Steam reviews

ObsidianAnt is not exactly what I'd call a "fanboy" - yes, he is one of the most prominent community contributors, but he kept healthy distance in all his video reviews. That's why he is one of just few people whose opinion I respect. All in all, I am not surprised at all to see that he is not very happy with current state of the game.

Hardly a fanboy and you are not understanding what a 'honeymoon' is. A Honeymoon would not be playing the game despite accepting inherent flaws. The 'honeymoon being over', would be to stop playing the game because of them.

Many players have issues with the game and the speed of development and response to raised issues. Yet despite that, continue to play the game.

The reason why these players still play the game is because the 'honeymoon' is extant for better or for worse. Hyperbole not withstanding.

Want to point out that ObsidianAnt has always been very critical of ED. He has pointed out things which has been broken and then have been louding FD efforts when those things got fixed. He has never been in honeymoon period with ED. For that reason, he is well respected from both devs and community.

The thing you have to remember is that the person who posted that is just a flamer (and a very abusive one at that) and so I wouldn't expect them to do any research.

funny people bash steam for negative stuff when this forum is THE WORST for troll fan boys, who will group attack anyone who post issues with the game. these forums are by far the most mean spirted I have ever come across just look at all the hate when real players post their concerns.

Hyperbole much? These forums are no different from any other game forums.

Yes, as I said before, players are hungry for their space fix. So they sit down and manfully consume the plate of heaped Brussel Sprouts and watery gravy, all the while reminiscing on what could have been had the plate contained Fillet Mignon and Fries........

So we gainfully chew and swallow said sprouts until the restaurant down the street opens, serving that Steak and Fries we're salivating over. If we don't continue to consume our FD sprouts we'll starve.

I'd rather sprout away that die of starvation.

I feel like the steam reviews of horizon are misleading. As it stand the positive user reviews are at 72%, yet if you look at all the reviews on the game front page, they're all negative.these review are from what I can see people who
a. Want something for free
b. People moaning about content. (Personally I understand this. Elite is full of stuff to do. You just have to go looking for it. Have goals for the play session. Anyway I'm getting side tracked)
c. Having to wait for content.
One of the front page reviews is from a guy who has play 0.9hrs.
Firstly I don't understand the hate elite is getting and secondly steam needs to show positives as well a negative. As it stands someone thinking about buying might be put off.

You should be talking to steam's system, no?

Criticism against the game itself gets you banned on many game forums, e.g. anything run by Jeff Butler, Troy Hewitt and Kevin Maginn. :)

Here, you can say just about anything about the game.

Well... I actually like sprouts... :D

it's raining negative reviews on steam.
it's useless to deny that.

this is a very bad sign, folks.

It would be, if Steam 'reviews' were actually remotely indicative of anything. They aren't. They are almost entirely written by semi-literate adolescents with no concept of what a useful review should contain, and who confuse not personally liking a game with an objective appraisal (if they have even played it - some so called 'reviews' appear to be based on nothing but what other people have said...). This is of course par for the course with the mindset of many adolescents, who see personal choice as a black-and-white issue, and who have little ability to appreciate that other people's preferences can differ from their own without it being proof of a personal failure on one or the other. The whole Steam 'review' system is slanted in such a manner as to ensure that any game that attracts significant attention falls victim to 'reviews' from kids who are incapable of measuring it against anything but the instant-gratification FPS clones that dominate Steam sales. The actual market for Elite is a much broader demographic, and one which is entirely capable of recognising just how meaningless the average Steam 'review' is.

People who like games spend their time playing them.

why people like you continue stubbornly to deny the evidences ?
most of the reviews that you declare as ''not remotely indicative of anything'' are full of precise and detailed motivations instead.
Either I suspect that you didn't read them, at all
There are dozen of negative reviews that explain what is wrong with the game, what they expected and in what they've been disappointed

I really hope the FD read those reviews and try to get back to the correct 'road map' for the development for this game.

I have to admit, my Steam review wasn't exactly positive. I advise that people buy the base game for £10 and wait until Horizons goes on sale for like £15 later in the year, that's still only £25 in total and a saving on the full price of Horizons.

The 1.5 patch was a much better addition to the game than Horizons has been so far, and everyone got the 1.5 patch for free.

Horizons content is lacking in a big way an is not worth £39.99, or £29.99.

Maybe by Xmas 2016 it will be, but it certainly isn't now.

I get much more enjoyment from the base game, I've barely even bothered with the Horizons content. Empty space ports, barren planets and poor ground missions isn't my cup of tea I'm afraid.

"Correct"?! There is no correct. They have their development plan, and they are sticking to it. Just because you and other don't like it, doesn't mean that there isn't a significant number of happy customers out there. As has been pointed out time and again, people are motivated to write negative reviews, but much less motivated for positive. If all of us who were enjoying E: D wrote a positive review (no, I never have) then you'd see a whole different picture. More like the one FD see when they look at their sales figures...

Thanks for this, you made me lol.

Steam is the biggest digital game distribution service on the PC platform. Horizons sales might be low on there right now, but as more and more people try it, more and more reviews will appear about the game on Steam.... Eventually the majority of the Horizons player base will be via steam ownership, so evidently, steam reviews can, will and do count towards the games reputation.

Some players like instant action and a story, ED isn't that, but FD advertising make it look like an action packed game with a story. If they want sim players only and no action seekers they need to dial down the overhyped advertising CGI videos they insist on releasing for the game, that makes it look completely different to how it actually plays.

They need to target a player base that likes to play this type of game, CQC is another way of trying to pull in people that would probably otherwise not even touch ED.

You accuse people of stubbornly denying the evidence, despite the fact that (even on Steam, a notoriously toxic forum), over 70% of the reviews are positive? You sure you're not just cherry-picking your info to backup your viewpoint?
