Question about combat logging. Would love some feedback.

It is a GAME, what you do is up to YOU.
I do not care what you do!!
If I want to PK(player kill) that is up to me, you do what you do:))
Who cares:)................................It's a game:)
Rules are for real life.
BB

that would be a great attitude...but FD withholds the rite to refuse service in cases like that...so if PKing got you banned from the game what then??...as it is that isn't defined as "breaking the rules" set forth by FD...the other is however....and not to disagree with the folks about its your game play the way you want...which has merit...it does not give them entitlement that is solely withheld by FD...read the legal fine print.

The fact its a game has really nothing to do with it...if you gave illegal copies of it away...its still piracy and still can be prosecuted for...though its just a game.

What would you do if all of a sudden you couldn't play because someone in FD decided to pull your rug and say...your a bad sport...you PK people for no good cause...we don't like it...you are banned??? not that this would be the case...it hypothetical... you could
1. rale at the system...
2. gripe about the injustice of it all...refer to one.
3. write all sorts of nasty grams to FD
4. tell the world about it...which probably wouldn't care as it is a game...
5. give bad press?? maybe but then being a larger entity they would probably be able to deal with a smear campaign very efficiently.

the truth is regardless of whether its a game has no bearing when said owners of the actual gaming area can pull your chain...they can give and take as they see reasonable.

the opinions of all the posters mine included are not anything but an opinion...it just happens to be based on factual rules that we as a gaming community have to follow...so whether its real life or virtual...there is a real life company that can enforce their will within the virtual realm. That's the facts...have people been banned from the game and forums?...I would hate to find out the hard way...I do believe that it is highly possible though...I can not say this as a fact as I don't know of anyone personally.

As to the PK'ing...well I'll make sure I run...or fight...its all the same to me...I have fun regardless...sometimes your the hunted...sometimes the hunter...the trick is knowing when and which you are :)

Fly safe...if ya can't then damn well fly profitable:)

How on earth do you make 30mil in 1 smuggling run?????

Yes please do tell...that would just be grand...:)

How on earth do you make 13mil in 1 smuggling run?????

Edit - 13 mill in a DBS in one smuggling run, gotta call on that one .. not trying to be offensive here but really?

28 tons of cargo.

That's conservatively about 5 smuggling missions stacked at 5 million a pop, giving you 25 million or more so yes, 13 million is more than reasonable if you picked your missions correctly.

I re-read and saw 13 mill .. but still!

Thirteen in a conda...doable...sluet is good at trade so, I won't doubt...hes good with the routes...don't always agree with him lol...but he knows the inarts of the game.

he should really hold a class with examples...you know like when we were kids and we got to blow up the labs ourselves rather than just watching....I know I wouldn't gripe about a 13 mil trip...nope not one bit..:) I would plus 1 it too but I can't give him another.

Fair play ... but the rank for these missions must be really high ... probably Elite to get 5 mil per mission .. so it isn't a great example of credit making as you have to be Elite to do it.

Edit - and the phrase was 13 mil for ONE smuggling mission

Sure, no problem. Believe it or not, I dont even use all slots for cargo. This is my smuggler ship: http://coriolis.io/outfit/diamondba...30302022t2f.Iw1-kA==.IwBhrSukg===?bn=smuggler

With no shield and only kinetics, I can power it with a measly 2A pp. This thing runs COLD, in that it freezes when you land on a planet. :) Its also super fast, a very small target, agile, great at interdictions and inconspicous to NPC cops. In other words, an awesome ship. It has 16t cargo, which is enough for those 'transport 3-5 slaves for 4-6 million' deals. Being allied to both factions at Robigo, and having a trade rank of Tycoon helps getting the missions faster. Just ignore the 1mil missions, only go for the high-paying missions. Sure, you cant stack 15 missions like a Python can, but on the bright side with only three or four missions interdictions are rather rare, a run doesn't take a lot of time and if you get scanned you dont instantly fail a million missions, wasting the billion hours it took to stack them. I dont mission-log, so it can take up to an hour or so to get the three missions (yeah yeah, I know :p), and it takes about 45 min one-way (I take it easy). That means about 10-15 million in 2.5 hours. Its not insanely profitable, but its loads of fun (flying a shieldless DBS without armor is fun when you get interdicted by pirates!).

*I said one smuggling run, not mission. :) Higher ranks help with the speed of getting these missions. For some weird reason ranks dont have hard caps: so once in a blue moon even a penniless trader at neutral rank can get a 5 million mission. The lower your rank, the better it is to take the less-paying ones rather than just sit and wait. I don't really trade or mine a lot, I got to this rank using the smuggling missions. As rank increase is based on profit these missions boost your rank absurdly fast. At lower ranks you can literally gain a whole rank in one run.

