How to buy Star Citizen.? Anyone got it.?

Ive seen a few YouTube videos of star citizen so i thought id give it a look ..
The 'Buy' page is so confusing to what u get, so it puts me off buying it ..
i just want to play the game .. if i buy the starter package, am i in the alpha/beta.?
What is the 3 months insureance.? it isnt a pay monthly game is it.?
Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Watch some videos instead and save your money for when they actually release a game. It's purposely confusing and designed to separate you from as much money as possible.

Yes, a starter package will get you access to the alpha, it's available to everybody now if I remember correctly.
The insurance is for when the game goes live and is 3 months free starting insurance. Once it runs out you will have to renew it with in-game currency that you can earn (or buy from the cash shop).

Thankss for replying..

@milligna Id worked that out, hence why i wanted advice and links as to what to buy or not to buy.. best deals ... ect ...

@Zetta So the insurance is a bit like the ED insurance.? just dont get the 3 months bit .. why not just have it like ED .. if uve got money, then u can buy it back ect ...

I'm guessing it's just a bit of a gold sink, ie I assume you'll be able to choose insurance to cover 3mths, 6mths or even a year and it's paid prior to take off. So even if you don't get blown up you've paid it unlike Elite where insurance is paid on death.

@Zetta .. Thanks for the help .. Just one more thing, which maybe a stupid question ..
Im halfway through signing up, and picking a package, all the packages allow me to play today dont they.?
in the Alpha/Beta .?
not, just when the game is released.?

Yes, as long as it's a "game package" they'll let you play today ie https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...pe=skus&storefront=pledge&type=game-packages&

They also include the single player campaign Squadron 42.

If you want you could use my referral code STAR-T7KL-SKGW
It gets you another free 5,000 UEC (worth $5) and I get a couple of hangar items in return.

Personally I'd wait a bit, there's very little actual game there yet, and there won't be for some time.

Thats what confused me a little, theres a few packages around the £35 mark, but then theres the Squadron 42 Preorder for the same price..??
But, thanks for the referral code! :)

I think that SQ42 pre-order package is a placeholder (as much as anything) for an upcoming change later this year where SQ42 and SC MMO will be sold separately.

That's just speculation, until the insurance system is trialed in the mini PU or the dev's announce something we have no firm information on how it will work.

My advice to anyone buying Star Citizen (or any of the ships or credits etc..) is just to make sure you pay using a credit card, not use Paypal or whatever. CC only for the ability to chargeback.

Not that I'm saying that will be required but my understanding is there *are* people asking for refunds right now for various reasons which CIG are refusing. If they'd paid by CC though it likely would have been different.

It's literally just a consumer protection thing, with anything where there's risk, pay by CC. Just sayin'.

I know, that's why I said I'm guessing.

The OP's after buying advice, and is concerned about the confusing layout of the store. Speculation and guesses don't make for informed well researched purchases.

Now that's fact based. An even safer approach is buy based on hard information coupled with a solid release, when these become available in the future.

Someone not buy you what you want for Christmas or something?
He was asking out of curiousity, it wasn't a purchase defining decision.

Besides as it's the only information we currently have and it comes from CIG it's actually a logical conclusion. They sell ships with 3, 6, 12 and 24 month insurance so why would one not think that might be what they're aiming for in the game. Seems a silly thing to get hung up over.

There's nothing logical about guesswork, wishful thinking and fantasy.

Whatever the length of the insurance advertised with a package means nothing until we can compare that with how much time that ship and insurance cover level take to earn in game. You might be getting a bargain, or paying way over the odds for something gained by half an hours bounty hunting, at this point nobody knows.

If the makers of the game are offering products with A,B and C then it is perfectly reasonable to think they might be using that method in game. I would have thought that selling something with one feature and then doing something totally different would be tantamount to false advertising.

I don't know why you are so hung up over such a minor, irrelevant detail but I've got no desire to contiunue a discussion over what is such an exceedingly tiresome point. Take it up with CIG if it's such a problem for you.
Good day.

Being in the game is one thing, but there are other questions to ask.

Whats product A, B or C worth ?
What in-game purpose do they serve ?
Can I earn them in game ?
How long do they take to earn in game ?
Are they subject to change before release ?
Do they function ?
Will they be superseded by other offer's prior to release ?
Can I try them in a free demo ?
Is this pay to win ?

I personally wouldn't buy into this right now knowing what I know of what's available at this moment. I'd really wait until something much more solid comes through the pipeline.
