Idea about solo and pvp etc.

EDIT..
added this a few posts down, so il put it here in case people read this and skip to a reply:

-------------

as there is this "leave solo alone, contingency"

How about a mode that does what i suggested but is called something else..
Like "open pvp-off"
Again same rules apply if you attack a human then you are stuck with "open pvp-on" for 2 weeks.
but Now you can still have solo mode?

------------

Original post:

Ok.. how about..
Solo mode throws you in to open mode but you cannot be attacked by a human player.

If you attack a human player "accident or deliberate" you are now stuck unable to turn of pvp feature for 2 weeks.
Solo mode always throws you in to open mode. and the only difference is PVP on/off..

this would mean all the people who like to pew pew humans get to pew pew humans.
all the solo players can play in open so there are larger numbers online. and every one is happy..
Sure enough some newbs will get shot at by a human, then retaliate and be pvp enabled for 2 weeks. But hey ho.. ce la vie.

and perhaps have a 5min grace period after a human kills you when you cannot be attacked by a human again..

(there would need to be some sort of prompt letting people know that this person cannot be attacked or interdicted, perhaps making them flash or something?)

just a thought. that should get more people in to the online part of the game so that it is not so empty.

So if I accidently shoot someone I am stuck in a mode I don't like for two weeks? I wold slick the game from my harddrive and never look back.

I think you misunderstand how Solo mode operates. Solo is not 'off-line'.

All the play modes share the same servers and even the same instances. The only difference is that with Solo (and private groups) all the other human players are hidden from you as if they weren't there at all.

Indeed. Space is erm...big. The further out from the bubble you go the less likely you will find a human player. In fact once when I was about 4,500ly out I came across another commander and it was such an event (in all the Gin joints in all the galaxy) that we stopped nose to nose and had a good long chat and laugh. At that range out the odds of coming across another human are staggering enough far less further out!

The point of Solo is that there are no other players - just one player against Frontier's game design - while, at the same time, affecting and experiencing the same shared galaxy state that all players do.

Whatever makes you conclude that "every one is happy" in a situation where players who want to play in Solo cannot?

All three game modes are online. The galaxy is enormous - those who realised this at the publication of the game design (over three years ago) had a head start with respect to comprehending quite how empty the game could seem.

So how will this affect smuggling?

Just don't shoot some one you shouldn't its not like there would be 400 people all in the same place.

as for not understanding solo mode.. i know full well how it works. But the fact that you wil not see any human players become friends create wings etc because you are in a seperate instance to every one makes it rather dull..
If you were able to interact with others but remove the threat of grievers for as long as you dont attack any one else, then you would be able to socially interact with others.
Currently there is a 3 way divide in the player base, and stating that space is big so you wont see many people is rather redundant..

most people are doing the same things at the same places, robigo runs. trying to get out to the furthest reaches. rare trade routes, Community goals and so on.
If every one who played were in open then chances of encounters would increase, this would make the game more enjoyable as you and your new found commander friend decide to team up to try something new that you perhaps wouldnt try as a lone pilot. or even simply could not do as a lone pilot in a sidewinder but 3-4 of you in a sidewinder can manage.

Please read this thread.

Not wanting to be shot at is not the only reason people play Solo.

Dull for whom? If you don't want to play in Solo then it is up to you to choose to play in one of the multi-player modes.

Not every player wishes to interact with others.

The three way split in the player-base has been a core part of the game design from the outset.

How do you know what would make the game more enjoyable for players who choose to play in modes other than Open?

not entirely sure how having an extra option.
"open pvp-off"
whilst keeping solo mode "as outlined in my previous post"
does not render the above argument invalid?

it would also allow the people who do want to interact with others, but do not want to participate in pvp to do so.

Edit.

Although i now realise the post was quoted as i was editing. as it was to become a 3part post.

Edit 2

here is the part that i mean.

Simple solution: Log into open and have a chat with 'no-mates'. Get bored and log out and into solo; leave station and fly safe.

You mean like Mobius group ?

PvE only 16500 members (last time I looked).

This is suggesting a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. If you want to play with other players but don't want to pvp then there are private groups, most notably Mobius.

Just don't shoot some one you shouldn't its not like there would be 400 people all in the same place.

I have been blown away by 6 NPC security because some dumb-has-a-2x4 NPC decided to fly in front of me while I was killing a wanted NPC. You are telling me some player wont do this by accident (or even on purpose?). I know how to grief people, I know how it works. I played EVE on and off for 6 years and I know how people feel when you force them to play a game "your way".

I will repeat - I will slick this game from my harddrive if your idea becomes reality in this game.

the fact that mobius exists is proof enough that it is a problem,
And it shows that 16500 people would have benifited from having a "open pvp off" option.

without mentioning how many play in solo because they dont know of mobius.

An Open-PvE mode with auto-kick on attacking / destroying other players is not a new proposal. It has been proposed by players and discussed in a number of extremely long threads (the latest of which is here).

The core design of the three game modes, mode mobility and the single shared galaxy state have existed since the Kickstarter for the game was announced, through development to release of 1.0 in December 2014. Solo is not about to be removed from the game....

seem to be the same point. so i am addressing bot at the same time..

After people voiced their issues i amended my idea.
i suggested a seperate mode called "open pvp-off"
This mode would follow the outlined rules that i initially stated, but this time solo mode would remain for those that only want a single player game.

in this instance if you did chose to go to "open pvp-of" then accidentally enable pvp. You would still be able to go to solo mode to wait out your 2 weeks, which would be exactly the same as it is now but you get to go to open without pvp..

Also as for: "this was stated as game design from xxxx"
it was also stated that it would be 100% offline single player.
Statements of construct change, Not always for the better.
But i fail to see how having 1 additional mode that would allow more people to interact could be construed to be worse.

and i don't think auto kick is anything that would need to happen. the game mode would be open, only some people would enter open with pvp off. if they suddenly decided they wanted to kill a human, then they instantly lose the pvp off option, they are still in open, only now they dont have pvp off.

Any way its just an idea.

And as i said the fact that there are groups with over a thousand people in them looking to interact with others without the fear of pvp does seem to imply it should be an option.

You are still forcing people to play a game a way they do not want to. Right now we have three ways to play:

Open - has elements of PvP/PvE with others (if you can find them)
Solo - play with yourself and the other friendly NPCs (PvE only)
With Friends - you and like minded people (only let your friends shot you, I call that love)

I would not mind there being an Open-PvE mode. But I can live with it if there isn't one. But FD is not forcing people to play a certain way. There are three choices. If none appeal to someone contemplating buying the game then they should not buy it.

please elaborate how having an extra optional mode is forcing some one to play differently?