Anyway, in the end the details hardly matter: whether it takes you 3 hours or 6 to get your conda insurance, in the end there is really no reason not to fly without it. :D

At Elite I'm getting close to 6 mil per mission. Tycoon gets you missions of about 4.5 million per mission. I'm sure lower ranks will get you at least 3 million per mission.

Aye, agreed: Have never seen than value on a single mission. I'm sure the poster was referring to one smuggling run. Either that or the value pre-FDknobblynerfbat.

Combat Logging is cheap, and a cheat, but why all the pontificating? You get no reward from the pop, and chasing someone into SC, or CL'ing should be counted as a win. People put too much investment in popping someone's ship. I don;t get it.

Glad the FDknobblynerfbat came in to be honest ... credits were too easy to come by .. I have restarted my save recently and I am finding that it is hard to even make money for a ADS ... (Don't play constantly) and I am liking the progression ... I still think credits are easy to make (if I played for a few hours at a time i'd be rich)

To me the reason the '84 elite lasted so long was that it was hard .. it took months of constant play (and a lot of trading) to even get one military laser.

I noticed that when I reset in beta (and used 'real' prices using p&p :p), too. In 1.0 things were pretty brutal in hindsight, with a few thousand credits bounty on elite condas, yet it was also too easy and the smuggling craze was just off. New players now have a challenge but also a meaningful income. Its why I dont care much about 'slow rank progression': I am not an elite combat pilot, so why should I have an elite rank? Ranks should reflect your skills, and by rushing/grinding you just get a fake label that offers no real benefits whatsoever.

I'm not sure what the top-end of smuggling missions is. I know Driver777 is one of those madmen who smuggle in a T9 or whatever, if you want to be stunned by really insane profits invite him to this topic through a PM. :D

I think too that penalities in ED are to harsch. It's very unfortunate (though it was communicated I know) that a player cannot play truly "solo" if he would like to. I would like to have ability to pause and exit the game whenever I want, furthermore I would like to avoid loosing months of progress in the game - and here I don't really care how exactly the mechanic works.

I will not really play open, as I don't really see a benefit of fighting other (potentially better) players. Maybe if I re-equip and take a smaller combat ship which I could afford out of the pocket, I would try to do some trader escorts or wing up with some ppl maybe...

The game is still great though :)

And if the OP wants to cheat do whatever he wants to avoid his losses, I dont care. I also don't care if he modifies the BGS or smth else there. I do not really see some kind of leaderboard or competition going on... So, yeah, I don't care :) If involved in open-play direct combat with other players, some kind of "logout" countdown is acceptable.

I don't see why the op is seeking some kind if absolution for solo play logging. Is your choice and you need to decide the answer. To me it is like playing a strategy game and using money cheats or whatever, takes away from the adventure. It is just a game you decide.

Man, I did so wrong to enquire about the whole thing based on one disconnect. I feel like scum of the earth almost and all because it occurred to me that people do this online and part of me sympathised as to why - the concept of starting all over again.

For those who boast a single run can cover the costs, well, not all of us have gotten that far in the game yet. I cannot receive these missions or at least have never seen them. I can make decent money if I spend hours mining or take the risk in conflict zone or hazardous res sight. But even then it's a slow grind considering my insurance costs if I want to fly a bigger ship like the Python. Anyway it is what it is. Back to enjoying the game. All the best for 2016.

Maybe I'd not have been interdicted and almost killed by the NPC that caused me to disconnect if the game didn't constantly think I had cargo when I don't!

Wulp unless he's a hacker...he wont have access to BGS...that's something that FD gets to tweak...again folks remember that even though you are playing solo...your actions affect the groups and open play to....it would be different if you played a "single" player game...such as fallout 4 or skyrim or a number of other titles...the exploits used does not effect anything other than your game...as it stands ED is a game that is connected across all three area's...solo blinds you to other players and them to you...but if your buddy is in solo play and you are in open...you can still txt chat each other up...the game and its verse is still connected...solo is not single player...you just wont get shot at by players is all...but you still count in open.....everyone doing CG's...whether in open, group or solo...its all additive.

