Canon's strangely nerfed since 1.4 (1.5 & 2.0)

Hello,

Happy New Year to all commanders - I need your help !

In the past I loved to use canons as a finisher weapon against mid and big ships. Sinse the release 1.4 (and 1.5 & 2.0) they shoot different. Cant exactly say what it is, lower projectile speed of the large or huge canons or other implications. Result is that the canons now hit very, very poor compared than before. Currently I do not now many commanders who are using canons - most are using multi-canons as pure kinetic weapons.

Had a discussion with other commanders about this and they either don't know what Frontier changed, just that it feels strangly different than before.

Does somebody has similar experience with the canons or is thinking that everything is the same as always?

Thanks for your option on this.

Regards, Oogie Boogie

The impact effects have changed but I've no idea if anything else has been altered. Having said that, I have fought a few NPC's armed with cannons and the projectile speed did seem slower than usual. I had a Vulture shooting at me with a C3 cannon and he nearly always missed: I was 400m from him and flying an Anaconda!!!
Cannons are pretty useless atm

thye mite have nerfed the damage also i use f2 multis for pve bounty hunting and ive noticed it takes alot longer to shoot down an enemy ship than it did before also yes i have noted different types and ranks of ncps :p

What's the story w/ Frag Cannons now? They got an ammo buff or something?
Yeah. I tried them out on my Clipper and VJ had a video of a Frag-de-Lance. I quite like them, although make sure you're very close to your target. The ammo is still not spectacular (WAY better though), but it does seem like the perfect weapon for PvP. I use it for PvE, works great if you don't find rearming or material scavenging.

Interesting, not sure how I missed that update. Time to hit up Jameson Memorial w/ the fleet for testing!

They made changes how armor and HRP effect/reduce damage with 1.5/2.0. So Now those are better than before and you can reduce a lot module/hull damage.

They are pretty useless against hull now, but I am still having no trouble taking out power plants in under 20 seconds with Pulse/Burst Laser Combos & 2x C2 Gimballed Cannons (FAS, Clipper, Python)

Yep, the HRP might make the hull tough, but does no observable difference to taking out modules with the usual weapons.

This is correct -we did some testing with Kornelius about the HRP and the moduls. Result was that the additional HRP will protect the moduls, but only a little noticable more (+10%).
But moduls at the end are the most weak point. As example - a huge canon will make 2-3% damage on the hull of a full equiped fighting Cutter, but >40% damage if it hits any kind of module on the same ship!

Agree. Does very little hull damage, but if that's a result of the Hull/HRP updates, so be it. I'll adjust.

What really gets me though, is they changed the sound of it. Turned it way down, I can't even hear if it's firing/hitting the target anymore. Usually I could operate my Vulture's canon just on the sound. Now, I can hardly tell if it's working.

They changed the sound definetly. Especially for the large and huge canon. Before it sounded much more powerfull - for the shooter and the ship who get hitted!
