UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

So with MB's recent "exceedingly rare" comment, my feeling is that if they're so rare, it's unlikely to require the mission as a prerequisite for them to spawn. Of course I may be totally wrong, it's just one of those gut feeling things.

...

I agree with all of this more or less. Although the POI spawn rate is likely lower than 0.25% or statistically I should have found it by now a few times over. I think it could just be incredibly low, but based on the assumption that with enough people looking at POI's it will eventually spawn for someone.
The only problem I have with this is that they made a mission to find it, I'd almost have preferred knowing nothing about the mission and finding that someone has stumbled across it one day.

If anyone finds any weird objects in your SRV (or gets close to weird scan even), please try to get a screenshot of the wave scanner, so we all know what to look for.

I don't have a meta-alloy missions, but was bumbling around in Ariel last night anyway. Managed to get myself stuck in one of those epic canyons. Almost made it out even, but the lack of control in those things is horrendous. :)

If Ariel does have meta-alloys, it raises some interesting new possibilities. Given that I am pretty sure the "barnacles" are UA's, I'd hypothesize that similar worlds in both UA shell systems and systems with glitchy stations probably all can have them.

Ok, I recorded a bit of its sound, raw footage here > https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/666005/ED/UA2.mp4

and I got

Code:
010
110
011
010
110
010
001
101
001
010
010

this is fracking up my life now xD

either you're doing it wrong, or that is new behavior. I'm at work so I can't listen to your file atm... dropbox is blocked.

have a look at this:

and this:

mind you, that example is from the previous behavior when UA's spelled out the system name instead of drawing your ship.

Which part of the audio are you trying to decode there. Way back when Jmanis provided a helpful morse alphabet. Again, these are the "chitters" between the loud howls. They're much fainter than the howls and you may have to adjust your levels a lot to make them out. I'm better when looking at the waveforms in audacity and comparing them to Jmanis' alphabet visually, but that's me. Some people are able to transcribe them by ear.

I'll tell you what those are: he's listening and analyzing just the purrs. Low and high ones. Three purrs for a free floater. Five when you deploy the UA.
That road was already WIDELY scored in every human known way in the early months of the mystery. Nothing.
That's not the morse, btw.

I really think there is some pattern in the station list that FD wants us to find. Maybe it has something to do with the number of shut down stations since it specifically mentions 7? Maybe... I just plotted the first letter of the station and system similar to how we plot the ship triangles... i.e. Korolyov in Arawere becomes point "KA"... nothing discernible tho. Tinfoil hat firmly in place.

can someone please check lobachevsky in pic tok again? it is still listed as suspended but it was clearly working last I checked a couple days ago.

indeed, Obsidian is missing... hmm...

Well there is a new Galnet article up: Services Suspended at Gabriel Enterprise

Hm, is there an answer to the difference why some are suspended while others have technical issues?
Suspended as in 'intentionally suspended to prevent problems, however they may resume it's services later'
while technical issues as in 'ahh fakk, we didn't suspend it in time, and the service will never recover to the same state'?

Additionally, they've deleted the post regarding Obsidian Orbital having technical difficulties. Are they doing a retconn?

Nooooo, please FD another station, fast! Or we'll start again to correlate the seven markings on the UA!!!!!

Try to keep an eye on the Tungsten. I think it's a important component in the metal cells in Meta-Alloys.

Tungsten, phosphorus and oxygen seem to be the best combination.

Tantalum could be an alternative to Tungsten. There aren't that many combinations that self assemble into metal 'cells'.

Thank you han_zen, that's actually a very good idea and would make sense. Perhaps high G worlds are the key here.

Considering he said the meta-alloys are exceedingly rare - that means they are exceedingly random. Since all POI's are randomly generated. It is probably a percentage generation and possibly with other factors such as star type / metal content. So its randomly generated. That means you'll need to pour through hundreds of poi's on different types of planets.

That is absurd. You'd think that whoever found these sorts of alloys in the first play would at least give some background information on where they've been found in the past!!

No exceedingly rare doesn't mean exceedingly random. Two different things.
The randomness has some rules, it' needs to be in certain places.

We need to figure out what these rules are, just as with the UA.
Wait until we find the first one's, then well be able to apply sound logic and common sense to it.

For those who are bemoaning the low chance of finding meta-alloys/barnacles please remember that people on here spent dozens of game hours looking for UA convoys with no luck at all. We've been through this before. Someone on this forum, or elsewhere, will find it eventually. It's just going to take a while. It's a big galaxy.

Anyone happen to notice that Sol is on that list? Specifically Li Qing Jao, orbiting Earth, if I recall. They've made it to Earth! Or have they always been...?

Anyway, I guess now I have to figure out how to put an AFM on my ship so I can carry a UA. The only practical way I can do it is to replace my detailed surface scanner. Heh - I may end up being the first person in history to use a UA in place of a surface scanner.

Perhaps the order in which the stations fail to be a clue to something. I am running to investigate the Harma's planets. What is causing the problems may still be there.

Not quite all - POIs can be hand crafted (perhaps "manually injected" is more accurate) and persistent. As was the case with the Horizons Beta treasure hunt.

Ok just spent 8 hours in the deep dark of Ariel and after all that time i did not see anything odd on the wake scanner, i tried in two of the cracks neither was on the dark side.
And after all that time all i can say is don't go there if you are on the Rift (Rizal72 my stomach hates you at the mo :D) unless you have lots of sick bags.

Hell i spent hundreds of hours looking for a UA and never found one, not till the shell was discovered.
