Predicting how the different powers will react when the Thargoids arrive

They will react exactly the same as they currently do, except some of the missions will have the word 'pirates' replaced with the word 'aliens' in the description text.

I'm guessing the first significant action of the inevitable Thargoid war will be the destruction of a station, which. Far as I know has not occurred yet in ED. I'm guessing too that all the ships then docked in said station will be destroyed and I'm wondering... Has anyone checked the exclusions on their insurance policies...? #unsettling ;-)

Yeah just checked mine after an expensive claim earlier

Page 13, section 10
Exclusions:
Ship destruction through supernova, or other similar event.
Ship destruction due to pilot stupidity.
Ship infestation due to planetary landing.
Ship biological contamination due to planetary landing.
Ship destruction caused by escaping livestock(slaves not counted as livestock)
Pilot abducted by aliens
Ship and Pilot abducted by aliens
Ship abducted and pilot contaminated by aliens.
Alien lifeform bursting out of pilot.
Major alien invasion and destruction of GalInsurance HQ

It's funny how FKF gets it right and wrong at the same time.

There was a war with the Thargoids, they were more powerful but oddly enough, we forced them back and held them in check, this is all part of the official lore of the Elite Universe btw. Then INRA hit them with the bioweapon and the Thargoids were about to become an extinct species, only the Alliance went and found the cure and made an alliance with the Thargoids, gave them the cure and got a nice warship out of the deal. The war was ended, the Thargoids and Alliance lived in peace and did some cultural and technological exchange programs, we know their tech, they know ours and it's all good. INRA was chastised for their underhanded tactics, the warmongers in the Federation and Empire were put in the spotlight and removed from power and it was all good everywhere, Thargoids and Humans living side by side in peace and harmony. Again, this is all official Elite universe lore, not fan fiction or supposition.

So, now we have Elite Dangerous, been a bit since the Thargoids were our enemies, and now, oddly enough, they seem to be a legend to the general populace according to GalNet. David's comment back during the KS alludes to the Thargoids and Humans NOT being so friendly now as well. UA's show up, and everyone immediately jumps on the Thargoids Are Coming bandwagon, for reasons I've yet to figure out. The UA's are UNKNOWN Artifacts, and we know Thargoid technology, so that means they aren't Thargoid. According to the official Elite universe lore, Thargoids are just ONE of the sentient alien species that Humanity is aware of, there's a number of them IN the bubble of occupied space as it happens. We don't know how many more are outside the bubble, but there's a pretty good chance there are more out there. David and Michael have been been clear that Thargoids AND OTHER Aliens will be making appearances in Elite Dangerous. We don't know who'll we'll encounter first, but I don't think the Thargoids are behind the UA's for the obvious reasons, they are totally unknown alien technology and we know Thargoid technology, so my guess is that we'll encounter some other Alien species who are behind the UA's, and their reaction to us will undoubtedly be based on how our first encounter with them goes, which is something we've been told is exactly how things will go by FD multiple times, OUR reaction to the Aliens on the first encounter will set the tone for our relationship with them.

So, if you run into some Alien out there, don't shoot first, be friendly, so we can get to know the Aliens and get their technology. THEN we can wipe those dirty Alien scum out using their own technology!

I think their will be two sides :
-One side want to make peace with us, they understood we are weak but we can make lot of damage (mycoid virus). Maybe they wanna share instead of doing silly war again.
-The other side can't sustain their rage against us anymore for killing lot of thargoids before and will be happy to exterminate us on sight.

That will make a good power to choose, help thargoids to contain their own ppl and they share a modified weapon with you (like special weapons in the actual pp) or maybe a ship/modules.

Maybe have a thargoid's bubble far from us, that will encourage pple to travel for doing coop missions, spy missions or just to be curious and come to see ect..

Well the thing is, they've kinda become the "default Alien" so as soon as something weird happens, everybody blames the Thargoids

Yeah, I'm not blaming you for that, that's a general reaction for reasons that are actually rather easy to understand. For many of us old farts, Elite and the Thargoids as the enemy are what we remember, and many of the comers to the game world have looked up Elite and seen that the Thargoids were THE enemy, and that's it. Most didn't play the sequels, so they aren't aware of the changes, and new comers don't look them up because they have a different title, so not aware of the changes. I KNEW the history and still forgot about it myself, I had to go look up stuff and be reminded, after all, it's been a long time and I've played so many different games, read so many novels and seen so many movies and tv shows, it all gets confused and jumbled up a bit sometimes.

However, despite having the resources to remind us, we have David tossing out statements that make it seem that maybe the Thargoids are the enemy again...maybe...we don't know. The UA's however, I simply don't get why so many are stuck on them being Thargoid, we KNOW their technology, the UA's aren't Thargoid, so...

*edit*
Oh, and one other little thing that makes the UA's obviously not Thargoid...the locations. The Thargoids came at us from a different direction from where all the UA's are positioning themselves and pointing towards, another mark in favor of another alien species being behind them.

I did know all about the mycoid virus. Quite nasty, although if the Alliance is, well, allied with the Thargoids, maybe the mystery of the missing alliance ships will be solved... BUT, it's becoming more and more likely that the Thargoids WON'T be the first aliens to appear....

I can already see the first reactions on Thargoid interactions:

"Why does killing Thargoids give so much less credits than bounty hunting in a RES?, omg FD is the worst, forcing me to grind humans instead of bugs to buy a panther clipper on which I'll grind human trafficking instead..."

"...for freedom and justice!"

They will react in the appropriate manor...

Replying with quote so others can read and be edu-muh-cated.

It could be another species attempting to frame the Thargoids or a sub faction of the thargoids trying to start another War. regardless, FD is going to have to provide better story telling ingame other than some Galnet posts and NPC one liners. And the Alliance Warship... i wonder who owns it since the Alliance is just a bunch of factions not large enough to stand against the other two powers.
