Getting fines for killing wanted....? o.O

So, I'm playing around in my Anaconda, and I see a wanted NPC. So, I go ahead and attack said NPC, only to receive a fine for doing so. So, then, All of the authority ships then turn on me, after I destroy said wanted ship. (Yes, I am rewarded a bounty for killing the wanted NPC). The thing is, I get a fine, and I am wanted, by the same faction, as the NPC I just killed, and got rewarded for. Yet, the other ships I killed up to that point, were also by that same faction.....

How do I get a fine, and become wanted, for killing pirates? Especially after I've killed like 4 or so of the same faction beforehand?

Does this make any sense?

To add to what Jypson said,

Make sure that you are fully scanning it when you drop to normal space. I've seen a lot of occasions where I will see something flagged as "wanted" in supercruise after i do a full scan on it. I can then go and interdict it to knock it into normal space and not get a fine/penalty. But after a full scan in normal space it will then be flagged as "clean" for whatever reason. I dont know if thats a bug or WAI but it doesnt really bother me too much so i dont care either way. I've never been quick on the trigger in normal space and i always wait for it to scan fully anyways so i've never had any problems except for when it changes from wanted to clean like how i mentioned.

Yes. I always wait until the wanted is displayed. XD I learned that lesson long time ago. *nod* But yea. I saw wanted, started my turrets up, I hit it a couple of time, then suddenly, I get a fine for assault, and I'm wanted. Then, the authority ships start firing at me.

I complained (and made a ticket) about this too.
Seemingly, I waited a second after scan was compleet, but this seemed not enough.
Issue stopped being an issue if I waited for 3 seconds after scan before engaging.
It looks like there's a sync issue in that regard to some of us?

If the ship is clean in the current system it is a crime to attack it, this is why anarchy systems are safer for bounty hunting.

What's your turrets set at? Are you sure they didn't clip another ship by accident?

My Turrets are set at Target Only, and not Fire At Will. I am sure they didn't clip another ship. It said "Received 2,301 Fine for assault on (wantedship)"

The ship was wanted. I saw the wanted, before I started firing.

We get someone complaining about this just about every day, but it's your fault - nothing to raise a ticket for. Somebody got on the way of your turrets. You should only use turrets in a situation where no innocent people can come near. Don't use them for bounty hunting. Instead, use them on a trading ship against interdictions.

If you have a nvidia graphics card, you can get Shadowplay to record what happens.

Yes, I'm sure. The name above "Wanted" was the same name as "Recieved 2301cr fine for assault on (samename)".

D8veh no one got in the way, as it was the same name as the wanted ship......

I have seen the same thing happening with wanted skimmers, basically you have to wait a few seconds, but it does seem to be a sync issue. I don't think wanted skimmers have commit ed crimes in other systems...

The annoying bit in MY! case: I get a 400Cr fine/10 minute wanted for attaicking the target, and then I get his bounty for killing him...
Saying: you CANNOT attack someone, BUT it's MORE THAN OK to KILL him.... XD

When i went to my HazRES: not one interdiction.
Heading back, 4!!! interdiction, of which one fairly insane.
I was interdicted by a Cobra, trottled to 0, took care of the Master culprit, engaged SC... I did not even spawn in SC, as i get an interdiction!!!
This time a Dropship...

Tin foil theory?
The game is made so when you become "valuable", you get to be intercepted for kill.
So you get a hard time earning your money.

And YEAH!!!!!! I got me a Kill 75 Pirates mission...
The FIRST in almost 2 weeks, hotdang!

If you are sure u waited for the ship scan to complete then you must have hit a security ship crossing the flight path. That happened to me a few times recently.

That's very interesting. That's what happened to me too one time; however, yesterday, my guns went off accidentally when i was scanning a ship that was shooting at the feds, so i got the 200 cr bounty and became wanted, whereuponI decided to make a quick exit. Just before my frame-shift drive engaged, I heard a boom, and up came the 6200 bounty, which meant I couldn't go back for 6 days - really inconvenient. That's happened to me at least three times now.

It therefore seems that if you do shoot a wanted guy before the scan shows him as wanted, it's best to finish him off before running. That's if it's important for you to stay in that system.
