One thing I have proposed in the past is to keep true to the lore established when it comes to the Alliance and permits.
We already have Alioth, give permits to some important systems (Zaonce having the sole bank on the galaxy, 72 Ursae Majoris), some pretty ones (Seginus, Alkaid for example) and add Phekda to the mix. Let's say 14 systems chosen total to go alongside how many ranks the other 2 have.
Have the reputation on the factions that can give these permits be independent from the total Alliance reputation. Make it so that ships require a certain amount of these merits acquired. Like 7 for the medium-end ship like the Clipper and the FAS. Ships would be availabe to stations that are controlled by Alliance factions only and anarchies, just like the federal and imperial exclusives work.

Back on topic, it is a shame that the Argent shipyards haven't come up with any decent designs in this iteration of Elite - The Quest class ships could probably take on anything else without breaking a sweat.

It was player submitted and was locally published in Alioth.
Certain ships or equipment could only be sold by special shipyards, requiring permits to those systems. That fits the Alliance lore - you've got to be allied with them to get the permit, and then you can shop. Today, the main reason for getting the Alioth permit is the 20% discount on the Asp, already. Or maybe ships bought at a shipyard in a special system would have significantly lower insurance costs.
Of the major factions, only the Alliance tempts me to ally myself with (lore-wise). It'd be nice if there was some benefit in it somewhere beyond the comfort of doing the right thing.

So players can submit any old load of trash as "news"
It makes the news somewhat pointless.
It has to be approved by a specific FD employee first, who seems to be very strict with Alliance relates articles as well, so it was a surprise actually.
Maybe he does know something.
You better clean up the pirate faction in sol. You got a long way to destroy the Empire.
Even though not as bad, if the dictatorship that has entered Achenar takes over, you should be expecting some bad PR coming your way as well.
