One handed and splashing the cash...

Wel happy new year and all that shizzle, CMDRS I need your feedback.

My 8 month old Co-Pilot broke my relic of a joystick (Cyborg Force 3D), but at least on the flipside she has become one of, if not the youngest Anaconda pilots in the galaxy.

In my quest to find a suitable joystick replacement I have been looking at the X52 Pro or the X55 - but the kicker is I only have a left hand and a stump (Hence my in game name of HanD Solo). I am not worried about using my right stump on the throttle, I can rig something up for that but am worried my left hand will not fit the right handed X52 and X55 sticks - especially the X55 with the pinky button. Can someone who has these sticks let me know how they feel left handed - ergonimically wise?

I have seen te thrustmaster T1600m but want more buttons on the stick to eliminate the keyboard for when i cant use voice attack (Co-pilot bed time :p)

Thanks in advance!

Happy new year GB Paralympian! :)
I confirm the X52 is made for a right hand (and its ergonomic qualities are not that great), I guess it must be the same for the X55.

I checked the Thrustmaster T-16000M quickly, appart from the hand stand, it looks symetrical and the price and reviews look pretty good on amazon!

Hmm, I have a feeling the options for someone wanting to splurge in your position might be a bit limited.

The issue is the higher end sticks tend to emulate proper flight sticks and I think these are all right-handed affairs.

That Thrustmaster one though, it's a really good stick especially for the price but it's lacking a few buttons, ie secondary hat etc.. and I can't help feeling someone essentially limited to single handed use is gonna want as many buttons as possible right there on the stick. Hmmm.

The X55 is a big stick so it may suit you more. It also has a large paddle switch at the bottom which I would imagine would be easier for you to click with a prosthetic.

I wonder if there is anywhere you could test them first? Any ideas people?

Thread moved.

As a left-handed person, I use the T.16000M, albeit in conjunction with a keyboard and a pair of Thrustmaster MFD Cougar. The stick's action is smooth and very precise (Hall Effect sensors) with a twist axis (I use it for yaw). The throttle is very short throw (c.20mm stop to stop) but quite precise if care is taken.

There are four buttons plus the 8-way top-hat on the top of the stick grip - a little plasticky (esp. the triggers) but functional nonetheless. The stick if fully configurable for left or right handed use (and there's a switch on the base to select left or right - but I've never had cause to use that).

Hello OP,

I to am a lefty. I had to retrain my self to use the X52-Pro right handed, it did not feel comfortable to me left handed.

DOH,,, Suggest you re read the OP ;-)

We use X52 Pro. I think left handed would be a struggle but I think you can remove the "Rest" will check It later for you
That would make it a little easier for left hand use. o7

I fly with two sticks so I have been looking for left hand sticks too. Unfortunately options are limited. And I haven't found any left hand sticks with many buttons. I use the X-55 stick as my right hand stick and I can't imagine how to use it with my left. The thumb button will be right in the palm of your hand and the hat switches will be placed wrong too.

The options I've found for the left hand stick are the T.16000M. It comes with extra parts so you can very simply convert it to left hand use. And the CH Products flightstick, it's symetrical. The CH Flightstick lacks the twist yaw, good for use as a 2nd stick but I wouldn't use it as my only stick.

Hi!
As others have said X52 is very much right handed ergonomics.

Not sure if this is quite what you are after but before the X52 I had a normal joystick (Saitek Evo Pro Force) which was one of the best I've had. It is adjustable for both left and right hand control, has a good sized throttle that's not heavy but precise. The force feedback can also be disabled depending on taste.
Downside is that it only has 1 hat and 12 buttons.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be for sale anymore but there may be one somewhere on amazon or even a newer version.

There is a left-handed thread (somewhat older now) that has a few suggestions should it be useful: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=21697

Some have suggested simply having two controllers in at a time such as 777driver who explains here (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=71166) that he has an Attack 3 joystick and a X52 throttle mapped with the X52 joystick sitting idle (not plugged in). That'd be a tad expensive though.

I am left handed and use the T16000M. Most of the buttons on the base I use as shift-modifiers, i.e. btn3+trigger=chaff, etc. I rarely need the keyboard doing it that way

Thanks to everyone who has responded. Having checked all the local places over the wekeend it seems that the X52 / X55 are out of stock so i havent been able to physically test them. I am a little more inclined to pop to a shop and try the T16000M, given feedback on here on its' accuracy and shift modifying buttons. I think if they did a V2 of that stick with 2 POV switches with a longer throttle throw they coiuld be onto a winner.

@Alex - those Saitek sticks seemed to be designed around left or right hanbded use - my Cyborg was also designed as both
@CMDR Delmonte - please do see if that rest can be removed.

Thanks all
Graham