What the OP does or doesn't do doesn't affect your personal life its true...in the grand scheme of things does it matter ....probably not...do any of us really care that he does or doesn't do it...probably not one wit...I won't loose any sleep over it...but the OP did However ask for feedback directly based on his post...so with that everyone has given opinion one way or the other or indifferent...as to validity of the opinions...well...some of the opinions are based on some hard facts and information that FD put out there as far as cause and effect...if you do this...this can and will happen...therefore...giving that information can help the OP make good decisions based on that info...

If one doesn't care about getting banned...one has no fear of repercussion...no worries...delete uninstall...person walks off into the sunset...end of story...if it does matter to them...well being better informed of the consequences can help someone on their path of enlighted gaming :)

OP said he did it ...why he did it....he observed himself that by definition it was logging...Others by definition agreed...some more strongly than others...but in reading all the post...most don't really seem to worried...and doubt it would cause sleepless nights....lets face it...the OP was honest...most who do this to avoid whatever bad thing is going to happen to them...don't post about it...with good cause...they become pariahs...may even be very active people...same might be said about PK'ers but in honesty...they are just a part of the game to avoid or use for target practice depending on ones proclivities...and goodness look at the time...I shall go waste more opinions elsewhere lol

seriously...true...your game play your way...just remember sometimes your way may have unpleasant outcomes.

Some of the best advice is just that...play your way...if you are an adult...assuming that most are...you take your lumps and bumps however you choose too...same as the rest.

Just a note to leave on...I'm not gonna buck the folks that can take my gaming privileges from me...I might own the game...I don't own everything needed to play said game if I decide to :):):):) on FD rules...better to play safe than sorry.

See ya'll in the Black

You cannot lose months of progress unless you're stupid. The problem is that too many players get ahead of themselves by putting all their money into bigger and more expensive ships and equipment before they can afford it. As I said before, you should always keep ample reserves in the bank, so that no griefers or accidents will cause you any real hardship. The insurance on a top spec FDL is only 6 million, which you can earn in an hour at any HI RES, so, after a couple of hundred hours play, you lose 0.5% - big deal!

Penalties need to be harsh, and it needs to be hard to earn credits. We don't want every Xbox player in their bedroom waiting outside Eravate in an Anaconda.

Some people do get ahead of themselves, but with this fundamentally being a game, players wanna role play and enjoy the game solo mode. I've done a lot of grinding and even I'm miles off from a prestigious "Corvette". Some people deserve to get there even as a casual player in solo mode without losing everything. Simple solution would have been for Open Play to have a separate save file. Iron Mode that by all means.

Combat Logging is cheap, and a cheat, but why all the pontificating? You get no reward from the pop, and chasing someone into SC, or CL'ing should be counted as a win. People put too much investment in popping someone's ship. I don;t get it.

It's not about the pop, it's about what the pop means. If you're a bounty hunter, you aren't fighting a wanted man for the joy of a friendly duel. There is no gain for making a commander combat log. The same holds true for Combat Zones and, if more rarely, player blockades.

Piracy is more abstract, but still the same. A pirate is someone who takes by force, and in this case, the force being used is a threat of death. For the pirate, the kill itself doesn't actually net any direct reward; it carries the future investment of the target "learning from past mistakes", so to speak, and perhaps submitting in a future meeting. If the target can just poof, there is no thread of death, or really any reason to submit to a pirate.

While it's still an exploit either way, combat logging in Solo (or even Mobius) is much more harmless. It's an unfair advantage, but it doesn't directly affect anyone else.

I think people are being a bit self righteous here with the OP. IMO if you combat log in solo you are just cheating yourself...no one else. I really don't have a problem with it. Now if we were in a combat zone and I was just about to deal the final death blow and you CL'ed, that's a totally different story. I mean the truth is, if you hadn't come on and started a thread about it no one ever would have known. Anyway, have a great new year OP....and do whatever the hell you like in solo. Cheers :)

So, the main question. Should I feel ashamed to do this when this unforgiving game would have seen me start out with a Sidewinder and grind days on end just to get back to where I was? I appreciate the risk and gravity of loss, but I cannot help but wonder what it must be like for players in Open Play who are set upon by wings of bullies. Every game has them after all. But why should someone have to start all over again when there are so many things to contend with, such as bad luck, lag, griefers, or legitimate loss of connection which this game suffers from frequently even in solo mode.

I have over 500 hours in Open. Your idea there are "wings of bullies" is a misconception and a myth. Rarely will you ever encounter them and even when you do it is easy to get away. Open is not a scary place at all.

Yes, you should be ashamed with yourself from combat logging on an AI. If you can't pay the insurance bill then don't use the ship. This is why you keep other ships around instead of selling them and putting all your money into one.
