version first. Thanks

Edit: What do you know it works I have 2 microphones one on my wireless G930 and one on my wired G230 along with Stereo mix on the other input. Voicemeeter is the default for sound and it outputs on A1 and A2 going to Headset and front speaker jack. Put the G930 on my daughter along with the game sound and had her speak can hear everything, Game, Daughter, and Astra. If I hit my mic on with the cord switch she can here me perfectly and I can relay instruction to her. The only problem I can see is Astra is listening but regular chat should not get picked up as any command anyway unless by accident. The person watching the monitor just needs to have some edicate and only intervene when necessary otherwise switch should be in the off position.
